Ok so I work at a shop now, and got my first pay check (in my life) last week...it was a full time 2 week job, so I got paid pretty well. Anyhow, in 2 months I'll have enough money to buy the best DJ build I could ever dream...and thats what I plan to do. I was going to be buying a new full suspension, but after watching Dylan and the dirt bags on the Drop in (the TV show) bus everyday riding street, and doing it 30min. from my house...I want a hardtail.

Heres the thing, I'm coming from 2 years on a Specialized bighit. I'm not the smoothest rider because of it, so I want a hardtail that can take abuse. I've been looking at frames...heres what I came up with.

1) Transition T.O.P.
2)DMR Transition
3) Last Rufus (hard to find, but I really want one if I can)

Lastly, anyone have any suggestions on forks? I plan to make this a single speed DJ and street bike, but I'll use it to get places when I want to ride too. I was thinking along the lines of a pike, or zokes 4X?

P.S. I want THE BEST, so throw me your dream list. :brows:

I'd say out of that list the Tranny TOP. You edited your message but I think it would also be nice buying product from someone nearby...the localism thing and all. I have a Tranny BR and it's a flipping blast, so I'm guessing the TOP's geometry could be good as well.

Other stuff:

Fork - NemPro Marz @ 80mm (see what models they have available now/recommend)
Headset - King w/ compression mod or Cane Creek s-3 and a Tree Compression Bolt
Wheels - Profile 20mm up front w/ Profile SS or 6 speed bolt on in the rear, 36H, laced to Sun Rhyno Lites or Singletracks
Tires - Maxxis Holly Rollers - 2.4 up front 2.2 in the back, or a Tioga FS100 in the back for more park/street stuff
Cranks - Profiles 175
Pedals - Personal preference but those Wellgo MG-1's are light and grippy as hell
Seat/Seatpost - kinda personal but I'd say SDG I-Beam stuff
Drivetrain - Endless Cog, Profile or Tree sprocket, Sram PC-68 chain
Brakes - Avid Juicy 5's
Bars/Stem - very personal... but for me...

25.4 or 31.8 bars I like Answer Pro-Tapers the best - 2" rise of course. 25.4 stems - Deity or NemPro. 31.8 - Deity or Thomson X4 in 50mm length.

If you want to go 22.2 - NemPro bars and a good BMX stem - FBM, Solid, Fit, S&M, Kink, Odyssey make some nice ones

I agree with Don, go with the TOP. I have a DMR Transition and it feels like a big BMX, which is great, but considering your coming from a Big Hit, it will feel quite akward. The TOP is a great overall DJ and street bike. You may also conisder a DJ full suspension, such as the Tranny Double, SC Blur 4x, ect... with a DHX to make it nice and stiff for the hardtail feel but fully comfort. Just something to consider.

I also agree with Don, go with the TOP or the Double.
Fork - NemPro Marz 4x or dj-1 08 @ 65mm
Headset - Chris King or FSA Impact Pro if it is integrated
Handlebars - NemPro so you can use any BMX stem
Stem - NemPro or Animal
Seat - Fit
Seat Post - Thomson Elite
Wheels - Profile 20mm up front w/ Profile SS in the rear, 36H, laced to Atomlab pimp lite
Tires - Tioga FS100 if you can find them
Cranks - Profiles 175 Race, ti spdl
Pedals - Animal or what feels good to you
Drivetrain - Animal light sprocket, Shadow Conspiracy half-link chain, Gusset Double Six
Brakes - up to you

I've desided to go hardtail, because being on a hardtail improves your form alot. And, I want something light, flickable, and something I can use for trials...I want to get into hopping around on things...looks cool.

But thanks guys, I'll start looking into all this stuff. The final list will come down to what I can get at cost, since I do work at a shop, and its part of the perks. (Not to mention saves me like 2 grand a year)

EDIT: How do I get a nempro marz? I cant find 'em or their pricing...I'm assuming a rep will tune in soon.

the best in my estimation would be:
(with off the shelf and soon to be vailable bits)

frame depends on geometry,
but i'm liking the new Kona Shonky, Reset, Last Raffinix, Dob, NS Capital

bar:
i'm looking at getting a NS bikes District
stem:
i'd be happy with a Drive Twin for 22.2 bar, or do like me and get a Large Bullmoose for a 25.4 bar, for a 31.8 bar i'd probably look at a Stone Edge.
headset:
Crank brothers stainless, or failing that whip it out and step up for a Chris King steelset.
fork:
36? magura?
hubs:
Last Zakk and Carmen
spokes:
Alpine III or equivalent (Sapim Strong, Wheelsmith dh13)
rims:
Arrow frx
crank:
Gusset Maz 1-2 when it comes out. um, Wombolt, DMR Extype
bb:
depends on frame, if you can replace the bearings with top grade SKFs from your local bearing shop. If it's good enough for Campy... There's also the Phil Wood external option
pedals:
a feel thing, price for weight i love my Wellgo lu a52, sold under many brands now from gusset to 1664, and onza. Otherwise Straightlines are dope, The mag Syncros are knice!
chain:
um, get a regular-ish 1/8 one and a proper bolt masterlink
chainring:
in the case of a 4-bolt crank the new On-one would be the ticket i think.
in the case of the gusset, probably the gusset, and in the case of the Wombolt, maybe a Drive guard sprocket? Or the funky as poo Seawright.
tyres:
Table Top
grips:
salt and pepper to taste, S&M lockons are sweet, but there a plenty of other options, i saw a good one recently but can't remember what it is.
brake:
maggies? Formula ORO? pink mono minis?

great suggestions so far, here's my take. the ToP would be a great frame to choose from since the company is local to you and it has solid Geo. Only issue with it is that if you end up getting really into street riding, you will probably end up wanting a more new school frame with better geo and lighter weight. the DMR trani mite be a better bet? i'll leave that up to you.

parts wise...i can shed some light on a few things from experience or more common knowledge.

cranks: just get some profiles. you probably will never need another set

Hubs: Rear- Eastern26 SS(i run one and it's solid), Profile, Woodman Bill SS. Front- Profile or whatever..not a huge deal. both 36H

Rims: Don't go with Single Tracks at least not in back. just go with Atomlab pimplites or Mavic 721s F/R.

Tires: Holyrollers are solid, but i would check out the Table Tops since everyone is raving about them.

Bars/Stem: go with Steel bars and a BMX stem. Atomlab and Gusset have nice offerings.

Brake: Avid bb7 with XTR Lever..

Grips: Ourys rock, they look funky but they are the greatest

I think you mean "LAST" Rufus. not available in North America.

I'd show you my dream list but then I'd have to change it for sake of premature debut and risk of worthy competition...
btw, "the best" is such a relative term, nobody will have the same opinion or experience.

oops, typo on my part...your right, I ment Last. And I wouldnt worry about what my thoughts are on your dream list, I'm just comparing everyones thoughts to get a general idea of whats good and whats not and go from there. I'm not really in the street or DJ scene right now...so I dont really know.

so feel free to post your list man!

fyi, dj bikes are not the best for trials bikes, totally wrong geo and gearing.

I know, but what I mean by trials is like tire taps/stalls/skinny's, ect. at random places on the street, not full on trials.

I figure, if the dirt bags can do trials on DH bikes and DJ bikes, I can sure try. :-)

P.S. Anyone know anything about NS Suburban frame's? I can get one at a decent price.

EDIT: Anyone have a good idea I should use for gearing front and rear? And what about bash guards...do people use thoughs on street single speeds?

P.S. you ride Chapel Hill? I know a group of guys who ride there and had the forum... www.freerideforums.com.

fork: if you're gettin a squish, you may as well opt for the Atomlab. yer pretty much wasting your money with forged magnesium and shimstacks and stuff. you don't need something fancy if what you're doing is jumps and tricks.

thats the thing, I'm riding a 7" up front bike already...going down to 60mm would be tough...I'm not sure how well I could even adapt to it.

if you -capital 'n'- need suspension to ride, [yoda]hmmph. you should not.[/yoda]
haha well I dont NEED it, I started on BMX like most people. I just would rather not take the time to adjust...I may go in the atomlab fork route, but I think I'd rather try the bike with a Pike or 4X first.

if money was no object I'd probably get a fox talas 36 fork. drops down to 100mm travel, just where I like it. I'd keep riding my simple frame. Buy some Arrow racing wheels laced up to woodman single speed hubs, and go from there...

USB Molly w/ butted seat tube (but reg. non-offset ht like gen1)
Dobermann Rigid w/ 430mm a2c no mounts/tabs (or possibly a Rebate/ back-up Marzo. 4X slammed to 50mm and cut disc tabs / or try the atomlab gi60)
Solid Bikes roller headset (or get custom molly w/ integrated FSA impact)
Tree top cap (threaded steerer, no star-nut)
Kink Relief stem w/ hollow bolts
Nemesis Project Folsom Prison bars wide-ride
ABCEd grips w/ cut flanges
Kink Light bar-ends
Colony Transformer lever (speed-holed blade)
ODSY linear line cable
Demolition vulcan grip brake (or revenge) w/ eagle claw
24" Sun BFR 36h w/ front drilled (or maybe some pimplites and torque nips)
DT comp 14/15g spokes & brass nips
Profile LHD mini SS rear w/ ti axle + 11t ti driver
Profile 20mm non-disc front hub (or proper if I went with 3/8")
Schwalbe tabletop 2.25 front
Tioga FS100 2.1 rear
light tubes
Fly 175 cranks set-up LHD
22mm spanish bb and proper cone spacers for good chainline (had to grind my fly to fit smaller behind sprocket)
Superstar pimp 25t sprocket (or tree lite 22mm)
KMC 710sl chain + 1/2 (or KHE hollow-pin half-link)
Demolition chain tensioner
maybe a superstar mini-peg/bolt or Plegs just to try
ODSY twisted pc (or new version of pc's / fly ruben / wellgo mg1)
Animal stump chump (chopped and drilled to the max.)
Coalition seatpost clamp (speed holed) (or put the strawberry mod. from a New Deal onto the Molly and chop the top of the seat-tube off and eliminate the clamp)
Kink slim pivotal kevlar
knight ti macbolt

yeah, I was bored. that's 'bout it. and hitting the scale at like 25-26lb, and exceeding the 99th percentile on the gnarly charts takin' it to the seventh level.

oh yeah, and a "cranmer" button, just for quick trick bust-outs of the ridiculous type.

stori what the strawberry mod from a new deal? you mean the wedge mod?

no wedgies.

it's an old road bike patented collet thing. If you think about it, it's almost like the collet clamp from a regular Thomson stem, but put into the toptube/seattube junction of a frame by welding in another cross-section tube there and sliding in the collet clamp. I think it was invented, or patented by a guy named strawberry, but, haha, that last info could be highly tweaked by my brain at this point. His name could have been blueberry.

just look up the new deal frame and you'll see the little clamp and the patent is designated by a little sticker in front of it with an "N" on it.

no real weight advantages I don't think, with the extra little tube and weld material put on there, combined with the bolt and collet parts would weigh more than a post clamp, or an integrated one like the easterns... but I just thought it was pretty trick, and even though I wouldn't slam my seat that far on a Molly, it would allow you to trim the top of the seattube off flush with the tt...
