the better question would have been was it worth to have to endure the Rotec's of 97!
Didn't Lisa Sher ride for them before her days with Foes? Talk about a flea riding an elephant. Lesson learned, one size does not fit all. My husband rode a Rotec for a couple of years in the late 90's because at just over 6'4" it was one of the only bikes that was big enough to fit him. Those suckers were HUGE!! After breaking it twice, he moved on to a Schwinn Straight 8.

Actually I do remember you and House's "fun" on White Bros/Rotec's. I was at Seven Springs when you and him were trying to figure out how to keep your chains on for an entire run...and you were their only rider with a 6 inch upside down fork. And didn't White Bros/Rotec wind up pouring motor oil inside them instead of slick honey???

Had to be fun learning suspension from Dan White though??
Yeah, those things had a sponge and the bottom of the upper to seal out the dirt, you poured some oil in to help clean them off. Always looked like you had a blown fork with the oil on the slider.

Lisa was on Rotec also. Tara Llanes was there too for a while 96-97 i think.

They did have some spiffy long leg and arm skinsuits too....lol

Congrats to him. Palmer semi-launched my riding. I remember I had not ridden in years. I busted my old bike(rigid) and went to a shop to get parts. I was looking around and saw a Specialized ad w/ Palmer riding DH on a FSR w/ a dual crown (hadn't seen a bike like that before). He was flying down a muddy trail in spring conditions w/ some snow...(mammoth ?) and blue skies above. I saw that image and was like hell yah I need a better bike and a real hill to ride looked like skiing in the summer time. That was it---> addicted.

No question Palm was the man!

I think what set Palm apart and what other people alluded to is he had a superior mental attitude. He knew how to win! He was very confident, had a short memory when he did not win, and could mentally push himself to the edge. These are the qualities of champions no matter what the sport...... fighters, football players etc.

I remember back in '98 or so at Mount Snow, Palm was coming down the course peopel were going crazy and he busted off his crank arm. You would have never know it though, he was still pedalling like a mad man with one leg and hit the last jump out of the woods still pedaling with one leg (in the air), people went insane. I think he got 3rd and this is when the big boys of the world use to come compete at Mount Snow. (Jp's picture takes me back to that moment)
