Dude I am so loving those raw aluminum rigs in this thread. My 'goose bd just got stripped getting ready for some chemical stripper next. I got the Go-Ride Crowns on my 888, I'm thinking the front deraileur, is gonna go bye, bye, and a new crank. Trying to come down from 45lbs.

Well my DH-230 is just over 42lb and that's with some lighter stuff than the stock build (SDG I beam and alloy trough-axle). There's no way the frame weighs in at 8.8lb. That's just the weight taken off the CycleSuperStore.ie website and it can't be correct. Even the 18.5 kg (approx 40.7 lb) quoted on the Lapierre site for the bike isn't right.

The Socom is significantly lighter and feels it when you ride it. The stock DH230 is a solid construction. That's why Nico has had his on a serious diet. I bet that's more in line with the Socom's 8.8lb! I'm saving for a Socom.

Check your weight it can't be over 42 as my previous bike was 42.5 and this one is significantly lighter.

Btw. I've seen it build at 16kg

My excel spreadsheet says that as she sits in the photo she weighs in at 37.33 lbs I would say its closer to 37.8 or so to be safe. With the smarty pedals she'll weigh in around 36.5. Rides like a dream!

My 07 Sunday Factory. 40.8lbs as shown. Nothing special in the weight weenie department and I could easily shed some weight with a ti spring and other fancy bits.

Here is my new Preston just finished it up.. Finally it came in at 37.6 lbs but that was with the Kenda's which sucked.... I just put on Minion 2.5's DHR with Maxxis DH Tubes.. Now 39.8lbs Here are the stats:

Hi, not sub 40 but getting close. 41.7 lb

Hm I think you just need to look at other bikes stuff as it's one of the lightest frame and stock weight is very close to 40. Looks live you've managed to add some lbs to it anyway.

Btw. The new 2008 dh-230 is 39.46. Look at their website.

2nd btw. There was some guy who managed to get it to 37 but he went sub 40 with glory ;)

I think the DH 230 8lb frame weight is a myth 'cos Lapierre must have some "special" scales :redface:

I weighed mine in it's stock form (with the DX5 Airshock and the heavy duty Lapierre chain device) and I was surprided to see 42.5lb, having expected lighter based on the marketing info. The only weight i've added has been in the shock. I think i've taken quite a bit off (ie chain device, rear hub, seat / seat pin and trough axle).

This isn't a super light bike but I think you could get it around 40lb. BTW, I've found that fork and shock set up made the biggest difference in how light this bike rides.

I was rather thinking about tube tires and the bar but you have a point. I'm thinking about new seat anyway but I think it can get sub 40 easily if you also change the marz to RS Box WC. Hmmm maybe the frame weight is 1kg back. That would explain some things ;)

btw. Do u used the nico settings on the dhx or instantly changed it?

Yes, I used the 28% sag and other Nico settings and they worked OK. To tell you the truth, I didn't find the DHX air gave enough feedback to notice subtle differences in tuning. But then, Nico doesn't run the air shock, so that tells you something.

Run more compression. When the fork does not dissipate energy on the compression stroke it is stored in the spring and bled off during the rebound stroke. You can add more rebound to a point, but its usually too much. Add more compression. If it starts spiking then try a softer spring.

It's the Solo Air, so I can't change out the spring. And for snowshoe I had it on very soft Low Speed Compression and relatively hard high speed compression @ 65psi. I called Sram Tech on friday from my shop and the guy was no help whatsoever, he just told me to mail the fork in.

Well then you can just add or subtract air.

I use LSC for bike handle i.e. turning and braking and HSC for... well for high speed compression. Which is usually none.

Hey Matt,
I raced Snowshoe last weekend on that same fork, and I had my psi somewhere around 32, and I weigh 180. If your rebound is broken,
I would run as low pressure as possibly (that should slow it down some), and run alot of low speed compression to keep it from diving.

Yep. It's a bit lighter. Saves on rotational weight. I know alot of people say its a lame idea as its easier to pinch or puncture. However I have had very good luck with the setup. I have run 16" tubes in my BMX bike for years. When I started riding mtb 2 1/2 years I slapped 24's in it right away. In 2.5 years I have NEVER had a flat. Consider it lucky or not. I have a theory on how they work better, but I won't go into detail.

Yeah, ive run 20'' x 1.95 bmx tubes in my downhill bike wheels (26x2.5) in a pinch when I have no other option. It worked fine, until I thorn flatted about a week later. I wouldnt race on it, but if you have nothing else it will get you through to the end of the day.

Cool thing about rubber is that it stretches...who would have thought.
