Hey All,

With all this rain, I understand that tire choice is critical. If I were to try to ride any of my local trails tomorrow, they would be closed.

So, with this in mind, can anyone describe the course for me?

Will the "freeride" portions become more slippery as the mud cakes on to the wood structures?

I assume that you will have an ambulance at the bottom of the course to haul bodies away right?

What is the mud like: slick clay, peanut butter, or just standing water?

Do you expect the course to worsen during pracitce with so many runs being made, changing the race line, etc?

Thank in advance,

Yes, it resembles a river, only a few eddys, so it's pretty continuos: I would choose a kayak for the race, preferably a creek boat, or if you know someone who has a Prion Tornado! use that. But if you're gonna ride a bike try some Mich muds or Max swamp thangs..... don't forget to use vasoline between the knobs so as to help shed the sticky, icky red clay! my 2 cents again... Bo ....have fun!

Your trails back home might be closed tomorrow but ours will be open for two reasons.
1. I have been planning this race for the last month
2. We built the entire course ourselves (as a club) and if stuff gets messed up then we'll just have to fix later

We would rather see people have fun on our course than see them frowning when we tell them that the race they've been looking forward to for the past month is canceled because of rain the day before.

That said, it will be muddy and it will be slippery. I would suggest bringing tires that shed mud before but as i said before, if it rains the day before a race and you know this then have MUD tires on your bike. Its a pretty simple assumption that it will be muddy.

Practice officially will run from 8am to 12pm although we would greatly appreciate it if you didnt really start practicing till 10am just to give the course those extra couple of hours to dry out a bit.

Registration, as it is on the flyer on page one of this thread, is from 8am to 11am.

We are not renting the use of an ems team to be at the bottom of the trail all day just to make you feel that you are really in an extreme sport. If anyone gets hurt and needs help we will use the 9-1-1 method, the one we all knew since we were little. Keep in mind that the course is muddy and that you should ride with safety in mind, but dont forget that it is a race. This race is not a qualifier for nationals or to ride alongside Gracia at worlds or anything but more of a fun grassroots race. It is what you make it.

Prizes are going to be awesome, the people and atmosphere is going to be awesome.. its just going to be an awesome time all together.

We'll have Morewood and Red Bull there along with a million riders from all over the southeast. We've got a couple of guys that drove down from Maryland today.. thats right, Maryland to ride our freaking course. Its going to be a fun time.

I hope i answered any questions you might have. We'll see you tomorrow at the race. And dont forget if you need directions just go to RACE DIRECTIONS

Hey guys i just wanted to say that today was AWESOME indeed. I was about to stress out yesterday when thinking about all of the logistics of the race but things went rather smoothly today with the exception of the two trees that randomly fell across the course 5 minutes before the race started.

The weather actually turned out to be decent.. started out cold, actually snowed for a short time, and then it got sunny and the course for the most part was fairly decent.

I dont have the exact number but we had about 80 racers today which is our biggest crowd yet.
I will be putting up the times on our website some time in the first part of this week so just keep checking it.

I just want to thank you guys for putting it on.
Anybody who has ever promoted or help promote a race knows how much goes into it.
The turnout was damn good, and it would have been way better if it was not for the rain and the diamond nippled wind.:twitch:
I liked this course a little better than the old one as well.
Good job on the race!

Over your shoulder whispering
I was in and out of bed sick and with sick kids and a massive chest cold and felt like turds. Then I got there, saw everyone else hacking a lung and Matt sucking Halls cough drops off his tool box (literally)..and just shut up and rode.

Great time!! My lips are chafed and I got the heck off the couch and rode some fun turns. Thanks for the Red Bulls...I whizzed on a tree after the race and it started dancing from all the taurine!

let me explain: I had a cough drop in my mouth but I wanted to eat my chicken biscuit. I didn't want to loose my cough drop so I just spit it out onto the lid of my tool box, and then my gloves were all dirty and I didn't want to get dirt all over my cough cough drop so I just picked it up off the lid of my tool box with my teeth! What a fun race though! I'm way sicker now, but it was well worth it, Great race!

^^^^ What all they said X 2. What great course to to get back started DHing again. I'm with Murphy on the being out of shape thing, I sucked some serious wind. If the Clemson crew puts another race on, my old azz will be there for sure, great trail, location, vibe and group of people. Well done.

I would hate if every course was the same. This is definetly different! The pedaling separated the men from the coughing up blood men. Tons of fun...GREAT course design/work. All your efforts paid off Clemson Freeride!! Thank for a good time....now take the money off the night stand, and I'll see you next time.:beerjam:

Great work guys, keep it up. The newpaper article was amazing and hilarious. The race went off with out a hitch. The new trail was nice, even in the mud it held together and drained well. Those of us from baltimore appologize for bringing our weather with us. See you this summer, check out the forum for the summer trip stuff.

Big props to the Clemson crew! The course was a blast and the race went off without a hitch. It was my first time down and I'll definitely be back. I couldn't believe how well the course held up considering the weather. Thanks again from the cental NC posse.

See you (when not hiding in woods) at Massanutten.
Unless it is breezy or if the weatherman calls for a slight chance of mist, then you will stay home.:rofl:

Ha, you were my motivation in getting ready for Clemson.
Remember last year at the fall race you said I was making animal noises over the gap jump, I was so out of breath.:monkeydance:

Exactly, I feel one drop of mist I'm calling my %^&*ing union rep about that sh*t.

And you're welcome for the motivation, although I don't remember the comment. I do however remember you getting a lucky dead sailor right into a perfect landing over the gap one run.
