Well here is the deal. I might have the opportunity to pick up a new frame. My Ventana is very played. This new bike is purchased will last me throughout most of college is it holds up to continuous racing. I'm going to have a budget of roughly $1500. I know that eliminated alot of the things I would really like, but it's just how it's going to play out.

I am really considering the Transition BlindSide since it's not super expensive and seems really quality.

Should I look into something used or just man up?

Any ideas on frames would be great. Hopefully things will work out and my budget will increase a ton if I can get some things sold. Lets see what cha got!

What's wrong with the Ventana? Or are you just tired of it?
If the bike is tired, Ventana offers a repaint and replace all bearings for $300. Pretty much like getting a brand new bike.

They did up my 05 over the winter. Also cut out and replaced my non-drive side chainstay, which was bent pretty badly, and fixed the upper seat stay bearing seats, which had some play in them.

I replaced the bearings in my Morewood for 6.99.

But I'd have to agree with Buildyourown, if you still enjoy the frame and it's just a bit roughed up look into the repaint/bearing replacement. Prolly make it feel like a brand new frame, and certainly much cheaper than a new one.

No. The top one does not have a backside. It goes into the downtube.

I told the mechanic to tap it out thinking, oh it should be fine. He taps it out once, ****s it up. Second time, he taps it out way way way to big. Like, GIANT! Like a big bolt! So it's trashed in that dept.

I think those frames use ALOT of bearings, like 3-6 per pivot. I'm pretty sure every bearing you see, theres like 3 behind that one on each side. I was pretty amazed at how many bearings that frame uses.

For $300 that is a DEAL, I can't stress it enough. For all the bearings, and the repaint, that is cheap. Plus once they strip it if anythings wrong they don't seem like the "Intense" company to give you the reach around. It's a solid frame, I'd stick with it.

There is no way you can put a Blindside in the same category as a Ventana in terms of quality and performance. If you sold the Ventana to pay even close to retail on a Blindside, I think you'd be making a terrible decision.

Ventanas are tits.

The problem is, any bold big enough to fit into the threads which arn't even nice threads, the head of the bolt would get all up in the spider of my crank. I would really like to keep my Ventana, and they have a replacement deal as well, if it's good enough, I can return my frame and they give me a killer deal on a new frame.

Well I just got off the phone with them. The service they offer is great, but they don't really know if they can fix the ISCG mount. And also, I need the bike by the first of June by the VERY latest. She woman told me if I shipped it tomorrow I could get it back by May 26th. The turn around is a bit to long than expected so that is bad news bears for me.

In that case, I think the best thing that you could do would be to get a sinister R9 frame used. Good ones can be had used for not too much money, they are bullet proof and there's a great company behind them.

Yeah I'm in a very crummy situation and I'm not sure what to do. Either way this bike needs to be rebuild something bad. These parts on it have been on there for nearly 3 years and some parts over 4 years. I just really need to get something done to it.

Question is could you replace the bearings and get the frame stripped and painted somewhere else quicker.

Either way I'd get the frame refreshed and then spend the coin you saved on some new parts to hang on it.

It's not the paint and the bearings even though I do have some play in the linkage and I don't know where it is coming from. I have taken it apart and put it back together and the play won't go away. It's the ISCG mount that really bugs me because the back plate won't stay in place very well and it pushes forward into the chain ring causing it to rub very badly. I can zip tie it back but the zip ties will break every run.

The new frame with their trade in deal is in my price range, so that might be what I do, and then hopfully have enough cash to get a new fork and a few new parts.

Why blow money on paint when you can spend it on parts?

Last I checked the paint condition on my bikes never affected my riding.

You can helicoil that ISCG hole.

OR, just use two bolts

OR just use a bb mounted chainguide.

OR quit your whining and apply to beautician's school:D

My only real option is to use the BB mounted chainguide. I don't care about the paint, but the play in the linkage is worrying sometimes.

I explained above why I can't use just two bolts or why I can't heli coil it anymore.

Just JB weld the bolt in.......that should fix it once and for all!

I don't use the ISCG mounts for that exact reason, plus if you smack it hard enough you'll tear off the ISCG mount anyways. At least if it is sandwiched between the BB and frame it can rotate.

I'd just pay the $300, hope you get it back in time, save some $$$, and they'll fix the play in the linkage and re-paint it. That really is the best option. For turn around time of a month that isn't bad, you have to figure a week is wasted in shipping to and from them, plus their time to strip it, paint it, and refurb it. It's not that bad at all.

Yeah that is true, but I won't find out if they can even get in my frame by the time I move this summer. I leave for Woodward West early June and will need it before then and no later due to some other circumstances. If time was not a serious issue I would let them refurb my frame and make it nice and pretty.

It will all play out in the next few days as to what I can do and what my options are. I really want a Ventana, and I'm leaning towards a newer version for a few reasons including the wear on my frame right now, and the new versions have revised geometry.

Ummmm I will say it again....NUTSERT

Drop one in and crank it down using the original hardware...ISCG problem gone.
