I'd go to the shed but dont want to piss off the hunters. im not worried about getting shot but would prefer not to lose access for everyone. any other places where a decent DH run can be had with shuttles or lift access???

i'd avoid any shuttles up there on saturdays. the only place relatively local to us would be sherando... i wouldn't mind hitting that up sometime soon although a trail bike is more ideal.

Sherando is a great ride, but it's a tough shuttle. If you start early and end late, you might get 6 rides down the mountain. 3-4 is more likely. There's no "pure" DH; every trail off the top will involve some solid climbing somewhere. The monkey who said a trail bike is ideal is right. Nevertheless, if a few people are interested in shuttling, let's get a group together.
Woo-hoo!

that monkey would be me (will hale).

wait a minute... you still ride bikes? i thought you were racing your porsche full-time these days? :) the last time we shuttled sherando during spring break, we got dumped with a snow storm and i was recovering form a week long hangover from a trip to the yucatan, jeffro. i'd be great to hook up and ride with you again. stiff is about to get fat in africa again and needs to get some pedaling action this weekend.

are you up for shuttling this weekend in your hood? it looks like we can bring a crew of 4-5 guys down your way to hit it up on saturday.

start early... end late.

Racing season's over...time for more bikes:busted: Let's do Serando this Saturday. Are you guys interested in coming down Fri night, or are we meeting Sat AM out there? Trail bikes or full on slow-up fast-down DH??

You can shuttle flag pole knob just out side of harrisonburg if you want to use the big bikes. Its about 1600' of vertical. A real fun trail. The only down side is its a pain to shuttle. It takes about 45 minutes to drive to the top. Reddish Knob which is right next to it is very easy to shuttle and better suited for trail bikes

It's REAL hard to drive out to Flagpole knob right now unless you have a rock crawler. You can take the pavement out but it's still a 3 mile ridge ride out on the jeep road(not bad -nice views). The trail Dennis speaks of that goes right off the knob hasn't been ridden all year. It's real grown over and sucks. Go off of Reddish Knob but be prepared to pedal up. Nothing in the GW is easily shuttled so bring a 6in bike or be prepared to hike a bike a lot. There is better stuff south of Hone Quarry:biggrin: Local tip: leave the dh bike at home. EVERYTHING can be ridden with a trail bike and you will have a better time.

Trail bikes Jeffro, I'm in. No dirt roads, they suck. Just the same three great singletracks we all like. hey did I leave my skate helmet at your house?

This is my last ride this year. I'll be w/o bike in Nigeria, Spain, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Uganda during the next 6 weeks.

I cant, heading to richmond that morning, if plans change though Ill try and catch up. Anyways just a trail note....on the downhill side of slacks that empties out onto white rock there is a tree down- and has been propped up with logs to create a wall about 3-4feet high (hunters maybe) its a definate stop and walk around. Too it is muzzle loading season here so keep an eye out. Have an awesome ride guys wish I could join!

I would like to get on the next shuttle train. I suggest Sunday riding this time of year. Hunting season is only a couple of weeks, we got all year.
I intend to cut that tree on white rock next time I in the area. It sucks to stop at such a beautiful spot of a down hill.

The tree is on the downhill section of slacks, the other downed tree on white rocks is pretty cool built up for a nice jump. Anyways keep everyone informed on the shuttles, sundays are definatley a safer day to rip it up there.

I personally think both of the trees suck, The bottom is worth keeping though you do have to shave a lot of speed popping off that rock.
Some sort of shuttle would be dandy. Is Nick still offering shuttle service?
