So, I have smoked my rear wheel on my single speed. While its being rebuilt, I get the hankering for a new set for commuting and the like. I have a bunch of Paypal money from Ebaying stuff myelf, so I figure what the heck, go find a set on the Ebay. I findbidandwin a set advertised as "very nice" with some still functional rubber on them, and eagerly await their arrival.
So they get here today, and both hubs are as crunchy as a bowl of corn flakes before milk, and the rear has a big hop init and desperately needs a dishing.
Since I regard all Ebay as sold as is, I am sucking it up, and will rebuild these also...and continue to live beautifully.

I did leave the b@stard some pretty negative feedback though...

not to be a dick, but when dealing with buying used parts online, ask questions first. specific questions (especially when dealing with a single item). if you're not sure what to ask, consult a friend who is a mechanic (ridemonkey sorta counts).

Well, very good is very good. If I put a wheel on sale that is "very good" condition, I would make sure the hub spun smoothly, and the wheel true was in .5 mm tolerances.

Excellent it would be about the same, but with a lot less use.

If the wheel sucks, mediocre condition. I have a set of old Chris King - 517's which I am going to sell as VG for hubs and mediocre as wheels. But I am going to rebuild the hubs first.

I have bought several parts that were in very different condition than advertised. I sent them all back and demanded my money back.
"As is" is one thing. Claiming something is in great condition when it's not, is fraud.

I am waiting to see if he responds to my negative feedback...honestly, as I said, I bought them, I will suck it up. If he wants to bitch about neg. feedback, then the game is on.

I Googled him, he is a realtor...maybe I will send Partsbara over to see him.

Pay pal dispute?

Despite what others may say, it's worked for me many times. The only time I have not recovered my money was when I waited too long.

you mean paypal? i'd highly recommend this ie reporting him to paypal - paypal will suspend his account until the matter is resolved (ie you return the goods, he refunds your money). in no way does "very good" = "crap"

Wheels usually unless really high end, or brand new I won't buy on Ebay. I had bought a set of Single tracks on Ringle hubs and they were described as a 9 out of 10. I got them and they were like a 4 out of 10. Hubs were great, rims were toast. I felt the same way you did and demanded my money be refunded. Like build said.........as is is one thing, but saying they are in great shape and they are beat is another.

That is probably why when I sell things I always show as many pics as I can, and I list everything as is. If it was junk I'll list it as junk. I usually won't sell junk though, especially used stuff. It's not worth the back and fourth with a buyer, shipping issues, and refunding if you just do it right the first time.

I have bought wheelsets off Ebay before, and always had great luck. Matter of fact, I think I have Ebay wheels on all my bikes right now (And a set waiting to be rebuilt...).
I have had great luck on all my Ebay purchases.
This is, as our fathers all surely told us at one time or another, a good learning experience...

i got neutral feedback from a buyer a couple of weeks ago. here's how it went down:

find a listing for a rare LP at a great price. win the auction, money is sent that day.

2-3 weeks elapse, and i send a note via ebay to the seller asking what's up. i get a response from the son that his mom's been in the hospital, so be patient.

another 2 or so weeks go by. i use ebay to find the seller's phone number, call it, and leave a message asking about the record. that day, i got a voice mail saying they are sorry, blah blah blah, will refund my payment if i want.

i call back, again get an answering machine, and tell them that i can sit tight longer, and i'd rather have the LP than the money back. no reply.

2 weeks later (for a total of 7 weeks since i sent $), the LP randomly appears in my mail.

i leave neutral feedback:
"took FOREVER to get, but it finally came. communication could have been better" and his response:
"sorry my mom;s cancer got it the way of your lp delivery"

and get this feedback left for me:
"no understanding of medical situation. typical"

i spotted this in their ad listing:
FOR THE MOST PART I LEAVE SAME FEEDBACK I GET . I LIKE TO LEAVE POSITIVE FEEDBACK ….
this is what's wrong w/ the ebay feedback system. ebay itself doesn't care about trying to police it, and as a buyer you are totally subject to arbitrary crap. if you paid the stated amount in a timely manner, you should absolutely get positive feedback as a buyer.

here was another exchange:
NON à éviter. objet non envoyé,pas le temps... Remboursé suite interv.paypal
his response:
did not care about cancer operation's to my mom..very selfish person
and feedback:
Negative feedback rating bad buyer don't waste your time didn't care about cancer operation
after he told me to grow up, i told him i was sorry about his mom, but that had nothing to do w/ his obligations as a seller. what a fvcktard.

^^^^ Wow. Blaming his laziness on his mom's cancer is terrible. I'm sure it is a devastating situation but, sorry... that's life. You still have to take care of obligations.

I pay with credit card so that when ebay and paypal don't do anything, I can charge back. I've never had to do it, threatening them (ebay and paypal) with it usually takes care of things. And I don't take credit cards so some scammer doesn't do it to me though. What a minefield.

well 'nuggs607' is a pretty established ebay seller. still a PITA though.

my only negative feedback i've ever received was left by mistake, and the person who left admitted that they intended to leave it for a different buyer. ebay wouldn't remove it.

I thought the buyer and seller could mutually agree to remove all feedback related to an item?

well to be honest, i think it's a good idea. how is a buyer at fault if they uphold their sole obligation, which is to pay in a timely manner?

just joking in that last reply. red rabbit is my neighbor. but when it comes to anything over the internet it's always a gamble, especially with money. a lot of folks have given some good advice on here. if you want new tires go to the store and get a receipt.

What a scumbag. He's got time to list an item and collect the money, but doesn't have time to communicate or ship, then blames his mother's cancer? Maybe he'll get Ebay cancer.
i also noted that while he didn't have time to send out items already paid for, he did have the time to post new items for sale.

I think it was about a month ago...Ebay's idea for trying to discourage retaliatory neg feedback from sellers:crazy:..D
Yeah, I think they did that when they changed the pricing policies and stuff.

In any case, naruls, that's lame. If you can't ship things and do what you're supposed to then refund or remove the auctions. I am a generally understanding person, but 7 weeks?

It's a lot more complicated than that. Sometimes bidders will bid even though their location is one the seller doesn't ship to...or the buyer will take to long to pay ie. 2+ weeks...or the bidder doesn't read the auction terms and assumes the sellers accepts so and so or will automatically do something...it's the whole reason why my sales have slowed do to almost nothing.

Ebay is just making it increasingly difficult for sellers to earn a decent living...D
