Somewhat piggy-backing off of stosh's recent garden thread, show off some nice pics of your landscapes.

I'll start. Our shade garden path (left and right sides) -

Nice work on your garden.
I would like to do something like that around our house. Do those plants stay green for more than 3/4 of the year? I know Hostas have to be cut down in the winter.

we built a handstacked wall starting about 9 years ago. Acutally Mr. GG did most of the work. :cupidarrow: It's all local rock. What was there before was a really nasty overgrown terrace of weeds and junipers. We ripped it all out, and built this instead:

wow, i am impressed with all the RM garden skills. Maybe you guys are just more creative than me, or maybe i am just broke and can't afford building materials and plants.

Nice work, geargrrl! That looks really nice.

I really don't have the time, patience or desire for landscaping. I pay a landscaper to keep my yard tidy (1.1 acres).

Yes, zone 5.

Mr. GG is a geologist and we have a love affair with rocks at our house. Most of the granite was collected from construction sites withing 2 miles of our house, with the occasional rock picked up on road trips. The rule of thumb was if the two of us couldn't pick it up....

It's a true labor of love. He'd sit out there and stare at the pile for hours sometime, going for the right fit. There's no mortar. It took about two years to build.

As for the flowers, it's probably a very bad thing that this place
http://www.towerflower.com/ is about 2 miles from the house. It's not your run of the mill garden center oh no. It's a better than sex garden center, very dangerous to the wallet.

Funny thing. Rock building is a big thing around here but most places hire it out. We went to "Rock Placing Company" looking for ideas. $100 a rock for stair treads. You have got to be kidding me. The sales guy was all " I can have my crew build that for you in 4 days... for $4000" No thanks. For us that was missing the point.

Is Costa Rica still a cheap place to live?
Cheap place to live and cheap labor. Life is at a slower pace and projects take longer to finish. Its hard to find skilled contractors. Real estate prices are out of control in some places and anything that is imported (cars/electronics/etc) is very expensive/overtaxed.

Did you build that yourself? Fabulous!!
Designed but built by pond specialist. I did build a mini rainforest model with live moss/stones/real waterfall etc when I was in middle school for a state contest though :busted:

Lots of big koi (ie BS's favorite garbage fish - carp) of various varieties. There is one that has been laying on its side on the bottom of the pond for about a month now - thinks he's a flounder or maybe its sick with a swim bladder problem? Maybe I should throw him in the backyard for BS, he'd appreciate it...

Here are some shots I just took (those others are very old), its overcast today:
