I am taking a survey, to show to the marketing deparents of the local mountians in southern California, this is an attempt to sway the powers that be into buildinga bike park. This survey will help to deteime if a market exist to justify such a large undertaking.

Do you want a bike park in so cal?

Is price a concern?

How far are you willing to drive to ride a sick bike park?

Depends on what the bike park includes. I drive to bear, but its not the greatest riding. Where would this bike park be? I wouldnt mind getting a great bike park (Like rays in Ohio) in San Diego. Thatd be great! Dont know if I would throw down 40 bucks for one sesh, but Id be willing to pay.

Do you want a bike park in so cal? Hell yes.

Is price a concern? To a degree. I'm not going to fork out $60.00 for a shotty half assed bike park with nothing but fire roads. I

How far are you willing to drive to ride a sick bike park? Up to 4-5 hours.

I drive 100+ miles to race RC cars on weekends. So hell yes I'd drive that far for a good down hill bike park. One in San Diego county would be ideal of course. But anything within a couple of hours would be great.

it can't happen soon enough!!

Is price a concern?
somewhat. Quality of trails, time of operation and type of shuttle/lift access would determine that. If it's full of sick DH trails with well constructed and maintained stunts and features, I would not hesitate to shell out some good cash for a lift pass. Even a year round/season pass if it was good enough.

I drive 5 hours to ride Mammoth without much hesitation, so 3-5 hours is easily done.

I would think $40 is fro as many as you can ride, not 1.
Tamarack is $35 or $40 cant remember and we'de rock it 6-7 times and its not a little mtn.

I've been thinking about a bike trip this summer. I'm thinking about doing either Big Bear or Mammoth. But if we get one closer, I'll be able to do rides like that more than once a year.

Yes,
I'd pay up to $35 a day if there's a chairlift, lots of sweet trails and no fuggin nazi hikers.
I'd drive 4-5 hours 3-7 times a year to hit it up.

Yes.

Mt. Waterman or Kratka Ridge up Angeles Crest used to run summer lifts for bikes back in the old days...
Mt. High would be the most convenient.

Thanks for the input everybody! I don't want to say too much right now except that we've had a very good response from a local resort (not summit or baldy) and that things look fairly positive for the future of a bike park with a race series in SoCal. This is something we've been working on and dreaming about for several years, to see it come to fruition would be awesome.

I've got a few questions:

How many hours are you willing to help build a bike park?

Who's willing to get help find funding to build a bike park?

Who's willing to help organize, administer, Maintain, etc.?

Perhaps we'll have more than 1 bike park in Socal...

I think its be cool to get something built in San Diego. If anybody wants to do this, PM me, and maybe we can get the city to help chip in and build a place to ride kinda like Rays in Ohio. So ya, PM me, and we can start a petition to go around San Diego. I think we can get this done

who said anything about lifts? I think were talking more about something like a freeride park. Lifts would kick a$$, but I think something like this would be ideal...

http://www.raysmtb.com/inside.html

I think it would be sick to have something for all types of riders. Some street, some DJ's, maybe a foam pit, some indoor freeriding stuff. I dont know, I think that would be up for discussion, but first we need to get it off the ground. Im all in... Whos with me?

that park looks kinda fun, but sure is a long way off from actual mountian biking! any park around here will have very small vertical change, bummer. ha one dude here even said he would drive/pay if its like whistler, no sh##t! (good luck with that, you know any 3500 foot mountians around with lifts real close by????) it takes whistler a whole crew to build and maintain those trails.

Good Day Fellow Cyclists!

It’s was an awesome day out at the Stump Grinder Dirt Club outside of Los Olivos (directions http://www.ridesb.com/syvclassic_mapdirections.htm) yesterday. This weekend is going to be just as nice and there are no races! What a perfect time to come help build a private mountain bike riding area! This is the site of the second largest mountain bike race west of the Rocky Mountains, the Santa Ynez Valley Classic presented by Platinum Performance the weekend of May 15th – 18th http://www.ridesb.com/syvclassic.htm, and we’re again the second stop on the National Mountain Bike Series (NMBS). Online registration is open now at https://www.sportsbaseonline.com/Item.aspx?id=2070. This is our local race that just happens to have become an important race internationally as well since the pros will be vying for very important UCI points for the first time! Remember that while we at SG Productions organize and promote this event, we do so because this area deserves a mountain bike race of this caliber and because YOU deserve a race of this caliber, THIS IS YOUR RACE! Please volunteer to help on the weekend of the race we really need you. To volunteer please email both me hecktone1@cox.net and Drew Hunter at watair1@earthlink.net. :clapping:

Perhaps you have heard that the Stump Grinder DC (SGDC) is going to become an exclusive, private, membership driven riding area or club starting June 1st. The rumors are true! (http://www.ridesb.com/sgdc_activities.htm) To this end we are out there almost every weekend building sustainable trails, designed by mountain bikers, for mountain bikers. These trails will be of all varieties, DH (4 Runs by ‘09!), 20 miles of XC, our NEMA International Dual Slalom Course is built and ride able right now! We have plans to add a pump track as well as several North Shore type ladder rides and features. To join the club and to read about all the benefits of membership go here http://www.ridesb.com/sgdc_activities.htm & here http://www.ridesb.com/images/formsmaps/sgdc_app.pdf. :lighten:

This is pretty exciting stuff, a 100% private “club” that mountain bikers can go to and ride in peace, without conflict with any other trail user groups, and no bells needed! The SGDC has even received coverage in national mtb publications and has the ear of the bicycle industry. There will be skeptics, but we already have sold our first 12 memberships so this is going to work. Don’t worry if you’re not a member you can still visit by paying a “gate fee” of course if you join you get clothing, event discounts, free camping, discounts at bike shop sponsors and many other perks. :monkeydance:

So if you want to see what we’re doing and check the place out, or if you just want to help, please come out this Saturday and Sunday March 1st and 2nd and help us build the new DH course for the National and work on the new XC addition. Work for only a few hours then you’re free to ride the courses and have a good time. There will be BBQ Hotdogs and refreshments as well being served at 12 noon both days. The gate opens at 7:30 AM we hope to be heading off to the work zones by 8:15. Please bring a flat head shovel or other digging tools, water, sunscreen, etc., etc.

Hope to see you at the SGDC this weekend! ANY OF YOU SOCAL's THAT DECIDE TO COME UP AND HELP, YOU CAN CAMP SATURDAY NIGHT FOR FREE!

Thanks,

Mike Hecker – Owner :bonk:

When we had Snow Summit, I would drive up there (from the OC) at least every other weekend. That was way more than 50 miles too.

Now that SS is closed to bikes, I drive up to Mammoth at least 4 times a year to bike.

$40 in lift tickets is chump change compared to the 4 tanks of gas I burn going to Mommoth.
