Riding was good today, more people come tomorrow.

I was talking to the dude that appeared to be a trail builder or something of the sort, and asked about season passes.

He basically said that they are open to the idea of doing some sort of season pass for the remainder of the season and all we need to do to get it done is "make some noise".

So, lets write them some emails (info@sundayriver.com) and also post in their forum (Sunday River Forum).

Also, save your lift tickets, if they do end up offering a season pass for the remainder of the season, they said any tickets purchased will be counted towards the price of the pass.

And, the dude also said there was a possibility of a race before the end of the season.

Talked to a few more people, and it seems like the new owners (Boyne) have extremely deep pockets and are interested in dumping money into developing the bike park.

Things have really come full circle.

Email sent. FYI, Skip and I just got back from our northeast DH tour - we hit Highland, Attitash, Bromont, White Face, and Killington in 5 days. What a blast! You wouldn't believe how great all these places have gotten. Bromont definitely wins for best overall mountain, but White Face is unbelievably huge and burly, and Killington wins hands-down for "most improved".

The fact that they're all so close is nuts - we never had more than a 3 hour drive between any two points.

Hoping to get to SR next weekend . . .

I don't think you even have to e-mail them at this time, just stop in at the ticket counter and inquire about the passes. The SR forum is definitely a good idea too, regardless they are definitely listening.

Boyne is very community oriented and they definitely want to see SR going to the top of the list of 4 season destinations. I have been working with Steve, he's the main trail builder along with two other guys I know of and everyone is totally pumped about the mountain goin on line for four season activities.

killington is such a sleeper mt right now all you see up there is locals and gapers with v brakes. so fun so fast there are even a few rugged straight down trails with lots of rocks. when you get tired of those hit the ones with lots of berms.

the gapers aka tourists are funny to watch sliding on gravel seatposts sky high with the teen agers ripping rental stinky's

the regular group of riders there hold it down.they just churn out runs for 3 hours then eat and repeat until last chair. They have a good thing down there

really? killington was the biggest let down of the season in my book, so far...well ever...some killer trails (maybe 3) but the rest were half uphill. Some totally sweet sections though, the bottom of 30?? was killer, nice and bermy in the woods, and then the upper part and one on the riders left of the hill was cool...the rest were too uphill for my bike.

I was up the weekend before on the 11th when they officially opened. I ride a white M1 with an 888 and an avalanche.

E-mail works too, I guess anything at all is good cause Boyne is listening on all fronts. I didn't mean to deterr you from doing that at all.
I'll be back up there on labor day weekend and probably just about every weekend until they close in october.

Yeah, really. Having raced and ridden there from '97 through '05, I wasn't expecting much when we stopped there to end our road trip last week. Man, was I in for a great surprise - tons of cool trails, high speed stuff, bermy singletrack, kickers, skinnies, . . . you name it. Absolutely ZERO crowds, too.

If I had to rank the 5 places we visited, I'd go like this:

1. Bromont - so many great trails; I just wish there was a little more variety at the top. Once you get about 1/3 of the way down the hill, that's when all the cool stuff starts.
2. Whiteface - Holy frigging crap. HUGE mountain and the top is incredibly burly. We got there late and only had time for 5 top-to-bottom runs, but I doubt I could have done many more given how physical that mountain is. FYI, we did 10+ runs at a couple of the other mountains with relative ease.
3. Killington - I was expecting this to be the worst of all of them, but it turned out to be great fun. If you haven't been there in a year or two, definitely go back and check it out.
4. Highland - Small place but great trails. Attention to detail is amazing.
5. Attitash - Sucks that someone has to finish last, because even Attitash was great. Just wasn't *as* great as the others.

Anyway, sorry to derail the thread!

highland beats killingtion, by far.
Highland does more to their trails in terms of built-up stunts and jumps, but I prefer the MUCH longer runs and faster lift at Killington. Don't get me wrong - I'd gladly ride either place, but you can do several pretty solid 10-minute runs at Killington, and I can't imagine any trail at Highland taking more than 4 minutes.

outside of the zero people riding, we rode different mountains. I saw no skinnies, no kickers, and the only high speed stuff was the fire roads leading up to the real trails. Was this good stuff waaaaaaaaay to the rider's right, thus necessitating a long walk back up the parking lot? The majority of the trails in the woods were equal to a lesser trail at some of the other parks, IMO.

No, the stuff I'm talking about was easy to hit on the way down to the lot. I was told they've been building a lot lately, so maybe it was all brand new, but there were definitely plenty of great features all over the place, and none of it required an uphill pedal back to the lot/lift.
