Ugh...The rails are too wide, still gonna hold mud and the pins suck. I can COMPLETELY tell the difference between pins with threads and smooth pins, whether dowel shaped or coned. The plastic MAY be slippery enough for a little while that mud will slide off...but not likely. Especially after they've been all scratched up with muddy shoes full of rocks, etc.
But I also foresee(like...immediately) color combos with the whole Colorways thing...
Wonder what kind of hit those things will take...

eh. Kinda anti-climatic. Maybe Apple will start making pedals soon too. They can come in all sorts of "flavors".

Jewelry for bikes is lame.
I'm less interested in the "changing out the colors to match my kit" aspect and more interested in the idea that the pedal becomes a modular, serviceable platform (assuming that's the promise)

When I saw it, I immedialy thought... ok, I can completely beat my pedal to hell and all I have to do to fix it is order up a new lexan (or whatever) piece. Might not even have to take the pedal off the bike!

more info would be great!

There's only one thing I can tell by looking at them.

They're better than Crank Bros pedals.

guys the weight on these things is seriously out of hand, it is insane. And the interchangable plastics isnt just for colors, its so that exactly as Dump said: you can blow the crap out of your pedal and get a new one for the cost of some plastics. I am so stoked on them!

I think I would be a lot more excited about these if there was so much talk about it being a gear box. I feel like the kid who's grandma ships the annual christmas sweater in an Playstation box.

Expensive plastic you mean. Have you ever checked on the costs of the plastic parts of an LG1?

Oh yeah, called it....

I'd be really worried about bashing the exposed spindle on stuff. The whole idea is to make the pieces replaceable right?? That little red endcap would get taken off on the first ride through gnarly stuff too, especially with any bike with a wider BB.

did anybody say why its called the staccato 8? there's 9 pins and six cutouts. 8 different bodies? 8 colors?

Easton Flatboys are 570g

These are 450g. Yes, lighter. But not enough to call them insanely light.

However, they look slim, concave, light and with a big platform. That checks most of the boxes...

looks like a pedal to me. Probably some metal core with two plastic halves that bolt to the middle section. It's been done in BMX and it makes for super light and cheap pedals. The 8 probably refers to the replaceable pins. Each green section is a pedal half, the grey in the middle is the metal, axle coming out the back, and the red is probably a bolt/bearings.

Under 400g for the alum/ti one I believe? 450 otherwise. Piper can be more accurate than me on this end.
Cool pedals. Cool ideas. My guess is they will be uber expensive and under-supplied. The rebuild kits will be so pricey that people will consider other choices when that time comes. I would consider a used set ;) otherwise my MG-1's are crazy light, super grippy and run $30-50 brand new.

Odessey Trail Mix peds for me. $30 and they don't hold crud. Buy a new pair every 3 months(only out of boredom, it seems, as I've never trashed any bearings yet), enough colors to keep me happy and Great pin placement.

last i checked (today) we were selling them for 25$...

There are going to be several different versions, the lightest (Ti/Mag) being i think around 380g for the pair.

Also, the end cap sounds like it is going to be re-worked so there will be no worries of it popping off.

Just keep in mind these are 1st round protos that we are lucky enough to see and share. Production should be late fall this year.

Also, you cant see from the pictures but the platform actually has a dual concave shape to it (front/back AND side/side) which really lets the ball of your foot settle into it.

is there much of a bulge in the middle from the shaft? could ruin it for an otherwise amazing sounding pedal.

not that i expect it to effect grip much, but just being able to feel the little bump though your shoes sucks.

Nice.

Pedals really are one of the more personal parts on a bike.
The only part you don't sell with the rest of the bike come sale time.

I look forward to hearing of some ride-time reviews on these Pip3r.

LG1 plastics retail for the equivalent of 80 dollars over here - that's pretty expensive plastic . . .

No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No!
Don't ruin a potentially great design by making that mistake. DMRs have that "feature" and they are really uncomfortable because of it - the L-R concave sends my feet to sleep. Maybe that's just me but there's a reason that Easton Culleys are generally considered the greatest flat pedal so far built - it's all about the platform . . .

Tech question - does the plastic "cover" double up as the axial location on the pedal - cutting through the aluminium body and engaging the axle? If so - genius! Colin Chapman would be proud. :)
