i have a new SXT built up, and i would like to lighten it up. heres the build so far:

RS Domain (planning on a totem when i can afford it)
Sun MTX rims on jumping flea hubs (the are kinda heavy, but they are brand new)
Avid Juicy 7s, 8" rotors
Sram X-9 super short
Sram X-7 shifter
Easton Monkeylite XC bar
Race Face Atlas AM 50mm stem
Chris King HS
Truvativ Hussefelt cranks w/ howitzer bb
38t RF ring
Gamut P40
Sram pc-970 cassette
thomson post
wtb rocket v (going to get tioga spyder)
spec. chunder 2.3's f&r

next upgrades/questions:
e13 LG1 OR MRP G2?
FSA gravity lite megaexo cranks or XT's?(either way, i want a 36t)
is a Ti spring for the DHX worth it?

any other wieght saving ideas?

it is 38.3 lbs right now.

x-0 shifter, xc tubes, standard stuff. Ti chainrings, bolts, etc.

Oh and a little "spring cleaning" down there....and the other place.

Yeah, how much do you weigh, In alot of cases it might be easier to drop five to ten of personal weight before dropping bike weight. You may or may not fall into this catagory, but just food for thought. As far as the bike goes, start with the wheels, I wouldnt go with XC tubes, but just a standars style vz an actual DH tube, possibly think about a stans kit, DIfferent tires, then cranks Something lite and tough. The Ti spring is a good idea for more than just weight, its a better ride, anyone mwho has gotten one knows the feel, so yes for weight and ride, Ti the DHX

I have ti spring on my DHX and it feels amazing. Very responsive.

If you're going to a 36T, buy a Gamut P30- it's lighter than an LG1/Taco or MRP G2. Couple it with XT cranks and you'll drop a lot of weight. Use an E13 Guidering too- they're ridiculously light.

you didn't list your tires. that is a great way your tire selection. you can save weight going to single ply.

+1 Excellent setup, E13 rings are crazy light, P30 is great, XTs are really light, and crazy stiff as well..

The cranks themselves will drop alot of weight over hussefelts.

To the guy who said Ti chainrings... wouldnt that be heavier??

Change to a 8" front / 7" rear rotor setup.

Drop the chunders.. they are really heavy even in 2.3s
Changing out these tires will reduce the rotating mass, make your bike feel less sluggish. Plus, these tires have massive rolling resistance. You can still run DH tires but drop weight.

As for wheels, Dual dutys on WTB front (very light front hub) , hadley (reasonable weight, excellent engagement) rear has always worked out well for me.

Nor sure what the weight difference on a Totem vs a Domain, but Im sure there is plenty of weight to be lost there.

:stupid: I've dropped 20+ lbs this season and without changing a thing on my bikes, I feel faster and have some times on my road bike to back up the feeling. My lunchtime loop used to be a ~16mph average and after not riding the road bike all summer I clocked it at 18.5mph average two weeks ago. It's easier for most people to drop 5-10 lbs and save the weight that way rather than worry about 20-30 grams on the bike.

I don't feel like typing up a spec list, but my shifter/derailer are the same as yours, custom 6sp cassette (it was 35g less then my ultegra, IIRC). Heres a pic.

34.6lbs, then I added this seat cause the goofy road seat always caught my shorts.

don't forget to cut your hair short and trim your finger + toe nails super short, and don't wear socks or undies, unless it's a thong.
