this polygamy thing is getting way out of hand. So the government can just come in and take their children away? I don't get it. Now I understand them investigating the underage girl who called in about being raped and beaten by her 50 year old husband but how does that relate to taking away over 400 other children?

I'm trying to read as much as I can about it but maybe I'm missing something...D

You know what monogamy and bigamy have in common? They are both one wife too many! :bonk:

I dunno if there is a link to go along with this, but if someone is going to rape underage girls I don't want that person raising other kids who are going to learn his bad judgment. Plus, who can take care of 400 kids?!?!

You haven't done much reading on the FLDS idiots, have you? It's not exactly milk and honey for the kids, even the ones that don't end up getting raped by a 60 year old "husband" when they are 13...

What part of wrecking 11-13 year old snatch do you need to understand?

Leaving them there would be better?

ok so one kid reporting alleged abuse means all 400+ kids get taken away from their families? With no prior notice or warning? Is that really legal?...D

Did this happen in the US? If so, are you really asking if the gov't can come in and take away our family and property without warning or justification? Where have you been the last 10 years?

If this happened in canada then I have no idea. I don't know what te canadian gov't is like.

Read Under the Banner of Heaven, then return. It's lose-lose for the state of TX, but it's a bigger lose if they let this go on. They don't really face the same impediments Utah or AZ do.

You'll understand why removing the kids was the right decision.

If you'll recall, Texas is still a bit touchy after the whole Waco thing...if they have to storm another compound, they'll at least have the women and kids out this time.

Didn't you get the Memo on Waco from the feds? nothing happened, everyone was on vacation, punch was served. All the residents of the compound went on to manage Dairy Queens.

It's called google. You can find 10000 views on the same subject if you want.

If they hadn't gone in and done what they did and it turned out it was a big kid fvcking you'd be pissed about why they didn't do something. When it comes to religion the government is damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Not only are adults having sex and knocking up 13 year olds, but males from 14 and up are kicked out so the old guys have less competition.

If you are cool with that, then you have serious issues.

Asked if young people in polygamist sects even know it's against the law for someone to marry and have sex with a girl younger than 18, Brent replied, "They don't even talk about it at all in the church. The thing they teach in there is, 'W hat we tell you to do is what you should do, and you should never, ever question what we tell you to do.' They don't say anything about underage marriages and you're being married to this girl that's definitely not of age to be married. They just don't teach that at all."

ok I'm reposting this as it was lost due to a roll back last night on Rm:

This did happen in the states and my wife is following it pretty closely. She works for the Ministry of Health here in Canada. She works specifically for the Children and Family services branch and I asked her would they have acted the same way. She said typically no. They would investigate the claim and conduct interviews as well as general observations. Then decide what would be best course of action to take.

She said they would certainly not displace 400+ children based off a random phone call...that so far Texas hasn't been able to even prove that a girl from this group even made the call! I just think it's sh!tty that the government can come in and break up families at will and no seems to really care. Their religious beliefs really shouldn't matter.

I guess anyone can make a call accusing someone else of child neglect or endangerment and the government can just take their kids away without having any kind of solid evidence....D

Dude, does it matter who made the call when a 14yo girl is pregnant and "married" to a 50yo guy? I'm pretty sure the fetus in her belly is ample proof of wrongdoing. But then again, if you're into selling your daughter into sexual slavery in her early teen years and calling it okay under the auspices of religious freedom, than I highly doubt I will find an argument that works for you.

Don't mistake my intentions, I'm sure there is plenty going on wrong there I just think displacing all 400+ kids is doing more harm then good...especially with how the kids are being mentally conditioned to see the outside world..D

Let's say only 10 kids were being abused... every adult in this extremely tight community is an accessory to the crime. The idea that it was happening in only a few familes -- as the six interviewed today suggest -- doesn't excuse the lac of action by the other families.

Also, this isn't about polygamy, this is about child abuse, so your thread title is misleading.

Personally I would think that leaving the kids in a child molester cult would be more harmful.

Cults like this make me sick.

Y'know, the only difference between these idiots and the Catholic Church is that the Catholics have better lawyers and PR.

And, as Bill Maher pointed out, altar boys can't get pregnant...

Well that's a fairly wide sweeping, venomous and naive statement.

Yes Silver, we know... you hate religion and don't believe in God. We heard you the last 50 million times you stated it and made fun of people who do believe in god. Do you really have nothing better to do or are you a pissed off former alter boy?

Seriously dude, this is geting old. While I enjoy reading your more thought out posts the religion bashing lowers you to the level of a Nheyt. Stop it.

You know, you're actually right. I was wrong.

The big difference is that the FLDS people are going to end up in a civil court for a trial, instead of being whisked away to the Vatican to live comfortably.

What's a Nheyt, by the way? Google doesn't seem to know...and I don't either. I'm not a former altar boy either. I'm someone who had Calvinism drilled into him (and not in the traditional Catholic Priest way!) as a child. I've actually been conditioned to hate the Catholic Church as a boy, and that was before we found out that buggery of minors seemed to be as common among priests as marijuana use was among Rastafarians...

As for polygamy, anything outside of hetero, xtian norms is going to get some profiling. Polygamists can just get in line behind blacks, queers, people who voted for Ron Paul.

the women that they've had for "interviews" have had a creepy Stepford Wives kinda quality... sat there, said "we love our children", and when asked what was the minimum age that girls were allowed to marry, the response was... "we love our children".

Don't most religions say the same thing. You have to do as I say and take it on faith that I am right, if you don't you'll burn in hell for eternity.
That said if some idiot wants 5 wives who are over 18 then I say let him. If the women are under 18 then there is a problem and in this country we call that rape.

Hilarious episode. I hear the one on Scientology is equally spot-on and amusing.

Sorry I don't have more to offer in your quest to understand Polygamy.
