that's why we drink it here
My last day is April 11th, I'll be stopping in Syracuse to drop off most of my stuff with the 'rents and then I'm hitting the road. The stops I'm making are where I have friends to visit/mooch off.

Stops so far:
Syracuse, NY
Buffalo, NY
Cleveland, OH (Ray's!)
Pittsburgh, PA
Louisville, KY
Denver, CO
Bozeman, MT
Vancouver, BC

The later stops are spaced pretty far apart and I'd like some suggestions for places to stop/things to see that aren't too far off my path.

I've attached a map of my planned route.

When you drive across Kansas it will appear to be flat.

But you are gaining 8 ft. of elevation per mile.

Stop at the Kansas welcome center, say hello and tell them that you are there to be welcomed. They will give you free coffee and local trivia.

Utah is probably the most under-rated place on the planet... Moab, Arches, Zion, Bryce, Lake Powell has more coastline than CA+OR+WA combined :)

You must make this sidetrack:

I hated that place. If you found something worthwhile, cool, but for me, it was a two day detour to boringville. It appeared that if you're not a rockclimber, there was no reason to be there other than, hey, a big spire, huh.

Well it appears that you didn't go around back. There's an alien landing strip there.

Everyone should do an extended roadtrip. If at least one night isn't spent sleeping in your car, you failed :D

Also, bring a tent... and condoms.

You are more than welcome at my place in St. George, UT. Beer sucks, but plenty of good riding. Hell, if you stop in Fruita for a while I'll head out and help show you around.

Have fun on the road, I hope you've got some good tunes and some new tires. Cross country trips are the best!

Don't go, you'll get AIDS or SIDS or SBS.

Also, you better tap that when you get to vancobra. I'll be really disappointed if you come back a french-canadian virgin.

not sure how your timing will work but if you're taking your time I have some advice of things to see/do while going through wyoming and some of montana.

Devils Tower is a bit out of the way of your intended route, as it looks like youre heading up I-25 from denver up through casper, buffalo, and on into MT. This is an incredibly boring trip until you reach bozeman then the scenery kind of gets interesting again.

You can camp out near devils tower for $28 +/- at a KOA or there is a NPS campsite thats about $8.

If you arrive in wy late enough about the last week of may first week of june, yellowstone starts to open up the full park and its a place you have to drive through. Also if you intend to go to yellowstone, you have to see Jackson/Tetons as they are about 70 miles to the south. Another must see place in my opinion.

Another incredible place is Glacier National Park in northern MT basically on the border with Canada. More spectacular views then yellowstone/tetons, but not as car friendly, great place to go for a hike.

dont want to get too long winded, but i live in casper WY and have been just about everywhere in wy, and traveled on many of the major roads around. PM if you want more info/are coming through casper. I can at least tell you some good places to eat.

Kansas is better than Nebraska.
Lincoln, Nebraska is worth the drive through Nebraska. Monkey Wrench Cycles is sweet. Good beer and pizza too.

Remember, Wal-Mart parking lots are good for sleeping in if you need a place to crash. And most hotels have free wifi, just don't get caught.

Screw stopping at the Arch in Saint Louis and ride trail at Landahl Park in KC. Depending on the day I'd probably be able to meet you for a ride.

Bellingham, Washington ~ U.S.A.
Since you'll be going to Vancouver, you'll probably be driving right through Bellingham, WA. You'll see good stuff in WA, but be sure to stop in Bellingham as it is one of the hidden charms (has been voted into many top 10 lists among cities in the country). If you have your bike, there is good riding here in a strong biking community. There are a lot of good places to eat, but if anything, be sure to stop by Boundary Bay Brewery for good food and drinks, of course.

Sounds like you're going to have a great trip. I hope to do some travelling later this year.

I did a pretty badass trip across the US. I really enjoyed Devil's Tower but I wouldn't drive multiple days to see it.

A couple of great places on the trip were the Badlands and Canyonlands, but it appears you're skirting up in between those two states :p

Two places you can see, that you MUST see, are Glacier National Park, and Yellowstone. I'm serious, if you pass that close to both of those parks and miss them, you may as well cancel the trip. Glacier has some of the most breathtaking views anywhere in the country and Yellowstone is just... Yellowstone. Amazing variety of wildlife, the geysers are cool to see and it's got a great, varied terrain.

Probably my favorite park on the trip, though, was Olympic National Park in Washington. It's a temperate rainforest - the only one in the US, and I believe it's one of only a handful in the world - and it's an amazing place to visit. We started a hike at the end of July in shorts and t-shirts, walking through a humid, damp rainforest... and we arrived at the end of the trail to find a pristine, snow covered lake with deer so tame you could almost have pet them. Really cool park.

It looks like you will be passing through Columbia, Mo. (it is about halfway between St. Louis and Kansas City).

Let me know if you want to try to ride (plenty of XC, some street and DS), get a beer (great local brewery) or need a place to crash (as long as you aren't allergic to dogs or cats). Feel free to PM me.

I'd recommend heading up towards Whitefish/Kalispell Mt and check out Glacier National Park. I would also recommend checking out Mt. St. Helens.
