Funny, I've met more California refugees in my past 3 years in Salt Lake than any other ethnic group...of course, most are from the hell that is the greater LA-SD metro area. ;)
Hey hey easy now. Oh, and I didnt know that Californians were an ethnic group. Haha cool. Hope you enjoy Cali and our overpriced gas!

Out of curiosity, why are u leaving? I'm actually moving to SLC in a month. GF is going to the U for grad school. I am actually pretty stoked. I live in a great place now, Burlington, VT but am excited to ride some new trail and experience a different place. Yeah, Yeah I know the mormons but there's no crime and I don't drink like I used to so no worries there....
Lived in Salt Lake/SL 'burbs for most of my life. I hate winter. Mormons are irritating. I like booze and beach. You're tripping if you think SLC has low crime. Change is good.

Anyway, we got in early yesterday evening. Both cars made it fine :-)shakefist:, bitches), though Caitlin managed to miss the 680 exit south and get lost. And she grew up here. Anyway, observations I hadn't picked up on during previous visits:

-Booze. Oh thank God booze. There is wine...and liqour...in THE GROCERY STORE!!! I can get Bombay Sapphire for under $40!!! MWAHAHAHAHA.
-I <3 Trader Joe's with all my heart.
-Food is no more expensive than Utard land, and with much cheaper alcohol prices grocery store trips should cost less.
-I no longer have mountains or an awesome grid system to orient myself. Probably investing in either a crackberry or GPS unit for orientation purposes.
-People here can drive.
-The Bay Area is massive.
-Apple owns the city of Cupertino.
-I can't wait to get down to SC and out of the 'burbs/my GF's moms house.
-Urban planning is a giant lol.
-Sacramento sucks.

Oh yeah, Reno? What a goddamned sh!thole. I was hit up for money 3 times there, and I'd only stopped for half an hour. Close to mountains - yes. Needs to burn down - very yes. I-80 through the Sierra Nevada is as bad as a dirt road.

Utah is full of timid oblivious vagina drivers. Salt lake isn't so bad, but as you get farther away it becomes worse.
Does CA inspect treadwear as part of the registration process? I don't want to buy new rubber for the vw.

screw that, invest in a decent map and use the rest of the money for booze. maybe it's just that i have a good sense of direction, but i think that gps units are absolutely unnecessary in cars.

You don't understand - MEN have an innate ability to orient themselves. So blue should probably get a GPS.

:D
then i think i have a bunch of friends who are eunuchs...

one of my best friends who i've known since middle school still doesn't know how to get to my house. it's sad.

They do ding you, but my vw was originally sold in Santa Cruz so I'm in the clear. My goal is to avoid registering the BMW for as long as possible, its smog testing abilities are concerning at best. Browsing the web on a blackberry is irritating, btw:

You're moving to Santa Cruz?

Have fun.
I went there today.

Incredibly disappointing. I was expecting something epic...I guess I expected too much. Just another mediocre burrito place, like 90% of the rest. The Rico burritos they sell in grocery stores in SLC are much better, not to mention my favorite lard-laden taco greasehole...

I also went to SF for the first time the other day. Amazing city, I'd like to live there at some point. Haight-Ashbury was a bit of a letdown, but everything else was awesome (even In-N-Out at the Wharf...yes, I went there).

Fixed. For East Coast version
i've got a funny story relating to that. i was at a party up at school with a couple friends who were born and raised in vermont and we almost ended up getting in a fight with some 5 foot tall kid from new jersey who was getting pissed at us for saying that jersey sucks. apparently new jersey is better than vermont due to the greater amount of snatch one can score down in the dirty jerz. he did not appreciate it when i mentioned the idea of quality over quantity.

Come here where I live and see if you still think that. 90% of the streets don't even have names here.:disgust:
On a semi-related note, Honda want $130 to update the software on our car navigation. F*cken thieves.

Congrats Blue.

How about you stop unpacking for a 1/2 day and go ride some new trails.
This thread will still be here when you get back, and likely better then ever.

All I've got is my road bike currently, sold my last MTB before I left SLC :(

Hopefully I can nail down a decent job in SC that will enable me to buy a new one ASAP...

edit: Why is it my threads draw in my ignore listees like flies to honey?
