In a van.... down by the river
The saying "Your rights end where my fist begins" came from Sonny Barger, leader of the Hell's Angels. Its what I have above my desk here in the office, it represents to me the reality of all this "feel good law" that is currently killing this nation one day at a time.

Ok, let's work this out.

Do any of the following offend you:
1. Naked Women
2. The "F" word
3. The "N" word
4. Deviant sexuality
Nope. None of those offend me. But I'm an adult. And if you are throwing those things around when 4 year olds are present, then you, sir, are an a$$.

But I think it's cute when four year olds show off their booty dancing skills and tell me to **** off. I video tape it and put it on Youtube.

That's your standard.
Not mine.

What bothers me is that you think for what comes down to just a word that because your offspring is present that someone should deviate from their model of what they consider to be acceptable speech and behavior.

Some folks, myself included, are just assholes. Its our right to be an asshole, and its your right to walk away. You don't like what's on the radio, the TV, the internet; change the channel. You don't dig some guy yelling that Conseco's momma should be violated by the nearest ranking Llama? Great, get up and move.

It seems that is what you're advocating.

I think its just living in New Orleans gave me a different view of things.

Wait, I'm confused...

what I'm asking is that you personally only have one personality? I mean, you act the same around your buddies as you do your mom?

It's possible. I only have one. Well I have more than one but the other ones suck so I don't bring them out very often.

I say everything in front of my mom, grandfather, dad, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc, that I say in front of my crassest of friends.

There is nothing more liberating then the first time you hear your mother use the term "mother ****er" in a sentence with intent.

Telling him his mother is a whore and should be gang raped after the game and that his dead father commited suicide cuz of how much he sucks as a pitcher and a human being?
Sh!t.

Coaching little league is out of the question for me if I have a kid.

Do you have any nieces or nephews?

Do you speak to your friends and family the same way you speak to your romantic partner?

I treat everyone exactly the same.

Its either that I am the Thompson "Omnibiggot" or I just have very little desire to internally censor myself.

Kids, pregnant women, priests, muslims, Jeebus himself, would hear me speak as I speak. If you're not into my particular bent that day, or my ravings are not to your liking, walk on down the road.

Really? Either you're lying, your robbing your wife of intimacy, or you're way too intimate with friends and family.

You don't have a professional personality? You cuss and rant in front of clients?

You're at the doctor's office getting your knee examined after a bike crash. The doctor is testing the range of motion, causes a little pain and you call him names?

You're at a bank getting a business or house loan and you're comfortable talking to a stranger reviewing financial documents the way you speak to your friends?

You never censor yourself?

So it is just about you and what you want.

It seems to me that Mr.McGirk lives with the "me" model of life. He does what makes him happy regardless of what other people think.

HE is the mos important thing in his universe.

I might share too much, you may have me there.

Normally they start the fun, but I have been known more then once to slip right into "WTF is your malfunction?" with several of my more interesting clients.

You're at the doctor's office getting your knee examined after a bike crash. The doctor is testing the range of motion, causes a little pain and you call him names?
Interesting story.
I was getting ready to have my appendix out, when a doctor who was not my doc came in with a half dozen or so medical students. He, without asking my permission, dropped right into inviting his students to come touch my side as I was a "classic presentation." I told him, in the most direct terms I could, not to ****ing touch me. He continued, putting his hands on me. I knocked him out cold.

You're at a bank getting a business or house loan and you're comfortable talking to a stranger reviewing financial documents the way you speak to your friends?
I have this strange thing were I will only do business with someone I know or with someone who has been vouched for by one of my friends. They know up front who it is they're dealing with.

You never censor yourself?
Ask anyone who knows me well, I say what I mean, and if you dislike the terms or language used, then that's your issue.

So it is just about you and what you want.
No, this is about assuring that the liberties to be strange, offensive, humorous, dangerous, silly, weird or naughty, will be there after the current rising of the moral majority has gone back to bed.

I will say I can respect dirt's opinion as I use to be very similar....but I realized it was a selfish way to live...not knocking on your dirt...it's just how it went down for me...D

I think my thing is that I just worry about waking up one day in an America where its all homogenious, opinions are bad, thought is no longer encouraged.

You see some wildly out of control asshat going full tilt, and as a kid I would always wonder why it was that he/she was doing what she was doing. It made me think, and in turn is why I went into the kind of law I went into.

It could also have a lot to do with a massive head injury I sustained as a kid. Never had much of a filter after that, but my wife was the first person to pick up on that.

She understands, and we have a lot of private jokes, which are what make us who we are. But we also live very openly, very out in the air. That's just us.

I think there's a happy medium in this whole thing, but I suspect that there will never be an agreement on what that is. You want too many restrictions for my taste, I want too many beers for you to remain comfortable. Its a struggle, but its what makes this trip around the sun entertaining for me.

You really think that the monkeys who posted in this thread are in anyway supporting a homogenous society? You think they don't like to get trashed and make asses of themselves?

Would you agree that there are more appropriate places to do that than other places?

We can horse trade if you like...

I'll give you:
Churches/Houses of Worship
Preschools and Kindergartens
The Hospital
City parks on every other sunday.

In Return I'd like (as a place with no limit on being a douche):
Bike races
Sporting events
The bar
the mall

Yea, that's what they sometimes pay me for.

Its that middle ground thing I am talking about.
We're not making rules, we're making agreements.
You want certain things unfettered and pure, and I want other things nasty and corrupt.

Can't we all just get along?

You know, I don't really question your "right" to be an asshole.

I just think you're both ignorant and idiotic for doing so. Which is my right.

I guess I'm just one of those crazy people that thinks behavior is something that should change based on your social situation. I'll be raucous and nasty at the bar with my buddies. I'll tone it down a little in public out of basic respect and human decency. There's a time and an opportunity for both. It's not like I'm never afforded the opportunity to be an obnoxious prick with my buddies - I just don't drag it out into family situations.

In as much I just dislike the idea at places where I am paying the same to get in as your kid that I can't cut loose.

I'll give you an example of what I am taking issue with.

Last year I was at a race on the east coast at which we were all informed that either on the course or off the course if you're found to be using foul or offensive language,
No one forced you to attend if you didn't like the race rules.

More and more stadiums are creating family only sections heavily guarded by internet moderators.
Our hockey games are "family friendly" and they mean it.
We watched some guys in front of who snuck in a bottle of booze, and were sharing around phone-web porn, get kicked out. Fine by me.

Hey Dirt, you have this quote too I bet.
We want to be free! We want to be free to do what we want to do! We want to be free to ride. And we want to be free to ride our machines without being hassled by The Man. And we want to get loaded. And we want to have a good time! And that’s what we’re gonna do. We’re gonna have a good time. We’re gonna have a party!

In my many visits to Fenway Park (arguably some of the most obnoxious fans in all of sports), it seems that maybe 1 out of 100 people are assholes. Everyone else behaves themselves and acts civil. Problem is, 1% of 35,000 means you've got 350 people acting like tards, or a handful in every section. I haven't seen that behavior change too much in the 20 years I've been going to games.

That ratio goes way up in the bleacher seats though. :monkey:[/QUOTE
Yeah, upper deck seats can be pretty funny sometimes.
