cool video....
but about the XT brake levers...they suck, tried them the other day and they felt spongy all the time, bleeded them twice and still spongy feel, crashed with them in the woods and cracked it open, and there is a retarded spring between at the fluid side of the piston...really bad design in my opinion.

He was not trying to break the record. He just wanted to ride down the ice and then PHSSHHSHS his travis started spewing oil everywhere and all over his rotors, he could not stop and well the speed record was broken.

F you manitou.

I wonder if there's a separate speed record for on dry land?....seems kind of silly to have a record based on riding on snow/ice....D

This is a great post- fantastic find. A heli shot of the skier filming the rider would have been great, but it still made my day.

do you take issue with the land speed record for cars being set on bonneville salt flats, too? :pirate2:

From 25framez link:

Markus Stoeckl ... Since then, the giant nicknamed “Hercules“ (he weighs 100 kg, or 220 pounds, and stands 1.90 metres, or 6 foot 4 inches tall) has taken part in “normal“ downhill races, founded his own company, and set up his own World Cup team MS-Intense Factory-Racing. He was on an assignment in Portugal when he found out that the old speed track in La Parva, Chile was being renovated. He did not hesitate and quickly jumped on a plane to South America after hurriedly packing his old helmet, speedsuit and his new Intense M6 bike. “The planning for the trip to Chile was so hurried that I ended up having to use my street shoes for the world record run.“, Markus revealed.

that took some time!

i met him in 04 when he was scouting for places to do that very run, must have been the biggest dher i ever saw, i actually wondered when i first saw him how his size could possibly not be a disadvantage as a racer, then i realized he wasnt quite into turns at all.

I kinda feel like I could do that. Put back on a few pounds, fashion myself a rubber suit and sweet helmet and just get low and off the brakes. Way more simple then a DH race, work up to the speed and go for it! Maybe someday I will get the chance. Very cool though!

Kovarik got the boot so they could keep that guy around?

:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:
mind you , this guy is Kovarik's boss...

I met him 4 years ago , before he founded MS-Racing .
He has designed our DH trail here in Israel back then.
Watch Lopes and CG rip it up on NWD8 !

This thread reminds me of pinkbike.

Blah, blah, blah, 131.5 mph in a straight line. I've seen 140 mph in a straight line, so HAH! Sure, I was on a motorcycle, but at this point what's the difference? Hold on, get aero, and don't chicken out.
