Considering firing up the idiot box that never gets looked at so I contact Cox and they say I owe them reconnect fees from every time I've moved. I say they're out of their mind. Talk to "The Supervisor" who's a moron as well. End up hanging up on him.

Anyone happy or unhappy with Direct TV?

I have it.
Big storms screw it up, but being in the desert, you'll be fine.
I find the DirecTV service is much more reliable if you have something go down and have to have a guy come out.
Prices are comparable.

All in all though, I wish I didnt even own a TV.

I've had it for 8 years. No complaints. For me it is much cheaper than cable, especially since Time Warner wanted to charge me $300 to install cable..

Don't fall for their add-ons. Their HD package ain't all that and I have regular Direct TV and it looks fine on my energy sucking massive plasma.

good service, though.

I have had it for a few weeks so far, got the dish on a tripod so i can set it up anywhere i park the race trailer, the only reason i chose direct is you can piggy back satellite internet through the same dish.

i have every option/channel and feature known to man plus HD and DVR

Scheduled an install for monday and all of the hardware/install costs were free as well as a bunch of movie channels for 3 months and my first bill was to be $44. Today I notice a $25 hardware charge to my checking account. I call to question this nonsense only to be put into a loop where I have to bark commands into my phone and finally get disconnected.

What the hell have I done to myself?!

I had the same fee but they told me about it up front, Small price considering all the equipment and labor they did to install. I have the dish, 2 regular receivers and a DVR, plus all the coax they installed

cable/satellite companies.... *shudder*
:banghead: :bonk: :imstupid:  :poster_oops:  :help: :dead: :wtf:

I believe those are the appropriate smilies. It's been Comcast cable for me although DirecTV is always a very large temptation. Fios TV and internet are next on my agenda when I move back to Seattle.

The six months I and my roommates had directv were an awful experience. If it was raining, windy, or snowing, we got bad reception. My girlfriend had it and her neighbors could change her channels. Make sure your setup guy programs your stuff correctly. Girlfriend was charged to have them come out and fix it.

It is well worth it to take few minutes adjust the aim of your dish. Just bring up the signal meter and then make small adjustment to the dish until you get the highest possible signal. It really makes a big difference.

:stupid: We've had it for 2 1/2 (HD too) years and it's a lot cheaper than Time Warner. Our HD goes out during storms, but the regular satellite seems to work fine.

Sorry I didn't get to this sooner... had DTV - Hate them. Still battling them 8 months later.

It's like talking to a senile old man - every time you talk to them it's like you've never had that conversation...

Of course there is the alternative - Cox suckers. We had an issue the other day and called. We were swapped around a few times so the wife asked for manager. She talked to a dude who was totally rude and abrasive and he hung up on her... she of course had gotten all his info, so we called back. Talked to a new person and guess what - no manager by that name. So one of their employees lied and pretended to be a manager.

Not a smart thing to do to my wife...

Digital Cable is the shizzle. We used to have DTV but the storms would always make it act funny, and something would ALWAYS go wrong with it. We have had digital cable for a long time and it's flawless.

Up and running fine since the tech knew what he was doing. Had to talk to 2 people to get the $25 credited (Should take 2 weeks...).

It slows down my DSL to a crawl though. Stealing WiFi from the neighbors is so much faster... Do I need to throw a filter on the line? Why do I have DSL?

I would cancel your DSL and maybe put a repeater closer to the neighbors if it's faster. Save the dough and surf all you want.
