Hi. Im looking for a good and reasonably light downhill crank set in white.

I have two main issues, one is price and the other is the lack of availability on white cranks from the manufacturers ive been looking at so far. So i was hoping ridemonkey users might be able to pitch in on their own personal experiences to help me find a few alternatives.

I dont mind paying abit for them, but i also dont have unlimitid funds for this project, so i want to stay as low as possible for a good white crank on the lighter half of the spectrum. Also 4 arms for chainrings is preferable but not a must.

Pitch in what you can, and thanks in advance!

Just buy whatever crank you want, strip the paint from it, and get it powdercoated white. Should be pretty cheep to paint such a small part. Don't know of any crank that I would buy that is white.

i cant think of any besides the diabolous. seriously take a look at the deity vendettas. lighter, stiffer, stronger, and better made than most of the other cranks out there. they come already done in white. love mine, super easy to set up for a PERFECT chain line esp if you run a chopped casset on your rig. you can also run a plain old sprocket depending on what cchain guide you run and drop even more weight (new lg-1 specific deity sprocket should be dropping after sea otter or this summer. will weight next to nothing) w/ a ti spindle they are stupid stupid light also.

Buy any crank you want, and have it Pc'd. Seriously, If your ordering them already white, they always cost more.

FWIW I am powdercoating My frame, chainstays, seatstays fork lowers, and possibly the cranks this summer for $100. You dont even have to strip it down first, any good PCer will be snadblasting twhatever you bring him reguardless if its stripped or not

We sell loads of the FUNN Hooka in white, nice cranks, don't know how they're priced where you are. They aren't available in 83mm bb though.

could you provide some actual weight figures, of cranks and bb/axle? I tried their website but they dont state any weight there, at all.

Deity Vendetta cranks come in white. I just put a set on my bike and am very happy with them. A couple of things to know about them.

Price:$195
Pretty light but definately not the lightest
You have to use thier chaninring and if you are running an LG1 then you need to shave down the plastic a bit to make it work. (thier suposed to have an LG1 chainring later this year)
You need a crank puller that is reverse threaded if you plan to pull the cranks yourself.

I thought they where worth the extra hastle, and they look sick.

Saint w/ bb, chainring and plastic shimano bashgaurd- 1180g
Deity w/ bb, steel spindle and 38t deity ring- 1220g, ti spindle-1100g

Not quite apples to apples with no bash on the deitys, but the plastic shimano bashgaurd is chintzy and doesnt weight much. I would imagine if they both had the same bashgaurd and same size ring the deitys might gain a few grams but not much.

I would guess the LG1 specific chainring will drop at least another 50g

I can't really see a reason to buy the deity cranks if those weights are correct...

1. Ti spindles are weak and expensive
2. After putting on a friends set of vendettas, I found the BB system really really complex. They were a pain to space right and setup, all you do is thread in the shimano bb, every tool needed to install the cranks (2) comes with the cranks themselves. Easiest cranks to install period.
3. The saints are definitely probably stronger.

That's the weight of their old crankset which they don't make anymore. The new one is 960ish.

yup, 961 per the interbike coverage. and there is still a ti spindle option to get lighter. and they are coming out with a light chainring which will direct bolt to the crank arm.

You do realize that those posted weights were for a show sample of a protype crank that had yet to be made as a production item???

I brought this up on another board when a 'deity is the best-est' tard was screaming and yelling about their weights. Another guy weighed a set with bolts/bb/spacers (you know all the stuff to actually mount the cranks) and they were 1080 total (yes he had pics on a scale) for arms and bb....no chainring or spider.

So in the the end, these super-revolutionary, better than god cranks are no lighter than Saints....

We all know how Saints hold up......no one knows how the Vendattas will hold up.

I apriciate the constructive discussion this has created, but saints as an option for me personally is not really an option, as they dont come in white. As for the crank itself, im sure saint are great for their purpose, but this project needs white cranks as its abit of an art-project. If i need to let go of the white colour, i have Middleburn rs7's in mind for the bike.

It seems there arnt many white alu cranks on the market..
You should really not worry about getting a specific color. Instead, pick a crank that is going to work, and last you a while, instead of trying to make your bike look pretty. When it all comes together, the bikes without all that fancy **** on it, looks better anyways. The bikes that are all color coordinated, first, I think, look like hell, and are too "pretty" to actually ride, HARD.

Uglier is faster. Think about it this way, you could have a one night stand with either a delicate prom queen, or a clapped out crack whore. Yeah, you can have the pride of saying you got with the prom queen, but the crack whore is gunna be a fast ass ride because you wanted to get the hell out of there.

i'm sick of the "DIY and powdercoat it" and "the color doesn't matter" crap that floats around this toilet. if the customer wants a product and wants it in a certain color, then that is a fair request. if there is enough demand, the companies will make the parts and supply the market. how hard is it for them to make a few runs of various colors? it may cost a bit extra, but it might yeild more sales. if i've got the cash and i want the part, and the part exists in the color i want so i don't have to go find a powdercoat place, i'll throw down for it, and i might even pay a bit more to save myself the hassle of powdercoating it or tolerating the less-than-ideal color.

hell, nobody wants the crappy skull pattern on the new azonic cranks, yet azonic went right on ahead and made up a batch. it couldn't have been that expensive or difficult, and that is for a pattern, not just a solid color.

rant off.

I already have a downhill bike to be ridden hard where i care less about the aestetics of the bike. A turner dhr as specified in my profile.

This as i mentioned earlier is an art project. Some people want their bikes to LOOK good, not only perform good. As for your comparision with sex. well, im more into bikes than sex so enough said there.

I could not agree more. Some people want a contrast to the black componentry. Be it white, red, pink or whatever. And there is a market for it, but only a few companies supply it.
