For those of you not at Snowshoe this weekend, Ellen Adams fractured her neck. She attempted that road gap that was keeping the elite men's class nervous. Even with her serious injury she was smiling and friendly. I don't have to tell you guys how awesome that Matt and Ellen are, because all of you that know them already know that. They are good people who have done alot for our local scene, and her injury was devastating.
Please remember them in your thoughts and prayers.

Matt and Ellen are some great people! They set me up on the M3 for the weekend and bent over backwards to make me comfortable on the bike.

Ellen, you're in our thoughts and I hope you heal up quick and are back to riding real soon.

Anyone got their address that they can PM me. Thanks Anne

I talked to Matt last night and she fractured her 7th Vertebrae in her back. She is staying in Roanoke for 2 days just to be safe.

Get well soon Ellen!

I talked to Matt and Ellen this morning. She is in good spirits and they are doing a couple of MRI's today so hopefully she can be released today or tomorrow.

I was really upset to see you down on sunday, and was hoping it was something more minor like a collarbone. I knew you'de be ok though when i saw you moving around. I got hurt pretty bad the first year i turned pro too, obviously not like you, but i know you'll pull through it. Maybe with a little phobia of big gaps, but nothing you can't overcome. I have allot of respect for you for trying the jump.

I talked to Matt a bit ago. Ellen has a fractured c7 and t1 and like Mike said, they are waiting on some more tests. He said Ellen is doing well considering the circumstances and that they hope to be home tonight if everything goes well.

Talked to Matt last night around 9pm and he gave the same info as everyone else has said. She had some tingling in her back that had them concerned and doing the MRI's today. The guy was in good spirits but I could hear the fear in his voice. Having your wife airlifted I have to imagine is emotionally destructive.

God bless them both!!!

My heart goes out to Matt and Ellen. The North Carolina mountain bike scene owns them so much. If she heals as fast as she rides Ellen should be back on the bike in no time!

Matt and Ellen our prayers go out to you. I just told my wife about your accident and she was pretty upset. She enjoyed talking to you at the Snowshoe races (last year) and watching you race. We both hope you have a full recovery and heal quickly.

Guys, thank each of you for your thoughts & prayers. We got home about a couple of hours ago and I just tucked Ellen into bed. She's doing pretty good and in very good spirits. All of your calls to check on her really helped lift those spirits...each and every time I got a call that smile would come about her face and for that I truly thank you with all my heart. It is just amazing the community and circle of friends our sport creates.

Here is the out processing report for those with a medical background:

CT scan of cervical spine:
Nondisplaced fracture of the left lamina of the C7 vertebra.
Small lipoma in the T1 vertebral body...appears to be realitvely within normal limits.

CT scan of the thoracic spine:
Minimal anterior wedge compression of the T2 vertebral body...estimated at 5%
Nondisplaced fracture of anterior aspect of the left first rib.

CT scan of the lumbar spine:
Small limbus vertebrae anterior/superior to the L4 vertebral.

The orders are to wear a neckbrace for 2-3 months with a target for complete recovery in 6 months. Since Ellen is so active I'm hoping and feel she will progress faster than expected. One of the things they commented on was her upper body strength and what a benefit it was in her accident.

She already said she's looking forward to riding again...though maybe not hitting the gap for a while but still in her sights on down the road.

Thanks again for all your prayers, its truly a honor to be associated with such a great group of friends.:)

I saw Ellen attack the rock garden at Massa harder than most guys. I'm sure she will be back in form sooner rather than later.

Heal up.

You get that pic we sent you of the lil' hillbilly girl?
