Tiger Mountain's mountain bike trails always open on April 15, and despite the snow, will be open on time this year. I confirmed this with DNR today.

DNR reports 6" of snow on the Preston, and the connector trail from the upper parking lot is closed until the bridge can be replaced.

Brian and the BBTC crews did another work party last weekend and cleared the remaining blow-downs off of the NW Timber Trail. I'm not sure about the Preston, since there was too much snow for them to get up there.

Check out the BBTC Trail Guide for more deets:

You won't find much mud up there, just lots of water when it's raining. Brian and the BBTC trail crews have done a great job of armoring the tread and diverting the flow of water off the trail (it's still wet, it just flows across the trail now, rather than down it). Still more to to, but it's a lot better than it was a few years ago. Normal tires should be just fine-tastic for ya, but that plastic bag is probably a good idea.

I know that, kudos to them! I think I've done more days of trail work there in the past few years than just riding. But, the swampers would work better in the snow!

All the more reason to get rid of the seasonal closure. Let Harvey Manning roll in his grave while we rip the trails up.

I was there yesterday... there is still just enough snow to make it more slippy than just mud... and some of the trails have blow downs and wash outs... it's doable but I had more fun at Tokul later on

Yeow. You guys have low standards.... my grandma could do that route.
I can only speak for myself... I havn't done much riding since Dec 15th along the "...honey my nooksack is cold..."

Just snowboarding a lot... in 3 states... including Alaska... so for me it is a small victory to be doing any riding out of the city...

if your Grandma can do it more power to her... in fact I say love your Mom and the Grandma while you still have them... I miss mine. Anyway...

Not pointed at you Ballard, I thought it was funny that Monkeybiz thought that was a big day. My grandma's are all long dead btw.

And, I think it's also funny to hear the collective "they" when referring to trail work. Who's they?

If crushed rock helps get the DNR to keep the trail open all year and Tiger lovers off other local trails, I'm all for it.

I personally disagree with your second statement on several levels but I'm only going to address your comment on one level. What makes Preston Trail at Tiger so much fun to ride is because of the roots, small drops and it's generally a great trail to ride at high speeds due to the natural trail features. I would love it if Tiger was open year round but lets face it, the trail is only at a 3% grade and if the whole thing is graveled I might as well ride the Burke Gilman Trail. I would rather Tiger remain seasonal if the "fun" factor remains rather than year round use with the entire trail graveled.

I was hoping you could tell us who "they" are? Otherwise I think Sinister17 would have used they're club name. He could have just assumed it was BBTC since they have regular scheduled work parties but then again it could be DNR driven or possibly an equestrian club since horses are allowed on that trail.

I weezed (really) my way up today and found snow only near the top. Saw some riders turn away because of the snow... they missed out. There were only 2 blowdowns left when I road and I took care of one so there is only one blowdown remaining on Preston. The trail is in super condition for this time of the year. Looks like all the rock work should pay off and help the trails dry out better as soon as all the snow melts and the rain stops. No it is not wheel chair accessable. Thanks to all who have put any time into the Tiger Mt. trails, the trail durability is really showing and none of the fun is missing. Excellent!!!

Good to hear the trails are looking good. Guess I'll have to give it a go tomorrow on the big bike since the trail bike is in between mods.

Some gravel was used in BBTC work parties to address isolated spots like mud holes and in balls of smaller roots. Gravel wasn't placed in long stretches, so don't worry that the whole trail will end up graveled. AFAIK, this was all on the upper stretch of Preston and it didn't change the feel of the trail in any meaningful way. Hopefully the winter rest & snow have packed down the gravel.

The goal of BBTC work parties is to make the trails more resilient, stop water from flowing down the trail, and to preserve the character of the trail as much as possible. The goal is NOT to dumb down the Preston.

Some of the checkdams installed in the past year or two have added nice new opportunities for catching a small bit of air.

Thank you!! That is exactly wanted/needed to hear.

There's still some long patches of snow on the trail for the first 1/4 mile or so. Then the next mile was pretty much a creek today.
