But sheep aren't.
I can understand people doing it just for racing to gain that little bit extra.
Most people I DH with wear it in Oz.
Mine's covered in big gouges and abrassions, and ripped to shreds. I actually like knowing I can brush a tree with it if I'm running a bit wide or cutting it to fine.i always wear it DHing. Knee/shins for anything else.
never wear it. body armor isn't going to do squat against the really bad injuries - the ones that will keep you off a bike for a while. Bones heal and chicks dig scars....
Pfft, post pictures of your scars? I think armour will lesson the chance of any type of injury that it'll cover.

Any time i ride DH i wear shins/knees and body suit minus elbows, the scrapes and gouges lets me know i made the right decision. Every time i think of taking it off i get that bad feeling ill do something stupid.

dbp. Broken collar bone, rib or a forearm will keep you off the bike for a while...
You think that body armor will protect you from breaking bones. Yes, and No.... just depends on the type of accident. As "Chopper Read" would say - "Harden the f%%k up"!!!

Stop beating your chest mate. Hurting yourself for no reason is stupid, and can prevent you from riding. There's no question about how tough anyone is on here. I've had 6 broken arms, broken ribs,Torn ACL,many open wounds(always have a scab),hung myself from shark hooks through my skin, but I still wear armour.Oh and I've not come accross many chicks that dig scars.

Mainly no,and even the ones you do get, they would be worse without armour. You just have to look at the damage to the armour, and that doesn't show what the padding does or what the structure does to support your body.
I'm in the same boat UDI,no meat padding for me.

My body armor did not keep me from breaking a collar bone, but it has most definately saved me from breaking or at least severly injuring my back , so most definetly YES anytime I am going to turn it up and ride or race in the knar I will wear it.

I have no idea where I am
A few weeks ago I came up way to fast on a steep rocky chute into a creek crossing and had to dump the bike. I hit so hard that I inverted the cup on my knee pad. I was fine and walked back up the trial to try again. What do you think would have been the outcome had I not been wearing leg armor?

I wear it when Im doing something fast and gnar like whistler, or if I want to hit something new at the local trails, were I know the risk of falling and getting hurt is high.

Sometimes. Depends on where I'm riding. If I'm riding locally with riders I know, and they or I have ridden it before, no. But at a race course, I always take atleast a few runs before I take it off. And sometimes, depending on the course, I won't take it off.

borcester rhymes
knee/shins, elbows for most lifty work
knee shins, padded shorts, dainese for plattekill et gnar

the armor really does heat you up, but it's not worth skipping it. I can't believe people ride without knee/shins...do you ever wreck? i get scratches on my knees even if i wear the stuff...still have scars on my hard points.

Downhilling--I wear these all the time:
Rock Gardn Flak Jacket
Knee/shin guards plus supplemental lower shin pads
Full face helmet

X-C Riding--if it's technical:
Volleyball knee pads (very comfortable and pretty effective)
X-C helmet

Most guys (except for maybe the ones in this forum) don't dig scarred chicks!!

Personal opinion: Your pretty much an idiot if you don't ride and race with full body armor. There can be some exceptions to ride without body armor, but if there is DH riding/shuttling involved, always wear it! If Sam Hill was wearing body armor, all of the kids that love him would wear the same stuff, Kids, your not Sam Hill, wear body armor!!!

They'll help or stop a shattered knee, elbow or spine. Thats a plus.

Its also nice to not have broken ribs and such - life threatening or not, pain sucks.

There was a guy at Dureya race this spring who blew his knee wide open driving it into the ground. Shattered patella and everything. No pads.

I often wonder how he's doing if anyone knows him. It was pretty bad. I can't help but think that pads would've prevented it. I'm sure it's been a long summer for him.

I knew a lady volleyball player who did this during a dive on to the hardwoods. She recovered fine, thought it probably did take her a year or more to do so.

I wear full stuff for DH basically all the time. For XC rides i'll wear knee/shin pads. Freeriding usually add some elbow pads if i'm feeling slightly off. Should maybe start wearing something for that too tho, like the 661 assault suit or w/e it is. I did a run at diablo without armor and kept thinking "now how much more will this hurt if i crash?"
cause your a pvssy

I got my armour and figured I would wear it for races and stuff like that, I mean I always wear my Elbows and shins, but anyway this weekend at Diablo I eat it pretty hard at the lower part of dominion by the end of the day it was chewed up anyway I caught a nice shot to my ribs and lower back i am hurting right now, i also saw a guy hit hard too and all he had on was a polo shirt... So I will be wearing my chest protect all the time unless its just some FR stuff that i am doing.. Lesson learned trust me.. Good thing I still have some Percocets from last time :monkeydance:

I keep contemlating riding without it, because I havent had a 'real crash' in a long time..

..inevitably I would have one as soon as I hit the hell pad free.

I always wear pads at resorts, and sometimes if I expect to try new and progressive things; most freeriding, jumping and trail ripping is shin or kneepads and a helmet.

i have fox launch pads have over a year wearing them and they feel great. i wont ride my dh bike w/o them only because i run flats with getto rigged pedal pins, that are 10mm long (1cm) and i dont want to have ripped shins. i just got tld upper body armor ill try out at platty this weekend. i have a fox launch suit too but never liked how it felt so i never wore it. always gloves and a full face helmet on dh. when i ride xc its just a helmet and gloves, i never go fast enough to say wow it will really hurt if i crash.
