Over there somewhere.
Fifth Place
Santiago Alvarado, 24, was killed as he fell through the ceiling of a bicycle shop he was burglarizing. Death was caused when the long flashlight he had placed in his mouth to keep his hands free rammed into the base of his skull as he hit the floor.

Similar story a few years back:

Guy trying to break and enter a glass warehouse (why?!?) from the roof. Fell through skylight. Falls onto panes of toughened glass standing on end in a rack. Lost the collection of soft dangly things in his pants in process.

Sued warehouse and won becasue the glass in the skylight wasn't safety glass and not up to bearing a persons weight.

Some of the litigation today is absolutely ridiculous. Why should we award some jackass money because he lost his family jewels trying to rob a place?

Only in america.

It's either crap or happens exactly like that a couple times of year...

I heard that story the first time in mid-90's while working at Bicycle Bob's in Santa Barbara - the story was about a shop in Ojai or Santa Ynez, depending on who was telling the tale.

Never saw any news article on it, which is surprising considering the size of the communities...

Might have to look that one up on Snopes?

Bodine sued for $8 million (in 1984 dollars, about $16 million today) and settled for the nuisance sum of $260,000 plus $1200/month for life, about the equivalent of a million dollars in conservatively-estimated 2006 present value.
