SO if there is that much snow on the ground out east, how much is on the hills? Will it be able to melt fast enough for the two early season Canada cups?

I've been riding since January, I don't want to think of snow on the trails anymore

It'll be just gone by then. Conditions will be...sloppy.

Bromont had tons of snow under the chairlift last year on opening day. Most of the trails? Pretty dry.

There were wet spots especially off the back, a couple sloppy sections, but for the most part conditions were great.

I'm predicting a **** show. The ground around here didnt' do much freezing before we got snow so we're probably going to have some good axel deep mud.

Fraiser, any reason why they schedule Bromont and Tremblant so early every year?

They lack brain cells?:brow:

It isn't like they don't have any experience holding events in quebec in early may.

I think it may be in Tremblant's contract as to when they hold the event (contract expires this year or next, thank goodness).

Also, don't forget Bromont will be on a fresh, never ridden on course. Again. It worked out so well for them last time.

I know of someone who will be looking forward to a wet race.

take a look at last years nationals results, Someone you probably never heard of,He made it in the top eight in only his second Pro/elite race.

He hopes it rains for every race

Quebec and their 14+ feet of snowfall...
Actually Montreal has more snow on the ground than Bromont, the last two storms in Quebec had some rain for Bromont but mostly snow in Montreal.

We will have to wait and see what April is like before we can tell how much snow will be around if any for those first two Canada Cups.

Tremblant has a butt load of snow.(was there last Thursday) But it's true Bromont didn't get as much as other places around Montreal. Or the Townships for that matter.

17+ men. Does that mean Juniors in Canada have one less year? I'm planning on coming up to race and was hoping to compete in a junior class but i'm 17 (last year of juniors.) Am I right in assuming I have to race Elite Men now?

no you can race Junior.... to be senior, your birth should be 1989 and earlier.
I don't know why the "Junior/Elite 17+ Men "... maybe because Hans was a junior last year and raced senior.

Will, all UCI recognized federations must use the same age catagories so Canada Cups, US Nats, etc will all have the same cutoff for junior/seniors so you are all set

you will however need to buy a one day provisional license to race in canada since you do not have a uci international license

also, canada cups have some odd rules for registration (as in you really need to pre register) i can not remember the details, but you should send an email off to the organizer to get all the details... that way there are no suprises once you drive all the way up there

Age groups are the same up here, Junior 17 & 18 years old. The only difference is that at Canada Cups, the Junior X category races within the the Elite category. This was done so that Juniors would also be eligible to receive UCI points. If they were run as a seperate category the UCI would not award any points to the Juniors.

Is there a podium awarded to the top juniors within that category? Also how deep do UCI points run?

Dave, I already have an international license. I'm hoping to race Worlds and both the North American WC's so I got it to be prepared and because I had racing this in mind.

After a successfull hockey season (4th in Division 1 states) I've been riding 8 out of the 9 days I've had off and and am about to leave for a 2 hour XC loop. Gotta make the last year of Juniors count!

Actually long socks and knee pads are good also .

Anyhow it's proably going to be cold enough that no one is going to want to have exposed skin showing !

One of the main reasons why Bromont race is so early is because they don't want it to interfere with the waterpark... For the snow will be fine since the last 3 big snowstorms we had in quebec we received it in rain in bromont.

this is a pretty wild rule... what was the reason behind creating it? to prevent the blinding of spectators from the pasty white skin of a bunch of dh'ers who've been stuck inside all winter??? :D

Well the Canada cups are a class 2 race according to UCI so points would go 10 deep.

I think breakdown is as follows -- 1st-30pts, 2nd - 20pts, 3rd-15pts, 4th- 12pts, 5th-10pts,
6th-8pts, 7th-6pts, 8th-4pts, 9th-2pts & 10th-1pt

the rule is dumb

it means a rider in jeans and long sleeve shirt with no pads underneath is 'legal", but a rider with TLD knee pads and elbow pads is 'illegal" if they wear shorts/short sleeve jersey

kind of defeats the purpose of a safety regulatio when the logic is so backwards

but rules are rules and ya gotta play the game

I think the rule is dumb as well, hence my question. So its original intent was to encourage the use of protective gear?

went there last may. I didn't know there was the CC that weekend, but had no problems getting registered on sat, but never hurts to check. the course was awesome, it destroyed you in the first two min, then came the fun. it was cold, wet and windy. great race to get your mind right headed into the open.

there's not "that much" snow in the woods at bromont, sure the snow on the ski runs will take a while to melt away but shouldn't really be longer than last year...
