A couple of questions for you guys and gals ready?

Here goes:

1. Do the Tuggnuts come with the quick release washers or do I have to buy them as add-ons? Speedgoat's site has me confused, since they list the washers as something to get when you click on the link for Tuggnuts on their site. Webcyclery states that all is included in the package - what's the scoop?

2. Should I try to get one and see if it works, or just be safe and get two right away? Note- I'm running discs on a Karate Monkey.

Thanks Monkeys!!

1. Yes, at least mine came with washers to adapt to a QR axle.

2. I also run discs on my Steelhead (also with horizontal dropouts) and ran 2 instead of 1....I think that was more out of old BMX habits than anything else, but in my probably misinformed opinion it wouldn't hurt at all.

3. Bonus - they also act as bottle openers. 2 on your bike = great at big parties when you have to pop open 2 at a time!

:stupid:

Exactly, except I'm only running one on my Steelhead. No problems yet...

They come from QBP (the distributor of Surly) with the adapters, if you don't get them let me know and I can mail some to you.

I run 1 and haven't had any issues. But I'm not a meat head :)

I'm running one on my Azonic DS-1, but I had to cut off one of the bottle openers (top one on drive side) to get it to fit into my drop out. Fashion over function I guess.

Thanks!

Those little buggers ain't cheap though.
FYI, if you are using the Surly New Hubs the Tuggnut doesn't fit well with the stock bolts. I'm confused as they are both Surly products, but I just ordered one and it didn't work.

I'll be calling Surly tomorrow when I go to work, hopefully it was just a defected one.

My buddy has only one TugNut on his WaltWorks and I have one tensioner on my Titus.

I have noticed a couple of times the rear tire getting knocked off center... would a pair of TugNuts prevent this.. or do I just need to lock the QR down tighter?

I don't see how the non-drive side would ever keep it from slipping, but I ran two on the my Soul. When I tried with just one on a geared bike, I had holy hell.

Two really work the best in my experiance, though one suffices in almost all cases. Some of the Tuggnut application I have run into do require the top bottle opener to be removed, though I'll give a dollar to the first guy who can actually use the top bottle opener to open a brew without spilling some of it!

So, on those QR adapter washers... they go on the outside of the dropout right? The larger flat surface between the QR/bolt and the dropout, with the small/reduced part sitting 'in' the dropout?

I have mine that way, but I could be wrong-- asking cause running these sure seems to shrink the axle; ie. it barely seems to screw into its bolt...

That's correct, at least that's the way I'm running mine.

Think about it though - a normal axle only has to span the width of the hub and 2 dropouts. Now you're adding 1, maybe 2 (if you run them on both sides) tuggnuts, so the width the axle has to span is greater.

I'm not looking at the tuggnuts now, but I'm guessing they are about 1/8" thick, so it makes sense that there wouldn't be as many threads exposed on the axle.

Front Range, dude...
I have Red Line spacers on my Unit, with a Spot rear hub. They dont fit perfectly, if I was really handy I woudl have ground them down to fit a bit better. No problems so far, got maybe a million miles on them, give or take a few.
