:D

So yeah. I made a website, go check it out and give me some feedback. It's the website for my race team, and it's more of a re-design than a new-design. Feel free to give me criticism, constructive or not. Either way it will be duly ignored.

Needs more naked women. A lot more naked women.

OK, for real now. Looks good but there seems to be a problem, the content in the middle is spaced way down towards the bottom of the screen. I have to scroll down to see it.

That looks awesome, I really like it. The one thing that annoys me though is that the content of the page is not centered on the page. Its sitting on the left side. Thats my only criticism.

Other than that, I give it two thumbs up.

It does that on my large LCD, is nicely centered on the smaller one.

Ah the kooky center type issue thingy... dammit. Not owning a PC has it's limitations I suppose. I'll look into it.

2006 Yeti Banner... placeholder? Laziness from the last time I did the site? Meh.

noice! pretty extensive content. you did a great job designing over the joomla interface. i had to look at the source to verify that it was a cms. the only thing i dislike is the lack of centering, as mentioned above. wrap the <div id="topFade"> </div> tags in another div and set topFade to center within. should be easy.

i also might reposition the search field, perhaps in the header. it's rammed up against the random photo right now.

oh, and link the banner back to home.

once again... noice!

Okay, the anti-centering thing is on purpose, I just figured out what you guys are saying. Basically, the site is "left aligned" with a fixed margin of 40px plus the 10px for the fade on the border. I did this because eventually I'd like to have an "open" graphic at the top that gives way to the background, like this site did here: http://livewellcolorado.com/ Sure I could center it but what's the fun in that? Maybe the hot tip is truly left-aligning it instead of psuedo aligning it.

Still need to check out the site on various Windows machines to see if the content (center section, the main goods) is being pushed down and why. I have a sneaking suspicion it's because I suck at CSS but I'll get it figured out. Changing a DIV tag width by a pixel or making sure the CLEAR attributes are good will make a huge difference.

Corey, good call on the search bar... that was a "new" feature for this year and I just kind of dropped it wherever. Joomla isn't difficult to design for, but a lot of the templates end up looking the same if you aren't careful. I took a LOT of stuff out so it didn't get "too Joomla-y" and only utilized stuff that I need.

All in all, this re-design is to get our sponsors stoked on the new roster and re-vamped direction the team is going, re-focusing on fast Junior-X riders and all of that. Plus, it gets my team manager/owner off my back for a couple weeks while I really hash some things out. Plans include a horizontal main nav, with a subnav still living in the left rail, better organization of "news items" so the team manager can blog it up, commenting features for the news section, an updated banner graphic for the bottom, and some other stuff that I can't think of right now.

Westy, I changed some margins and width up, does the middle content still get pushed to the bottom?

Center content is now in the correct location.

Something else must be wrong though. When I put boobs into the search feature I got 0 results.

I would change the team page. It looks like its the Keith Darner show, which it is probably is, but I would be more humble about it.

Why not just make the pic of Keith Darner the same size as everyone else?
It is the same size, actually. And it is the Keith Darner show, at times. :D

I'll ask him and see what he thinks, but he's put 10 years into this program, sent a dozen kids to Worlds, and a bunch of riders into the pro ranks and factory teams so yeah... it kind of is his baby.

I have no idea where I am
Looks good.

The only thing I would change is the placement of the search box and the diagonal lines in the background. Where the search box is now is disruptive to the banner and just looks out of place. It would look better if it was moved to the bottom of the navigation bar. I would eliminate some, but not all of the diagonal background lines. I would keep them in the banner but remove the lines from the nav. bar and the right side background.

Good to see that you've encoded your e-mail add.

Alight, I re-worked the header graphic just a touch and moved the search box up so it seems a little more "in-place" now than a fish out of water.

Removed diagonal lines from the left rail, cleans that up a LOT. Added some elements to give the featured photo box, recent stories, and rss feeds a home.

Added some styling to Page headers, not sure if that was there before. Eventually I need to come up with a completely different home page layout, but this will work for now. Still can't get the photo gallery to recognize the site styles, but I think I may have a solution. I also noticed I have styling on <li> and <ul> tags in my CSS file, and I think that's why it's always so damn difficult to line up my left rail navigation, since Joomla bases it on lists.

Thanks for the "help" everyone.

Super nice site. I only miss some pictures of the 2008 bikes and better links to the sponsor site to improve for SEO reasons.

Oh yeah, when we get our bikes for the 2008 season we'll be taking plenty of pictures, that's for sure! And how do you mean better links to the sponsors for SEO? Would text links be better? Better layout for the sponsor page, or the right rail with the sponsor logos in it?

Also... I just looked at the site on a Windows machine with IE... ug. I got some fixing to do. Margins and padding and DIV tags oh my. Damn Firefox for the Mac rendering everything awesome and exactly as I want it.

I would write a little text about each sponsor so the reader would know who they are and more importantly make the sponsors happy. Maybe each company even has something they want you to write.

For the link it good to have an actual text link. Fore example the Thompson link: The best mountain bike seat post and stem.

All about making the sponsors happy which I would think is a major reason for the site?

Great idea, thanks! That sponsor page was done really quick-like this morning with existing logos from the right rail. I already had plans to make the layout nicer with a bit larger logos, all in color, etc. The text thing is a great call.

Nah just the two this year, same as last year. I think we only did 3 races the first year we did them, it was just too much. Well, that and we ONLY did 4X and XC the year we had 3 events. Now there's 4X, dual slalom, and XC at each event so it's technically MORE racing, just in fewer weekends...

See you there!
