I picked up some 510s at sea otter and am going to start riding flats again. I am looking for a good set of platforms, something as low profile as possible (and not those dumb fly paper ones) preferably with bushings instead of bearings and with a good pin set up. So far I am looking at the straitlines and the new atomlabs.

the wellgo mg-1 are about my all time favorite flats right behind the wellgo b-27.

the mg-1:
stupid light
pretty strong
small/mid sized
only problem i ever had with them was i knocked some pins out

the b-27
a little bigger
just don't die ( i have beat the snot out of them)
a little more grip
not as light

Yep, and they work even better with longer pins around the outside of the pedal.
I would agree with both of these guys.

I am currently using Azonic A-frames and have been very happy with them for the last 2 years. But they suck if you are riding in snow and ice.

I rode bullcrew's 26's and those are super nice too

Either the straitline or aircorps. Amazing pedals, kinda spendy but totally worth it. I have a few sets of mag pedas but there all a little iffy, mag is a lot more maleable than al, I've had problems with distorting where the bearing sits inside. I'd consider running them as a race pedal but 100-140 grams off your pedals won't make a difference in the ride since you should be in contact with them except while cornering or falling. I've switched a few sets around and can say comfort over weight in this case for sure.

Minor threadjack: For those of you with MG1s, how durable would you say the body and pins are? I have ripped a number of pins out of my last pairs of pedals (Axiom Roadgap flats and such) and in a number of cases have permanently damaged the holes and even bent the pedal body. How do they hold up? The alternative is some Straitlines for twice the price and a 200g or so weight penalty.

26s are nice, but they've got a slightly thicker profile then you can find out there. I dig my syncros mental magnesiums, they've had some pretty rough rides on tunnel, as well as getting smashed into rocks around here and they've held up pretty amazingly, no play or rough spots in the bearings.

But they do have bearings, and they're decidely concave. Also, they'll give you worse pedal bite then anything i've ever seen. With 510's they would probably be too sticky for my taste.

I heard rumors that 2 historically significant, neigh, paradigm shifting Northeastern-based brands are possibly about to bring 2 divergent, yet super-ballin USA made pedals to market.... Just a rumor, of course....

loren, i've been riding straitlines on my hardtail for awhile and i have nothing but great things to say. i'll bring them next time we ride if you want to try them out, they're super sick pedals though. let me know how those 5.10s are, i might consider going back to flats too eventually because i'm really starting to believe the hype around those shoes.

Rode them around for a couple hours today on the MG1s, and WOW they are AMAZING. I think I am going to be on flats most of the time this season, except for racing and more XC type rides.

I will believe that when I see it SD...

I am sure something could come of it, but I would not hold my breath. BTW, if we are talking about the same company, they need to work on production/delivery of current product.

am i the only one that says sunline v1's ?

Machined body with traction pyramids for extra grip with or without pins.

Included set screw traction pins for additional traction when needed.

Large machined chromoly spindle.

Sealed ball and needle bearings instead of DU bushings for smooth feel.

Concave body for better feel and traction.

10 extra replacement pins included.

Weighs 580 grams per pair.

The profile is kind of tall, I want the DU bushings, I don't care how smooth it runs i care about not blowing up my pedal. And I like the pins that go in from the back of the pedal so you can't chowder up the bolt head.

atomlab trailkings, so easy to rebuild, pins are nice and long and hex screw in from the bottom.

i'd like to try the mg-1s though, i've only heard good things about them so far
