Well guys things got worse for me last night and had to be admitted to a hospital up here in NJ and will be here for the next few days before they let me go back to SC. I woke up at 4:30am and could not breathe. The wife took me in and after a lot of Test I have a collapsed lung and 3 more broken ribs. Looks like I will be off the bike for a while now. The drugs are good and at least they have free wireless internet.

A special thanks goes out to all that helped me out after my wreck.

Cecil
Ouch, heal up dude.

On a side note...Sam didn't win? :panic:

'The event is well behind schedule after a series of crashes and rider evacuations, so the men are on course now.'

Congrats to Steve Smith and whomever won the chicks (I never see chick results anymore).

yup... my head got rocked

i hit the small sapling that was bent over the course in the "new" rock garden.. pretty much went staight on my head and remember nothing after that until in the truck with SKC.

got pretty lucky, just sore shoulder, sore head and what looks like a shark attack wound on my shin/calve that was stitched and then stapled shut in multiple layers it was so deep... ouchie

thanks to everyone that helped out, i remember nothing, but figured a bunch of you had something to do with me getting out of there

i'll be good to ride in 2 weeks thanks to everyone :beerjam:

on a more somber note... sparky (bansheerider) was still in the hospital and i tried to see him once they dischrged me... unfortunately it was past visiting hours and they would not allow me to see him... for those who do not know he had a bad fall and damaged a kidney, still not sure if they are gonna leave it in or take it out... bummed i could not see him to gove some words of encouragement

So I just watched the scene in Seasons where it shows Steve's mom shuttling him all day and how well she supports his riding. Pretty damn cool. I'm sure she feels this victory as much as he does. Does he have many sponsors yet? I notice his jersey is pretty blank. Also, what is he riding...cove?

Did I not just read that Tyler Moreland stepped away from Cove due to lack of support (financially?) from them. May be E-rumors? One things for sure. Steve's got an entire country behind him! Now that's sponsorship!

He's still riding a Cove frame, but he no longer receives financial support from them. He still has his other sponsors though as well as his product development gig with sram.

Dave - glad to hear you are OK!

:)

Wow - so you don't remember anything before the truck ride to the bottom?! Jesus... you were talking with me the whole time...

I was at the log-drop below the main rock garden with Kyle Hickey's dad when there was a huge gap in riders coming down. Mr. Hickey thought his son was next and that Kyle was the rider down, so I walked up with him to see what was going on. That was when I saw you sitting on the log at the bottom of the rock-slab / wall-ride from last year located above the main rock garden. You looked like you just landed after getting shot out of a cannon - super stunned and dazed. Mr. Vine Dine was on the radio trying to direct the EMT's where to go so that's when I ran under the gondola to flag them down. Your bro got there around the same time I did I think - he was pretty freaked, but said the same thing happened to him a year ago.

When the EMT's got there, the one with the shades and the med. pack put the neck collar on you and then directed me and another guy to start handing him gauze pads to stuff in your leg. Pretty gnarly. The course marshall said that you were really out of it after coming to and not answering the standard questions correctly. The EMT asked the same questions and after he found out how long you were unconscious, made the call for Med Vac / Life Flight. He said that there was something wrong with your left lung too - you were describing a "rattle" in that area. A bunch of other guys got together at that point to help with evac so we got you on the backboard, the EMT's strapped you in, and then we carried you up to the gondola.

The EMT's were thinking of using the gondola to get you down but the operator said that if the lift had a mechanical issue you would be f*****. Since the pick-up was already there, we slid you in and headed down.

The one thing that freaked me out was that you kept asking if you qualified... ...but you were in good spirits and busting jokes at that point. I still think they should offer I.V's filled with Vodka and Cranberry juice.

Family met up with the truck when we got to the bottom (I really thought your Mom was going to FREAK) and seemed to take it well. Being the rippers that you and your brother are, I guess she's seen you guys stack it a few times now and again...

I don't know who the other guys were that helped out - one was a big guy in a black shirt with a backpack I think - but again, thanks so much for helping a fellow rider!

Got released from the hospital about 3 hours ago. My left lung is doing much better now and has filled back up. Now have to make a 11 hour drive home. Not going to be fun. Here is a picture of my lower back. I bet is would have been much worse if I didn't have my Body armor on. Once again that to Matt Griffin for helping me out of the tree that caught me after falling 20+ feet down the rock cliff on the back side of the G Out turn. Hope to be back on the bike in 3+ weeks.

Wow - were you one of the guys Choppered out?

Glad to hear you are doing better as well. :)

A LOT of people got f'ed up on the race course this year. Last year it seemed that the guys dirt jumping on Dominion were the ones getting it bad... jeez.

I noticed that he asked about 5 times if he qualified when I was walking with the truck.
At least he remembered that he still wanted his backup decals.
Nice to meet you finally CK unfortunately during something that sucks that much. Still ned a pic of your bike since I never got to see it.

No I walked down the Mt after my crash in a lot of pain. Did know at the time my lung was deflating. I knew I had must of broken more ribs, but didn't think I was that bad. I then drove 2 hours back to Toms River NJ that day to be with my wife and son. Went to bed that night and around 4:30 am woke up in really bad pain and could not breathe. Went to the Hospital to get checked out and they said I had just got there in time because one of my ribs put a small hole in my left lung. It could have been way worse.

So where were they landing the heli's at? I kept seeing them circling but never saw one land.

Was the girl that crashed in AM women at the finish line was the same one that laned on her head in the upper rock garden?

I am just glad I didn't get a ride to the bottom in a truck this year. Much more fun keeping it in one peice. The only casuality I had was a trailer hub that exploded at 8am this morning about 20 minutes from home.
