i am stuck on what to buy, in reading the ccdb info they state the technology of other shocks types is inherently inferior due to the basic design (single vs dual tube). if the vivid is a single tube of the same design (is it the rs website is rather vague) and the ccdb info is correct is there really no comparison? I have no way to ride each option so hopefully someone who has can enlighten me.

Obviously Cane Creek's assessment of their own technology is completely unbiased

Not where I'd like
both are great shocks

the ccdb is just way more expensive

additionally you should have more than enough adjustability with the vivid. remember, more variables does not necessarily mean a better shock for your application (what bike is this going on btw?)

on a glory and I know the cane creek info is marketing my point was that if all other shocks are single tube there may be some truth. is the vivid definitely a dual tube type of shock? I can get a vivd brand new and cheap, i was looking to buy a used ccdb and do not even know what I would need to do as far as the bushings.

Most everything on the market these days is good or even great. It depends on how much you want to spend and how much you want out of your suspension. Some people can and cannot tell the difference between a DHX and a CCDB. Some people could set up a CCBD so poorly that it could preform worse than a Swinger 4-way.

Don't worry about bushings, Cane Creek and help you with that.

Cane Creek and Ohlins worked together to come up with what they thought was the best engineering available. Why didn't others do the same? Maybe they think something else is better, maybe they don't have the money, maybe that is not the market portion they are after?

I have not ridden a Vivid enough to say, but I really like the CCDB. But if you are looking for cheap, then the DB may not be for you.

Well said Doug. Both are great shocks. I have never owned a DB but have ridden one for a full day up in NJ. I own a Vivid. It’s a night and day difference than the DHX to me. Not the same with all like Doug said. Plus it’s much easier to setup right than a DHX. I would think you may not want to put a DB on a Glory if that is the bike you plan to put it on. I think you would have the same problem as most did putting on their Sundays. They found it to make the bike feel dead on the trail. Too much. The DB will work better on some designs where the Vivid may work better on others. If you want to save $$ get the Vivid and if you have the $$ to spend try out the DB and if it doesn't work you can get your $$ back out of it.

Good luck,

so is the vivid a dual tube design?
I don't think so; there was a thread here several weeks back that had a pic of a vivid that had been cut in half for viewing. It appears to be a more traditional De Carbon style [piston and shims].
Allthough the double barrel technically has piston and shims, it doesn't really use them. It' truely an orifice controlled damper.
I happen to have a one month old 8.5 by 2.5 CCDB that I'm putting up for sale in a few days, if that is the size needed.
They are all built the same way; no need to send them back to cane creek for tuning.

all shocks except the Db use the concept of DeCarbon's when it comes to "chambers" or number of internal ports

So all the shocks whether its the dhx,vivid,6way or 5th element are essential all very similar in mock up

I prefer the overall performance of my Pushed Roco over the CCDB.
In what ways?

Are the two so close to the same level of awesomeness, that you're being picky about "feel" rather than anything else?

I'm contemplating getting either a CCDB or going with pushing my Roco TSTr. If a Pushed Roco is pretty damn close, then I'll save the big $$$ and not get the CCDB.

A Romic is also a Twin Tube shock! Mine blew up and is being serviced by Romic as we speak. It's gonna be my back up shock once I get my CCDB.
