Faber vs Pulver

Damn good fight, it went all five rounds with lots of action. Its cage fighting for the :monkey: that don't follow it. There was a really good knock out in one of the earlier fights, guy went out cold and was sprawled out in the middle of the ring.

Faber looked great. I have seen him steamroll other fighters and know Pulver was going to be tough, but damn.

A hell of a lot better than that awful Elite XC crap on Saturday, that's for sure.

KIMBO!

There was one replay when Kimbo had landed a solid uppercut on James Thompson, which made his freakish looking cauliflower ear quiver like it was flying away.

Was dying to see a Jens victory tonight... He's my fav fighter of all time and the reason I love watching the featherweights. I am downloading the fight right now and hope it's as good as you say. I couldn't muster the discipline to avoid the spoilers.

On a side note, I can't believe Gina Carano hasn't been mentioned yet.

That crap on CBS was absolutely horrible on its own. Compare it to the WEC fights, it defies description. And Kimbo and his awesome power were a giant disappointment as well. How many times have I seen Thompson knocked out with one punch in Pride? I'm pretty sure I'd never seen him go to a second round. A normally skilled heavyweight in half ass shape would have knocked him out or submitted him at the end of that second round.

It was MMA Lite. Everyone of the fights I saw was stopped by the doctor. I was mildly amused hearing the crowd chant bull**** on network TV though.

The Kimbo fight reminded me of the old toughman competitions. Two big dudes just pathetically swinging away at each other but too tired to do any damage. Pretty sad for what was supposed to be a main event. More hype than anything.

My wife really enjoyed that fight.....She really likes watching the chick beat the hell out of each other.

That was the best fight of the night and doc stopped it, I thought it was BS too. I have to say, Kimbo is one large, mean looking, guy

i was hoping for pulver to win too, but he looked scared...he didn't capitalize on any opportunity to continue what he was doing. a couple of combinations looked like they really rocked faber but he just let him recover...it did look like he challenged him though, at least.

I think they were both a little surprised that they weren't knocking each other out. Also there were a couple of times that Pulver was going to follow up on an apparent rocked faber and all he got for his trouble was more of that vicious right hand.

Pulver got rocked often, but he recovers wicked fast. I was amazed at the overall conditioning bof both guys. At the end of 5 rounds, they could have gone at least 3 more without issue.

I'm sure a rematch is already in the works. Faber doesn't have much else to compare to and Pulver wants the title.

I taped the Elite XC and was blown away at how long it too to announce each fight. The whole "Elite Dancers" or whatever they were sucked as well. I skipped over 75% of the crap.

I'm not a fan of Joe Rogan, but at least he knows what the hell he's talking about.

Great fights last night for sure. I thought Faber had Pulver there in the second when he had him dazed and staggering around, but wow! Pulver's an animal with a rock solid jaw! It was interesting watching his facial expressions between rounds. It was like "WTF?!? What do I have to do to get anywhere with this guy?" Faber's speed and conditioning where clearly a huge factor. Great fight and I can't wait to see the rematch.

How about that Torres-Maeda fight? That was damn good too!

I take it titty twisters are not allowed?

Kimbo needs to train for a year or two before he fights again.

I swear I don't think Torres even weights 135. But those two really went after it. That stoppage made total sense as it was readily apparent he couldn't see out of his right eye at all. I'd definitely love to see a rematch of those two as well.

Kimbo is as good as he is going to get.
I pretty much agree. And more than anything I just don't think his conditioning will ever be good enough to make it past one round with any of the established heavyweights.

:stupid:

There aren't many good heavyweights, though. Even some of the light-heavy fighters can be slow as hell.

Anything is better than Tim Silvia.

BTW, not including Saturday night, I think Elite XC is a decent second option to UFC. I thought the Shamrock-Cung Le fight was one of the best I have ever seen, and one of the rare matches that lived up to the hype.

Yeah, Kimbo Slice is a huge joke, but I can appreciate how he is necessary for promotion, so as long as the undercard is decent, I can watch the match. I thought Smith-Lawler was a good fight until the eye poke, and I liked Gina Carano's fight as well.

There were too many heavyweights, though, which is always the worse class. Too much bulk means fatboys pushing each other, not wrestling or striking.

Actually, I hope a middleweight takes on Kimbo next (which is possible. You can be underweight for any weight class). Then you will see someone go full ninja on his thug ass.

Oh yeah.....most definately. I would wager that a good middleweight could take his butt down to the mat and put him to sleep. That wasn't a match....it was a freakshow. You'll never see Kimbo get better on the ground game....just not gonna happen. It looked like two aging heavyweights just throwing bombs. Kimbo was winded big time and probably could have been ripe for getting taken down at the beginning of the 2nd, but doofus couldn't see that and let Kinbo get in some consecutive shots.

Gina.......as much as I am completely in love with her, didn't even take the fight seriously. Only trained for 3 weeks prior and didn't even make weight for her class. Straight lefts and some kicks to the midsection....nothing impressive. I'd rather watch her pound on tiny chicks with the giant Q-Tip on Gladiators.

And that makes it all the worse. Though imagine Kimbo having to face Fedor.

Wonder what the result would have been if Fedor had Kimbo jammed up against the cage like Thompson did.

I enjoyed watching Randy Couture beat the piss out of Tim Silvia last time. I was hoping for a better showing by Brock Lesner in his big match, but he got caught. Again, most heavyweights are painful to watch.

hmmmm, interesting thought... Ken Florian vs. kimbo slice or better yet, Kaleb storm vs. kimbo... Kaleb could actually get a win. He's pretty good at running around the ring. He could run around the ring till kimbo passes out from trying to run after him and put on a toe hold or something.

I think Lesner will be okay. That wasn't a bad loss to a crappy opponent. Mir is a quality fighter and former champion. If it hadn't been for that motorcycle crash, I think he would have had a much different / successful career. Plus they are lining Mir up for a title shot against Noguiera after TUF 8.

Dana White said that BJ Penn would beat Kimbo. I'm not so sure about that but there a few middleweights that could probably do decent and definitely the light heavyweights in the UFC and WEC would leave him a mess. Kimbo versus Brian Stann?

Agreed. I think Lesner might turn out to be a force in that class with another year or so of training. I'm waiting to see how Brandon Vera does next weekend. He looks promising in the heavyweight class as well.

There are some good fights next weekend, too. I want to see Matt Hughes lose his ass and retire.

I admit I didn't watch it until it came to Spike. I followed the first season of TUF and it was awesome. I later found out my best friend is distant cousins with Chuck Liddell, who is one of my favorites based on his attitude.

What's crazy are all the guys that come out of this area. Randy started an awesome camp (Team Quest) out in Gresham. Nothing good has ever come out of Gresham, before. :D

I was aware of it and had seen it a couple of times and PRIDE was just getting on FOX Sports BUT TUF 1 was were I really got exposed. Dana White has been a genius in getting MMA in the "mainstream". The fight nights, big free fights and the whole WEC. He can't be happy about the damage that Saturday night crap did. It was all the talk on sports talk. The problem was that most folks didn't even know about the stuff on Sunday and think that Saturday was par for the course.

There was a funny write up on Yahoo about it last night and the fact that people who saw Saturday had no idea about Sunday. Also having a guy with a whopping 2 fights be the main event is just setting yourself up for a boat load of failure.

I still can't get over homeboys ear. I would get that taken care of, cut it off or something. Anything is better than that.

I like WEC, there certainly are some great talents there. Sort of a farm club for the UFC, I'm sure Danna knows what he is doing with Zuffa owning all 3 leagues. I don't like the ring, so I haven't watched too much Pride.

What CBS put out was two steps below pro wrestling.

dude...I snuck in here at work just to tell you that I went Sunday night! It was awesome! Three rows back from the floor. It's a different fight when you are actually there...to hear the punches and kicks connect...kinda weird not to hear the commentary that you do when you watch it on tv...some of the earlier fights that were not televised were pretty good, too! The fights in the crowd weren't bad either! :clapping:

Andre Arlovski????
I said "not many". Unlike the middleweight and light-heavy class were there are 30+ fighters.

I'm still waiting to see just how good "The Truth" is. He's looked good in a few fights so far, but hasn't faced too many dudes. Plus, Andre lost to Tim Silvia TWICE!
