Come on up over and down and across, sunday river resort is open for DH . here's tehoriginal post from busted spoke. we worked our butts off on sunday and there's much more to do.

"Lifts will be spinning 10am till 4 pm. Days of operation will be Friday thru Sunday, and we'll be open till Columbus Day. We'll be lap loading all bikes at this time. Not all the trails will be open yet but we're doing the best we can. A HUGE thanks goes out the the Slaphead MOFO leisure team for the tremendous effort they put in this weekend. I think everyone will love the fruits of their labor. Hope to see you all there."

Wait Wait Wait Wait, Looks like the closing with Boyne DID NOT happen yesterday as scheduled so we may need to bump the opening back a week and wait for them to sign the damn papers. On the bright side, we will have more time to buff every thing out. I apologize for the misinformation. Lifts will be spinning 10am till 4 pm. (when it finally happens)

I am excited and sketched out about this. What condition are the trails in? Is there a trail map? Which lift is running?

I can't wait to go, but I don't want to do the whole highland thing, with 4 trails and 2 wholey unsatisfying ones for full price...

I was up at the mountain today working on Moose Tack and other than the entrance being a little eroded and one spot where there is a fair bit of grass the trail is in great condition. I also saw that a few of the trails higher up on the mountain are being worked on and it looks as if there will be 5 or so trails in good condition. I imagine it will take a little time to get everything back in order, but lift tickets are only 25 bucks for now at least. I have been looking for a trail map from the days of old and not been able to find it...

Have you ever been to Sunday River before? The trails there were pure downhill and an absolute blast, nothing like Highland.

I'm really excited about this and will have to make it up there a few times this year, but this weekend I'll be at Jiminy.

there were quite a few trails up there, definitely more than 4. i can count about 8 in my head right now, probably more though. it was like inclag said, pure downhill. no bridges, no drops to flat, fast stuff, flowy stuff, steep stuff with berms. all natural terrain. the best was riding it in the fog not being able to see 5 feet in front of ya :cupidarrow: those were the days.

I'm counting rideable trails as of today that are cleared of debri and fallen logs, etc. In total from back when they were open there is way more than 8 trails total, not sure of the actual figure, but it's a pretty impressive network. Super cool long trails such as Ketchum that take you way off the mountain out by the twin bridges and swimming holes like the Letter S, etc as well. They may take alot of work to get back into their glory days.

Saynedesyn, did you work with anyone up there/ I was curious if you know the dude in charge of taking care of the trails?
I am heading up on saturday to do more work on sunday with the guy. If you're gonna be around let me know maybe we can get together to do some more work.

does anybody have a place up there to crash for a weekend? This really sounds like the kind of place that I wouldn't mind investing a weekend blazing a couple of trails and drinking some beers. I'd be willing to head up friday, crash, work all day saturday, crash, work sunday afternoon...do you guys need any help?

I'm in boston, so it would be tough to do a day trip for me.

to be honest we don't actually have to blaze new trails it's really just resurrecting the old ones . I am coming from lancaster mass so doing a day trip isn't the best either but like I said I'll be heading up on saturday afternoon.
the main thing is that the mountain doesn't want anyone doing any rogue trail building, or big stunt building the terrain doesn't really call for it there.
I will probably be crashing at the brookside condominiums with one or two more people at the moment.
this weekend we won't need as many people as we took last weekend drop me a pm if you wanna meet up there.

OMFG, this rocks. Moose Tack is the greatest trail ever. I miss that place so much.
I agree. That off camber rock left turn at mach 6 into the woods, love it.

Balljoint and Driveshaft here I come.

Man if you could just link moosetack up to the top of balljoint and driveshaft, then to D1 at whistler into hornet. That would be sick. You would need some kind of wormhole.

I worked with a couple of friends up there one day, but most of the work I did was by myself. Are you talking about 229 on Busted Spoke? Not sure what his name is, but he seems to be heading up the bike park. After riding moose tack the other day I'd say it is pretty much good to go other than the bottom is still a bit leafy and eroded. I may be up tomorrow, this heat sucks though.

I forgot like all of the names of the trails. was balljoint the one where you had to ride over a pallet over a snomaking pipe on to some rock then jump off the end?

Yeah, I think thats driveshaft. Balljoint is the top one where you have that 90 degree left berm where you have to hit it at full speed so you can bunnhop that random 18" high pipe in the woods out of the lip of the berm. After that its point and shoot the whole way down.

Yes,229 Is the guy in charge of the trails his name is Steve.
the heat wasn't a factor at all sunday, it was absolutely perfect and we even took a nice rip from the top at the end of the day it was a teaser but we friggin flew down the trail. we went grand rapids to crater to the new and improved flume trail we re-routed yesterday then cut across and did the bottom part of 229.

the official opening is only being held up because they are stillhashing out who is going to pay for the repairs from all the horrible water damage.
