I'm homeless
I am going to be building a bottle rocket as a heavy duty trail bike/ freeride bike. I want a fork that is beffy but with only 160mm travel and not 180, I know there are shim kits for the 66s to reduce travel. I would like to know is that if I shimmed an ETA frok down will the ETA still work?

Above you on the podium.
Well if your interested in a 2005... there is a guy in B-ham selling a brand new RC. You can switch it between 150 and 170....

I know there is a company that custom shims them...
I'll try and find you a url.

Maybe wait and check out the new "55" from marzocchi.. I don't think it will be long before you can get one and it sounds like it's exactly what you're looking for. Also, on the 05's and earlier the crowns were tall so check the axle to crown heights to make sure you get what you want.

Ohh I see.

Yes, i am almost sure that the ETA will still work with some custom shims.
If I understand the ETA correctly, and the valving, then I cant see any reason why it wouldn't...
I would say go for it, even if I am wrong, it shouldn't hurt anything,
Keep me posted.

Talas sounds much better. 36Van is a good choice too. Or like above wait for the 55

I don't know about shim kits, but you can have Marz replace the cartridges from 180mm to 160mm and still keep it Eta. This may run between $200 to $300.00 dollars with Marz.

I have an 2007 66 which i had converted from 180mm eta to a 160mm with the rc2x function. I am running it on a Bottle Rocket and I can tell you that up till now it has been awesome and the 160mm up front matches the BR perfect. I could be looking to sell this fork if you are interested as I am looking to get into a Fox

The 55 is just as strong as the 07 and earlier 66 according to marzocchi. The damper cartridge is the old 66 cartridge. Same tube diameter as the old 66. The 55 ATA is crazy light and can be dialed in from 125-165mm. Perfect for a BR IMO.
