They don't usually have it taped off until the Saturday of race weekend, but they generally will let you know before the previous weekend what trails it's going to be on.

So I guess the answer is yes, unless they don't tell you what trails it's on, then you'll just have ot ride everything to cover your bases, lol

Womens categories usually have like around 1/10th the amount of riders mens do. At alot of races I've been to, the younger girls (like 13-18) are starting to podium alot more frequently too, partially cause there are more coming out to race. With only like 10 girls in a class, splitting it up would be almost pointless, not to mention the prize quality, if there are any prizes, would be split in half as well. Prizes certainly aren't everything, but it's something to think about.

I never raced at Diablo before so I got a question,

Do they run all classes on the same course or do they have separate courses for Open/pro, Am and Intro?

They run all classes on the same course, but there are go-arounds for the most difficult obstacles.

There was only one go-around last year though, it was a section of the course in Dom #1.

Other than that it wasn't really necessary to have any for the rest of the courses as there weren't any particularly sketchy sections.

Cool, thanks,
I am not sure what class I would enter (op/pro or AM) but if I race AM, I will be curious to know how my time stacks up to the op/pro times.

DIABLO FREERIDE PARK GEARS UP FOR OPENING ROUND OF DOMINATION SERIES

(Vernon, New Jersey) Diablo Freeride Park, Americas Premier Mountain Bike Park, is excited to welcome racers from near and far to ROUND 1 of the 2008 Diablo Domination Series on May 17th-18th. The first race in the series has traditionally played host to a number of top racers who use this weekend for training and as an opportunity to enjoy the entire trail network that Diablo has to offer. The first Domination race will premier the use of Freelap timing systems installed on the race course for personal timing use during practice sessions.

With the season fully underway, trail crews have been hard at work improving the extensive Diablo trail network, revamping jumps and landings, and adding new obstacles to the parks growing number of innovative designs. New features to the park include a massive 16’ x 24’ ParkLogic built wallride as well as many other slopestyle inspired elements new for 2008.

Racers and non-racers alike are reminded that the entire mountain is open for freeriding during the race and that minimal trail closures will exist as a result of the weekend’s events.

Don’t forget, the 2008 US Open of Mountain Biking is only one week away with many of the world’s top athletes attending to battle it out for the coveted US Open title.

I've never been out of the NC, VA area with my rig. What kind of dirt do you all have up there? Don't say "brown.":disgust: I'm headed up to the Open next week, and i'm wondering what tires to put in my stable. I'm racing DH and DS. I have tubed, and tubless rims on the wall. I want to bring a set of wet, and dry meats for each bike. What hooks up best at Diablo?

The soil is pretty sandy (if you can find dirt that is) mostly things are pretty rocky (rocks of the big and bolderous variety) personally I like blue grooves or nevagals pending on the weather....and if I'm not mistaken isn't this course one of the flatter/rockier ones?

I run Maxxis Minion 2.5" 3C's in the wet & dry, no problems with either.

Pack your DH tubes or run tubeless, there's alot of rocks at Diablo & this course has a fair amount of them up top.

Yeah, it's kind of flat up top with plenty of rocks, then get's a bit steeper about 1/2 way down.

You can't go wrong with Maxxis Minions.

I am new to the east coast and I rode my minions on opening day which was pretty wet, and I had great traction on some wet off camber rocks and in the "soil"...then last Sunday I rode them in dryer and faster conditions and they held solid traction then too. Rain or shine that's what I'll use.

As far as this course, i have no idea what the course is, I've been to diablo to ride 2 times now but have had no idea what trails I've been on, but I did get on some hard ones and the minions worked great.

It's a pretty fun course, I rode it last year for my first race having only been on a DH bike for 2 weeks prior & had a good time.

It will be even better this year since the top was fresh cut last year & all the rocks didn'rt get uncovered until end of the day Saturday, then it rained Saturday night & made them a mud covered, slippery mess for Sunday morning practice, it was my first time riding DH in the mud & I fell about 15 times on my first Sunday morning practice run, lol

The course is a bit of pedalling off the start, then alot of rocks & turns, then two chutes in the middle, then a off camber rooty section, then accross a ski trail, into another little kinda' off camber chute, then across another trail & into the US Open berms, then a ski trail sprint to the finish.

I got mine at Speedgoat.com

Go-ride.com also had them, and Universalcycles.com.

Go Ride has the lowest price that I found for the 3C's ($48), but the others might match them. I ended up going through Speedgoat because they offer free shipping on orders over $100 and I live in PA and knew the shipment would arrive quickly.

Minion 2.5 3C's are a bit hard to come by....where do you guys stock up on em? PM if you don't want to say in the forum.lol
