Man, how do you guys destroy spiders? I don't think i've ever even seen that before! What do you just run your bike into a brick wall, bashguard first?
I have seen tons of people destroy spiders. On of my riders went through 3 cranks in one season. FSA something somethings. Not sure what model, but it was supposedly DH.

Fabien Barel went through 3 XTR or Saint ones in one practice day at the Ste Anne world cup 2 years ago.

In fact you could run the mr dirt guide without a front guard and it would still work fine because the chain was held inside the top and bottom guides.
That guide may have worked in the land of fart dust, but it was a damn deathtrap here in east coast mud.
It would clog up with mud so bad that your cranks would lock in place.
I can remember going down the ledges section at Vermont with my crankarm pointing straight down.:disgust1:

Geez, i'd pay to see that. Maybe I could see that happening on XC cranks on a sick DH course going hella fast, but certianly not under any "normal" Dh condition and DH parts, maybe i'm just obtuse.

Hopefully Tobler or Ricky will chime in about Fabien. He seriously went through crank after crank when he hit his supercharger on the same rock, every run. Even the Shimano guys came over to see what the heck was going on.

One good shot to a supercharger will bend your spider on many brands of cranks as it transfers all of the energy right into the spider.

Jeff (one of my riders) did 2 sets at Whistler (where he lives) and one set at Ste Anne. Then he did another set at Worlds. Then he went back to an LG1 and all is dandy. I'm honestly not sure why he kept deciding to go to the SRS vs the LG1.

All those cranks and the scandium frame didn't snap in half on a run? What is up with these Orange riders? They are breaking the wrong things!!!:imstupid::imstupid:

Uh, wha? Someone say my name?

Fabien's down hill bike in 2005 was a rare frame. I think it's BB height was lower than some XC bikes.... REALLY LOW. It worked for him though. I think my Mark III's BB height is higher. Fabien's bike choice worked for him, as he won the World Championship that year.... using an LG1 w/ direct mount bash. Oh... the LG1 w/ direct mount bash did happen to won the past 3 men's World Championships.... imagine dem apples?

SRS vs. LG1
Run what you are comfortable with. I know riders, amateur and pro, who run both the SRS and LG1, depending on the course. I prefer the SRS just so I can set it and forget. That is just my preference.

If e13 sponsors or employs me and gives me free stuff i'll say ICGS05, with 3 fixings at 73mm PCB is superior in terms of strength to mounting a bashy to a set of cranks with 4 mountings at 104mm PCB, with a zero chance* of mangling your $2500 frame vs $150 for a new crank arm

*statement will not be honored, because any failures of 05 tabs will be deflected to frame manufactures.

Too true.
Kirkcaldie's bikes used to be the same way. He'd run a little more than 13 inch BB's. Keith, his mechanic, would replace MRP bashring after bashring over the period of a weekend for him. Keith had a STACK of them in the trailor.

Herndon somehow runs 175mm cranks and gets away with it on his Demo. Me, I ran 170's and damn near killed myself... :D

Sometimes running a "pro" setup isn't always the best way to go.

Fabien's BB height was seriously 12.75 inches. It was nuts.
no.........THIS is nuts.

Hey Tobler, Jonas texted me from Interslut telling me that you guys had some pink tacos for sale. I told him to put one aside for me, but to hold the sour cream.

Who?

...and does anyone know if a bent/cracked ISCG mount is something that Intense would warranty for free?
cannondale wouldn't when i fudged my iscg (non 05) tabs on a rock, and cannondale warranties everything, but worth a shot.

how much $$$? 'cause cutting your own gives you two for the price of one...

For everyone who's really that concerned with the ISCG tabs on their frames, I have a suggestion. Use the adapter to mount a guide to a frame without ISCG tabs, that way you don't destroy your frame,in theory. (and for the record, this is meant to be interpreted without sarcasm)

The LG1 does in fact come with a taco. Here's a semi useless picture of some boxes with actual taco'd LG1's. They have been shipping to OEM's since mid-summer 2007, and aftermarket distributors since late 2007, a couple months ago. Hopefully the e.thirteen site will have some new info up very soon.

Step 8) You make her take take that taco out of that box

Anyone know the retail price of the taco alone? My buddy just bought a lg-1, under the impression it would come with a taco, and now needs to get one aftermarket or cut up a supercharger.

Same as a Supercharger. I was kind of surprised to find that out.

Something that a lot of people don't realize is that the price of the actual materials that go into injection molded plastics of any kind is a relatively small portion of the final price. Finishing and especially the cost of the mold are much bigger components of the price - for example, the mold that the bashguards come out of is roughly the size of an engine block, and it requires a fork lift to be moved around the shop floor.

I understand the costs of injection molding.
I know the costs of molds & ways that those costs can be deferred.

I also think the taco is overpriced.

And no one is forcing you to buy it.

I would assume the injection molds are similarly priced to the supercharger and the price reflects that. There's cheap alternatives (cut up supercharger, etc)

I just got a LG1 for christmas, no inlcuded taco. Does that mean I just got an early run? Can you buy them seperate or do I now need to buy a supercharger and a dremel?
