What are the domination races like? Do they go through the toyota rock garden? What trails do they go through? Finally how much does it cost to register.

this is the best advice i can give you. show up to a race. hang out dont ride just be a spectator. maybe bring a camera if you please. see what people are doing take to some other spectators. ride your bike around and get better. save for a better bike before you blow your funds on a race you know nothing about and has extremely close and competitive fields for podium even in the intro class. dont think that racing will get you sponsors. the people riding free bikes are racing pro/expert. check out diablows site as well. many questions can be answered there.

races are fun

only the us open goes through the "toyota rock garden" the other races do not sport the brand names on features they hold the trail names.

trails vary look up old threads about races here and on hcor.net.

think last year was something like $65

I think I'll watch the first 2 races and race in the rest. The good part is my parents told me they would pay the money to register. It's cheaper then when I played hockey. The only reason I want to race this yaer is so it's like a trial run before I put all my money into a new dh bike.

ONly watch if you're afraid of getting hurt. Otherwise it's kind of stupid just to watch b/c racing costs include the price of a lift ticket, so even if you register to race you can change your mind and just watch for the same price (unless fees went up).

Watching sucks. My philosophy is it's better to race for fun, not seriously, than not race at all. I do that a lot the older I get. Do two practice runs and spend the rest of the time just playing around until it's time to race.

I didnt get much time in at Diablo last year so I'll proably spend saturday just pratcing so I get really confident. I also have an advantage because I have a new dh trail in my backyard to play around on.

if it is i would recommend not racing dh this year and save up some money or money you are saving from not racing and buy a fr/dh bike it will be better you and your bike cause downhilling on a DJ bike isint much fun..... but the USO is having DS you should give that a shot just my $.02

Shut up Travis. Race on a hardtail, it'll be slower but it will be fun. I freeride on a hardtail because I find doing drops on fully to be boring. Get out there and have some fun. Most importantly don't worry about how you do.

i second that. not to discourage you or anything, but why spend money on the race when u already have a disadvantage. theres always the argument that its not all the bike...but still...
if you wanna race to see where u stand, rent one of those timer watches (im assuming their doing that this year right?), ride the same trail as the race, and see how you compare to the rest of the field.

but hey, as long as your havin fun and riding...whatevs

OK? I'm not talking about fr. I'm talking about DH as i stated. its not much fun flatting every time you hit a rock in a rock garden

and like illflip said... why pay for the race when you know you have a disadvantage, you dont have to sighn up for the domination race to ride the course btw (well for some of them).

Next time I race... I've decided I'm riding the race course more.

Racing on a hardtail will just force you to be smoother. Or you could get a fully and be a total hack like Travis. If you have a hardtail now and you want to race, do it.

travis you should seriously shut up. you suck at riding the one day i rode with you and a group of people we asked you to stop riding with us because you were all over the trail. you are not good, skilled, or that fast. you do stupid things on your bike. few examples, removing your feet from the pedals on the speed gap during your race run.... to prove wow you can do a no footer but have not style doing it.... trying to show off yet making a fool of yourself at diabloween trying do a 360 and failing. doing things like that shows your just dumb.

You really don't want to talk about bike problems kid. One of those races I had 1 practice run and had just gotten off a 6 hour flight. The other one I had a flat for 60% of the course, the other race I had no rear brake. Not going to deny it, I cannot make it to the bottom of a diablo race with out breaking something or falling. But I've watched you ride and can say I have a lot more style and bike skills than you do. Don't say I'm slow until you ride with me.

You should just stay away from Diablo.

And to further provoke everyone in this thread, at one point I remember you (hunter) watching travis on alpine and saying yeah hes pretty good on that, then again he gets to ride here every day (paraphrased from what was actually said, I can't remember). FIGHT.

Or lets stop so Binary Visions doesn't have to come along and delete a perfectly good thread.

By singlespeed do you mean single front chainring, meaning that you have two front chainrings and want to keep that set up? Check out the e-13 DRS if thats the case

my cross country bike is set up with a granny/middle gear on an e 13 chain guide i run a different style guide on my dh bike that is only 1 chain ring. the chain guide secures your chain against the chainring so that when the vibrations make your derailors spring lose tension your chain doesnt skip off the chain ring. the e13 "DRS" guide is great if you want to keep your bike to ride some xc still, but if you are considering keeping it just for downhill and dirt jump use look at the other e 13 guides. If you do in fact get a single ring guide try getting a 32 or 34 tooth. The guides should be able to get used on your new downhill bike. I would recommend you get a decent front tyre. anything from 2.3 - 2.5 wide. The front tyre is more important then the rear because thats what allows your bike to corner better and is the best handling improvement.
