...and it's on fire.

Interesting. Hard to breath. Very smokey. Cough cough. I'm safe in my swanky hotel. I sure hope all the local monkeys are doing as well as can be expected. Be careful San Diego region :monkey:'s

Scary:

Some friends and I went rock climbing yesterday near (in?) Malibu Canyon yesterday. For those of you in "the know," it was in Malibu State Park, specifically the Planet of the Apes wall.

Good vibes sent to everyone fighting the fires.

Man, I was living in OB during the last big fire. Hope you all are OK.

Keep all fingers crossed for Noble Canyon...sucked last time. It was closed for about a year, I think.

If you're in a burn area and you're on ridemonkey... YOU'RE WRONG! GTFO.

That being said... thoughts and prayers to anyone affected. I've been up since 2am and have already helped 3 friends evacuate.

Current reports show evacuation areas totaling to over 200 square miles. Good luck peeps.

Info for San Deigo County AM600/KOGO

I'm down south, near Bonita (92139). People who were here for the fires 4 years ago tell me that the fires will stop at the reservoir, so we are "relatively safe" being so close to the coast and on the other side of the lake. Huge areas north are being evacuated. Air quality at this point is good where I am, but north of here is pretty bad. I'm told the area between I-5 and I-15, north of the 56 "looks like Armageddon."

Fires are spreading so quickly because of extremely high winds and very dry conditions. Humidity is between 7%-18%... Air turbulence and high reaching, very hot-burning flames are keeping aircraft from dumping water on the fire - it evaporates before it hits the flames. Wind direction changes rapidly and gusts suddenly.

It's bad. Please pray for calm winds.

If you have been evacuated and need a place for your pets, there are places. Send me a PM.

Just in from the SD weather service:

Winds are expected to continue till Wednesday... very little abatement expected. We can expect more of the same for the next two days. Hate to be the harbinger of bad news, but just... brace yourself and be ready to run.

Took a few trips, but I've already brought all my bikes to work. (see where my priorities are..) I'm glued to the radio to monitor fire progression. If it gets closer, I'm going home and grab my stuff.

I have lots of friends in the affected areas. If you're reading this it means that you're ok. Stay that way.

My friend lives at Otay Lakes and seems to think there is a bit of concern. He was going out to try to get his camper at the storage lot. I hope they stop him from going out west. Fire is the most fierce of the elements, IMO. Water is second, but with either, there is little to no refuge.

Please be safe folks. TX is a long way, but if you find yourself displaced, you are welcome at my place. I mean that.

It's bad. they have totally striped the Cal Fire units from Santa Cruz County and sent them south. It's hot and windy [not as windy as down south] up here and what we have left are those of us that make up Santa Cruz County Fire. We got notified early this morning to cover our equipment until further notice...

I have a lot of friends in red trucks heading south right now, I hope they all stay safe and make a difference

yah, got told to evacuate this morning.... sucks... loading up vehicles, covered in ash, house & car smell like smoke.... now i'm sitting at my shop...well, my new home! hopefully i won't have to live here long! :D

i highly doubt if they'll reach my house...but you never know! i think the fire is probably 3 miles or so away from mi casa...but it was moving fast... so far the winds were pushing it the other direction...but it's already hit the north side of Hodges.... so i'm really not that far away...

My home office in Irvine just closed and they evacuated the area.

Buddy sent me video from the conference room - you can see the flames across the street!

What part of Irvine? My g/f is in Westpark. Apparently they're having a tough time focusing on the fires because they have to force people out that refuse to evacuate.

Office is closed and we're sent home.
Half of the staff were ordered to evacuate their homes.
Many homes have burned down near a popular XC trail in NE SD county. Over 100 homes, atleast, are already completely burned in Rancho Bernardo alone.

It's sad and sombering but surprisingly, many residents, even victims, take this in strides. Fire is part of our landscape and many remain positive despite of the ongoing worsening tragedy.

We rode early yesterday before this whole firestorm started.
It was very windy and many fallen stuff were on the trail.
It was like this the whole time we rode for 2 hours straight.

Downed big trees. Some branches were still falling off while we were riding.

On the lighter side, a small vid I edited from our ride yesterday.

We are not too affected where we live except for the ash fall and blocked out sun from the thick smoke. Some of our DH trails in SE SD are close to the Harris Fire...fingers crossed.

Irvine Blvd and Alton pkwy - basically the southeast corner of El Toro base.
I was driving down the I-5 last night and saw a fire just north of Red Hill less than a mile from the freeway. It was creepy because you could see the fire line, the flames shooting up, and how close it was to the homes at the bottom of the hill.

Alf, your neighborhood is bordered by two dry canyons. It's scary.
Otay Lakes Rd near the Olympic Training Ctr is closed to vehicles heading east. This could mean that Harris Fire maybe making its way towards 94 and Otay...scary..

It's pure orange glow here in Chula from all the smoke.
Chula Vista has a dew point of 2..very dry.
This is worst than the 2003 firestorm fo sho...
