What happened to the buy and sale forum or the NW thread for that mater?

I am not sure what the NW thread was, but I had posted the question about the B&S thread.
I got this reply via PM from a mod:
"Hey -

The head monkey has requested that all buying and selling be done in the classifieds. We have added a feature where you can search for localized items.

Lots of little reasons for this change, not the least of which is trying to centralize all buying & selling, as well as being able to take a hard line, "No selling in the forums" approach without exception.

Sorry for the inconvenience
."

Sounded like a reasonable answer so I deleted my thread.

...and nobody goes there!
Since Ridemonkey changed the format I've not sold anything that I have ever listed there.
Well that section gets several hundred thousand page views per month, maybe you need to post better pics with the ads or something? Obviously posting your stuff in the forums where there is no competition for buyers is going to be advantageous, but not acceptable.

Ok! I was looking for it listed as a forum. I never once looked at the top of the screen right beside Forums and Photos! Dah! Guess that's what I get for not being active on the site for so long.

Nope.

http://www.ridemonkey.com/classifieds/

We just want stuff posted in the appropriate place.
STUPID... Yes I said it... Stupid Stupid Idea...

Before you get all butt hurt I buy and sell lots of things on the net, mostly car related things. From my experience the only way to go is in a LOCAL sales forum. I will ship things sold on Ebay because of the customer ratings and Paypal security. Anything less over the net is to much of a hassle and liability. I could tell 10000 stories of people getting ripped off buying AND selling.

Buying things face to face and not having to scan 100 ads for the local sellers/buyers so you can buy things IN PERSON is very very worth it.

In the car forums I frequent there is a monthly buy/sell thread and a monthly Want to buy thread stickied. It keeps things current and then you can make sure that wheel/tire/part is in good working order before you hand your hard earned money over. I don't think i am alone when I say if I am going to find things nationally I will use E-bay. If I want things locally I will try to find others in the local community with parts of sale. Guess RideMonkey doesn't give to craps about that though or just lacks thought. You can dangle thread counts and yadda yadda around all day.

Put a NW FS thread and quit being a bad monkey. :monkeydance:

I agree. I liked the local forum. Its easier. I like to buy and trade locally. Its also easier to haggle over the price when the guys in the same town as you, its more neighborly to cut them a deal. Anyone got an Intense M3 for $25 and an M1?

So in the classifieds, specify that your item is located in the PNW. There is an option for that. Then search for stuff using the location dropdown in the search form. Easy. Eventually we will add a link in the PNW forum that will bring up PNW specfic results to save you a step.

putting your ideas infront of user ideas is stupid
This was rep from DesuL. Obviously, I have given great thought to regionalizing the classifieds. If the system I have described does not work, I would just love to hear, in detail, what is wrong with it.

Also Desul, just because you and a few others think that you should be able to post for sale ads in the forums does not mean that you represent the "ideas" of the entire user base of Ridemonkey.

So like a sticky thread or something like that that is basicly a database query of the classifieds using PNW as the filter?
That would be great!!!
Would solve the previous problem of cross posting the classifieds AND posting in our own little PNW classifieds. You would get the added bonus of exposure on a national (international?) level.

That is right. I would do it now but the classifieds software doesn't support browsing by that query. I hope to get that implemented in the next couple of months.

Desul:
As stated before, if you post an ad you can always state "LOCAL SALES ONLY". That should take care of it.
Yup I was being a dick. I apologize.

Your right. my opinion was a bit over the top. I guess for the web tracking they may need all selling in one forum. I still think a local FS thread is a safer way to sell.

Sorry for ruffled feathers ill go sit in the corner now

No worries :bonk:
They are working to give us something more than we have now.
Sounds like it might take a bit but it also sounds like what we are asking for at the same time.
Yah I just had the ASSHOLE button stuck on my keyboard. It happens from time to time when I type without thinking.

I have seen A TON of people ripped off on forums and I would hate to see it start happening here. I am sure it does happen from time to time.
