frame without shock is about 8 lbs, so figure about 10 lbs with shock, maybe a little under. it all depends on what shock you get really. the frames are also very cheap, right around 1200 i think. again, it depends on the rear shock.

there is a transition bike thread right below this thread which has lots of people saying that their bottle rockets are great. go with that

i would liek to know how are the trails you ride ? the bottlerocket could handle all that with ease, the only problem with the travel is if you like me like in a place where your trails got a crap load of rocky tech, huges rocks, and a jillion rocks, someone told me its comparable to a jackhammer hehe... but thats what im saying if you ride with some rock etc you could easily ride it as long as your smooth...

I like my Socom with a front derailer and about 38 lbs in light form. I did a XC loop with over 3000ft vert and 13 miles on it yesterday. Pic in Ride Reports.

My other choice would be the Giant Reign x1.

I'm happy with my BR as a do it all bike. With a lighter build, it can be pedaled all day, it'll take lift served DH without a whimper, and it jumps very very well. The Reign X is a good choice too. I thought about one, but I like the BR geo better. Just my preference. Nothing that you can freeride/ DH with will be a competitive XC race machine, but you can put together a bike that'll do pretty much anything else with some degree competance.

i was looking at the giant reign x series, but went with an SX trail. i think that the reign x may have a more trail bike-ish feel than the SX, but both are very capable all arounders. the build will really decide how the bike rides, my advice is to buy a good all around frame with an adjustable travel fork (think fox 36 talas) and then get a good mix of parts. a 70mm stem will help get you over the front end for climbing, and a dual ring crankset with a guide will give you tons of versatility. the most dramatic change i have made is buying a second wheelset. i have a super heavy, but scary strong wheelset that i bought will the bike, and then i bought a really light wheelset about 6 months ago. they have syncros ds23 rims and a hope pro 2 rear hub, the front hub is a quanto. they are so light yet relatively strong, and although they are by no means as sure footed as my heavy wheels in the gnar, climbing is exponetially better.

i've done over 30miles of xc on my br and tons of downhill as well. Just rock a nice adjustable fork like the talas or something u-turn and you're set. the reign x is also pretty spiffy and there's tons of price points there.

you could consider an ironhorse 6point. similar geometry to the gian reign's but with a better leverage ratio.. my understanding is the reignX comes with a 7.875 x 2.25" shock giving it a leverage ratio of2.977:1.. the 6point comes with an 8.75 x 2.5" shock giving is a leverage ratio of 2.52:1.. plus you can swap in a 8.75 x 2.75" shock to get a full 7" of travel, maintaining the same leverage ratio.. you could put a 7" fork up front too, that would slack out the headangle a bit and raise the bb slightly.

...............ReignX ..............6point
size.........16/17...............15/17
BBH height..?....................13.78
CS...........17.3..................17.3
WB..........44.1/44.9..........42.64/43.64
eftt..........22.4/23.2..........22/23
HA...........67......................68
SA...........72.5...................71

i've been trying to decide between these two frames myself; more and more i'm leaning towards the 6point.

i would have to say the reign myself. i'm getting and older one as a more all around trail/ heavy xc bike. i know that they are strong. a buddy of mine put one through its paces for about 2 years and ever a problem.

the bikes that have been posted in this thread have covered quite a large spectrum of riding and no one bike can truthfully do it all. i have been after that kinda bike for years. i went for a heavier bike like a bullet. it sucked at xc pretty bad but was good for both dh and fr. i have a preston. probably the closest you will get to a true all around bike. very good at tough trail and fr. also not too bad at xc (not great by any means though) and could handle dh (i did both wintergreen and snowshoe on it). in the end though no bike can truthfully cover that ride of a spectrum. the reign will be your closest bet out there right now.

i have a XC bike and i'm biulding a aggressive trail bike. i don't expect that trail bike to pull full fr or dh duties.

how much will a bottlerocket cost?
What just the Frame? About $1,200 add 70 bucks for a DHX Air.. For a full bike depends on your parts. For a full out bike with all XT or like x9 stuff and like a Zoke 66 on it probably like 3 Grand..

Get it dude the BR is a Kick Ass bike, I have a Preston which I love I rode a BR and it was super nice too, I was a little to big for the one i rode but it felt nice and flickable.. I am selling a new 07 Preston with a DHX 5.0 coil and a King Headset for a good price since I am building a Blindside, if your interested let me know.
