P.S. I wrote this but the thread was deleted, so here it my response
Jesus, why I am getting bashed?

It's just one of those things where the group somehow went from 6 close friends to 16 friends and friends of friends. I'll probably just bring a vid camera, stay sober, try to keep people in line, and start filming if the sparks start flying.

Props and +rep to those who gave serious answers to admittedly a "stupid request for information"

also, if tent is closed off, do they have the right to search the tent?
This is a situation about context. You are thinking about drinking in an underage, dorm room, house party situation; where it is obvious to the authorities there is drinking going on but proving it is key.

In a campground, no one cares what you do in your campsite. In some ways, campgrounds suck because most people who go camping don't want to be around anyone. But if they can hear you or even worse, you trespass into their campsite, then there is a problem.

The park rangers don't have the authority to check your tent and they probably know if they poke their nose in the wrong site, it will get shot off (literally). But they will be glad to call the local authorities if they have to.

If you are low-key about your drinking and keep it under wraps, unless you are in a dry county, you should be good. But if the noise level or the rowdiness is going to be a problem, just be prepared to sleep on the side of the road.

Thanks for the response. I deleted the thread just because it was getting too preachy. We're just going to keep the noise level down and try to keep all open containers out of sight / in the tents.

I'm all for drinking and camping - but not at a campground. There are a lot of BLM / primitive spots that are better anyway and you can do whatever the hell you want.

Well that sucks.

I didn't read that thread, but I bet a lot of those getting preachy also did questionable things when they were under-age. Ya know that whole glass houses and stones thing.

I agree about noise. Keep it down and it shouldn't be an issue.

To me the issue was bringing a keg to a public campground. I could see a few guys going camping and drinking, but a keg means a ton of folks, and being underage is not a smart idea. Plus, I don't know about your state laws, but getting busted for underage drinking around here means a loss of license plus a hefty fine.

UNDERAGE DRINKING LAWS -- TEXAS
*Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine up to $500
*Alcohol awareness class <-- you have to pay for this.
*8 to 40 hours community service
*30 to 180 days loss or denial of driver's license
