I'm just curious. I'm not particularly religious myself, but I did end up going to services 3 times this week (even took Sunday off). Don't want a debate or anything, just wondering what the gist among you heathens is.

So, do you go to church, temple, whatever? (Rides don't count, regardless of how good they are).

Only for a wedding or something...never for myself.

I was raised Catholic and went to classes, went through the Communion and Confirmation process, but have developed a sour taste for organized religion in general as an adult.

i'd rather hang out in the DMV than go to a place where people think they give time and money they get exclusive extra-ordinary communion with the Creator.
Unless they played Pinochle after the sermon, i haven't played Pinochle in a while.

We play Euchre and Chess. I pay nothing. Going there sometimes wards off lonelyness. And I like how I feel when I am there. The food is good too.

I was brought up Baptist/Evangelical in Texas, but converted to Russian Orthodox about 8 years ago. I sing in the choir, so I have an additional obligation to be there. Usually it's twice a week (Sat evening and Sunday morning), but sometimes more if there is a special feast day.

There are times I don't want to go because I'd rather go play, but my self-discipline is so poor in some areas, that left to my own devices, without the constant course correction I get from the Church, I would be a real mess.

For me the Church is a hospital, I am a very sick person in need of a physician.

:stupid:

It's sort of like college. You don't keep going to class after you graduate. My parents are VERY Catholic, but they also understand that all 6 of us kids have gone our separate ways when it comes to spirituality.

I still have some deeply routed beliefs from my upbringing, but have also formed my own ideas as an adult.

I occasionally get sucked in on x-mas by family...I consider it more a bizarre sociology observation than a religious service, however.

Lol, isn't it a bizarre sociology observation every time you step out your front door?

I go to church weekly, the reasons are far to personal to discuss on the internet. Let's just say it's the right thing to do.

I was purged of any tolerance for organized religion by being brought up in the Catholic propaganda machine. I am now a godless heathen and much the better for it.

I go to church weekly, and even work for a college ministry full-time. However, I think how many times you go to church is a matter more of 'religion' than it is of 'faith,' though it certainly helps my faith by providing me with good fellowship, teaching, worship, and prayer. I don't think that one can be judged by the number of times he or she goes to church.

I do not see the need, personally. I grew up baptist always in the church as a youth. As an adult I NEVER attend - I just seek the truth, may never find it tho - but thats ok, the journey is well worth it!

I hope you're not upset we are 200% in agreement.
I look at "going to church" like I look at any type of "fitness." [For you logofiles out there, "liturgy" literally means "work of the people", from the from the Greek leitourgiā; lēos=dialectal variant of lāos, people + ergon=work]

Some people are natural athletes. They don't really need to "train" to go run a 5k or even a 10k. While it's easy to hate these people (;)), they should not be judged because they don't have to train...

I need to train that spiritual side of me, because... my spirit atrophies so quickly. Although I am still learning it, the Church teaches me over and over that, whenever I stand in judgment I must remember: There, but for the grace of God, go I. If the Church weren't there to be larger than me, and remind me of this, who would?

I would agree and likely would be a better person, in my mind, if I did it more regularly. There are many other habits that need my attention more so than that, unfortunately. I guess we are what we make ourselves, and I do envy those that maintain discipline. I am too selfish for that though. :(

I know I'm not the person to post an answer about church. However, I have no caring at all for God, which may be odd, because I know Alaina is having a great time with Jesus. I also know there is no way (at least, right now) that God will want me up in Heaven. That's right-- I'm still one torqued-off daddy, and God will answer to me. Will my feelings change in the future? Maybe. For now, this is my way of dealing with what happened and how I make sense of it all.

I'm at church a lot. I'm in the worship band for the high school on Sunday morning. We do music geared more for the kids, so its a lot more up beat. Wednesday I help lead the high schoolers for youth group. Tuesdays I lead a group road ride that I started at my church last year.

Like someone else said. The number of times you are at church has nothing to do with your salvation. I just enjoy working with kids and my other friends there.

If the Catholic church isn't your bag, try something else. Our church is very causal, and contemporary. PM if you want to talk specifics, I have found open forums aren't the best place for anything deeper than what church you go to.

i go weekly when i'm not on duty (or racing :D ). i grew up in it but i've also found a deeper need and meaning for "church" as an adult but especially as a cop and dad of 3. i can tell a huge difference in my tolerance and attitude at work/home when i've been away from the church for a while. i suppose it has something to do with accountability.

I was raised Catholic , did catholic School and the like and went to church twice ( 3x quite a Bit ) a week till college , and I went about once a mounth for quite a bit , but the Catholic Church just soured me more and more, with all there crap. Of my Brothers and Sisters , 1 goes every now and a agin , the other 2 are every sunday, one of my brothers is every sunday , my other brother has the same ( if not worse ) attitude I have.

is there a Higher Being ? I think Probably so, does he give a rats ass about each individual ? I don't think so.
