The guys at MC just made a new WC linkage kit for the Shockwave which lowers the BB and slackens the HA. The bike rides sooooo much better with the kit. Floriane Pugin is racing world cups on the new setup and it works great. I saw her at the Champery WC and she looked so much more comfortable on the new rig. Lower stand over, slacker HA, lower BB and a sweet leverage ratio, what more do you want? I heard there are only prototype kits out there now and the rest are being machined right now.

OK, so now, based on ALL the information, and the spring chart.....the 500# spring is the one I need. Now according to fox, I need the 600#.

Either way, I have both, and intend to run the 500#. Now the air calculation from what I understand is based upon 60% of rider weight....

So, now we go 230lbs - 40% = 138lbs (60%)

So for, the beginning set up, I'll have the Bottom out adjuster in the middle. All I need to figure out now is the pro-pedal. My understanding of that is I want a little bit of pro-pedal for some of the "higher" frequency bumps. In other words I want to have a little pro-pedal....

At least with that setting I can play with on the trails......

Funky indeed! The "accepted" shock mod for the 9.5 is to go to a 9x2.75, yielding approx an inch lower BB, a 65-ish (or a hair less) HA with a 21.5"-ish AC fork, and about 8.7" of rear wheel travel. I had mine set up like this for a while and generally really liked it, with two exceptions: it severely limited the choice of front forks (AC needed to be about 21.5" or less); the HA was just too slack for me in most circumstances (even with a low AC fork).

Going back to a Push'ed 9.5x3 Fox and a '05 170mm 888RC worked better for me. YMMV.

The 9.5 works well. It's a fun bike to ride, it's been highly durable and maintenance free, and the BB height becomes a non-issue in real-world use. Between ample sag and corning forces, the bike settles, sticks, and rails.

I'll ride mine 'til it breaks. Or I do. Whichever comes first (most likely the latter).
Yeah, with the Shiver I had on it last year, it seemed a bit too slack even with the fork as low as I could get it. It seems like the 66sl makes it a bit steeper, even at the highest travel setting.

I'd definitely recommend the change to a 9x2.75 shock if you have a short fork. I ended up putting the 8.75 on because I had it laying around and my 5th felt like crap. I didn't even think it would fit (was told it wouldn't), but it worked. It sounds like it wouldn't work well at all, but my race results have slightly improved from previous years, riding has improved a bit overall and people who ride the bike seem to like it.

That equation doesn't work very well at all. To find the proper spring weight, use one of the many spring selection charts available on the net (including from fox).

With your equation I would need a 400lb spring, but I actually need a 300lb spring. That is a HUGE difference.

You need to know stroke, leverage ratio and body weight at the very least (the % sag you want also helps) to get the proper spring weight (or as close to it as possible).

Here is the TFtuned calculator.

Well, based on the above, which I agree to be about the best way to figure it out, I need a 500# spring. 3" Stroke, 3:1 leverage, 230lbs (rider weight)

Single pivot monocoque suspension. (henceforth the Mountain Cycle thread ;) )

Edit: Thanks Transcend!

Now that's interesting news! I'd definitely love to try the linkages with my current setup. Hopefully MC will make the kit available to the rank-and-file!

Do you happen to know ever happen to the 9.5SL shown at IB a couple of years ago?

Well, I took my maiden voyage on her this past weekend at Wintergreen....Had a friggin blast! I was able to get the shock dialed in...and thanks for all of the advice, because I was able to get it in its sweet spot!

What an active rear, it tracked REAL nice, and with the 888, it was SUPPER plush. I was not worried or apprehensive about riding ANYTHING! What a killer feeling!

I did have an issue with the floating brake, and since i had recently gotten laid off, I was worried it would be a while before I could pay to get the parts I needed to fix it, especially since I didn't know much about it, and what it would take to actually fix it. So, as the thread indicates, there is someone there at MC...and thank God...

The first race at Snowshoe is this weekend, and I'm leaving out Thursday morning. Eric at MC told me there is a fix for it, and is sending me a loaner for the race until the new parts come in. I was absolutely stoked. All he did was charge me shipping. I'm thrilled to have a bike I can count on, and a manufacturer as exited about an amateur/weekend warrior thrilled with riding as the I was....There are a few companies out their like that, MC is certainly one of them!

The bike likes to go fast, and the fact at slower speeds she seems sluggish is right on....so some of the techy sections with tight turns were not quite as maneuverable as I would have like, but then again, Wintergreen is similar to the park side at Snowshoe....when things opened up though it was absolute butter...

Tried to clear the road-gap. Still getting used to it I was unable to quite make it.....came close a couple of times, but not quite. Actually, Gspot was the only one who got the closest....God I can't wait to get her up to Snowshoe, a larger mountain......
