They wont give you money, thats for damn sure. They might give you a frame, or they might hose you completely.

A quick look and I see that the session only has a 3 year warranty. That may or may not have been the case with the diesel. Also, if you are not the original owner you are out of luck.

i don't think Trek will give you a session 10 frame for free because you cracked your'e own diesel,Those session 10 frames are super expensive,1 frame cost more than a complete session 77 + a view 100 bucks on top off it.Defintly one off the most expensive frames on the market.I live in europe and you can almost not buy one session 10 frame, because they are so super expensive they are like 4000+ euro's frame only.

If this is an used frame, then Trek probably won't give you anything. Warranties are not honored on used frames.

Frankly, you are giving warranty replacements a bad name. There is a higher cost to frames purchased new, and warranties is the advantage. But many companies will allow you to buy a replacement frame at a lower cost, and you might be able press Trek about that. But knowning the majors, you probably won't be happy to see the actual price.

But if you got a couple years on a pro's old frame, you should be happy with that.

Damn it's your lucky day. When I crack my 4 yr old DH frame I hope to cash in the warranty monies to finance a trip to Disneyland!

you won't get a new frame out of it. One of the guys in the shop i work in went through 2 diesel frames after the 2nd one they no longer had any more diesel frames to sort him out. He was offered a crash replacement deal and got a session 10 frame for very much the right price, but he had to wait 10 months and i had to have lots of screaming matches with the warrenty guy with our trek distributor before he would even think of giving him a crash replacement deal

exactly why you dont deal with companies like trek, specialized, and cannondale. there reps or moronic jerks, and they are total dicks about crash replacements on lifetime warrenty dh frames. so here is what i say man. dont even bother with the warrenty stuff, mount the frame in remembrance of the start of your dh caraer, and buy from a company that acctually cares about there customers. that is just one mans opinion who has delt with these companies in the past.:disgust1:

Lifetime warranty for ORIGINAL OWNERS. That's how it is, and how it should be. People claiming warranties as second owner on 4 year old DH bikes do not deserve new ones.

agree 100%. I think all you can fairly expect is a discount on a new frame. I don't think giving you a brand new, current model frame would be justified.

So you're saying a lifetime warranty isn't actually a lifetime warranty? What a hoax, I'd take Trek, Spec and Cannondale to small claims court before I'd spend hours on the phone yelling at a sales rep.

Pretty much every warranty I have ever seen is for the original owner. They have no obligation to warranty a frame to a second owner, nor should they be expected to. Bicycle owners sure are a whiny bunch.

all it is is a "Warranty against manufacturing defects". guess what, if it's been ridden hard and raced for the past FOUR YEARS, I *highly* doubt that when it finally broke it was a manufacturing defect. unfortunately "Warranty" now roughly translates to "Give me something for free because I broke it." :disgust1:

I re-read Frznomad's post, I guess he's saying getting a crash replacement is a hassle, which is different than an honest warranty due to a defect. For some reason I read the post to say that any warranty claim including valid defects are a hassle. A 1 year warranty against manufacturing defects is as good as a 5 year or a lifetime warranty, as most manufacturing defects will show up pretty quickly, I'd always thought Trek was a little more lenient on their definition of a manufacturing defect when it comes to the lifetime warranty, I know the company I work for is. I guess I shouldn't consider a lifetime warranty to be any better than no warranty and not as good as a a product from a company with great customer service.

If you work at a shop that sells Trek, you'll see that Trek is actually very generous with their warranties.

Case in point, a gentlemen that bought an 06 6000 hardtail. He comes in about 6 months later w/ a crank on the seat tube. Trek replaces it with an 8500 frame. Then Trek replaces his rearwheel. We install new LX cranks because he ovalizoed the spindle on his old ones. I've replaced his XT pads 4 times. This guy is an animal.

He comes in a couple months ago and his 8500 is cracked at the seatstay. Trek sends out another 8500. Trek has warranited 2 frames and a wheel for this guy, and out rep says he has no problem warranting more stuff for him.

If you are the originaly owner, Trek will take care of you. If you are not, they have NO obligation to give anything to you let alone a new frame.

Crash repalcement isnt hard at all with trek/Spec/Cannon. None they are all easy, trick is to register your product with the company when you buy it. As far as the original question, Your trying to get a warranty on a Pro DH racers Old frame, sure its only six runs, but they were tough abusive runs, Its a USED bike, Props to the bike shop for even trying, but i can almost guarantee you will not get any type of warranty, absolutly no upgrade option period, they will not warranty upgrade you to a session, its just not gonna happen, at best, if they happen to have an old Deisel frame, they might give you a clearance price, but thats all. Let us know what you end up with

Trek is very generous to original owners, i have a lady Customer who came in and bought a Madone back in 04, 9 months later she comes in tell sus she was JRA, and it stopped feeling right. LSS, cracked seat and chain stays. Come to findout she didnt realize that when her bike was sitting in the trunk, that the trunk would hit the bike when she drove down the road. As in her bike was left hanging partway out of the trunk. Trek still gave her a free frame. Even though there warranty doesnt cover abuse, they had an extra so they gave it to her, didnt cover labor.

Tough abusive runs under Jill Kintner? Man, I needed a good laugh, thank you.

But regardless, you are still f-ed guy. A five year old dh frame is practically antique. Suck it up and buy something new. And the small company vs big company thing is bunk, its all a wash due to the fact that many small companies have no money and no frames to give you. From my years of shop experience, its all hit and miss. Thats why its good to unload your stuff before it breaks.

when i was turning wrenches, a guy came in with a 15 year old specialized rockhopper with a broken weld at the chainstay near the axle. he was the original owner (and amazingly had receipts to prove it). s'ped replaced it no questions asked.

but yea. the best you'll probably get is a deal on a new frame. i hope they'll take better care of you, just don't get your hopes up.

While that may be true, how many times have you heard a LBS employee throw in the fact that such and such a bike has a lifetime warrenty as a selling point? If I were an average Joe Schmoe off the street looking to start downhilling, I would take that at face value no questions asked, and then probably be a little upset when I'm told no one will warrenty my frame.

Being the jaded buying and breaking bikes since 1985 (and still riding like a hack today) rider that I am, if any company doesnt' completely screw me over on a warrenty replacement (if I even try to cash in on it anymore), I am pleasently surprised.

As lame as Trek is, they are hands down the best when it comes to warranty between them, Specialized and Cannondale. Just last week a guy crunched his madone top tube in his home stand and they gave him a project 1 replacement with his choice of color.

Besides that there is an abundance of idiocy in this thread.

And please for the love of baby jesus, Frzznomad or whatever, please save your internet gibberish for myspace or instant messenger cuz it's horrible on my eyes.
