all that aside....i don't think kyle's result was a good one at Ft William (i'm sure he would say the same) and it points to a problem i see in our system...."Top American" until we strive to be the best and not be complacent with Top American we will continue to have these types of results.....

Kyle is a good kid from a good family...he's a kid with lots of potential, but he is being tugged in to many directions with in the sport....unless he focuses on DH exclusively i would be surprised to see top 10 results from him...which is far below his potential.

i can't blame him for doing it part time though...he make more money doing the freeride/slopestyle gig without the stress of racing the clock.

EC, thanks so much for putting it in better words than I can. What you said is basicly my point with Strait. You are someone who knows exactly the REAL dedication to training that it takes to be even in the top 10 in Worlds. I don't think some people comprehend just what you yourself personally had to go through mentally and physically in your life and the sacrifices you made to your body and mind to get on the World Cup podiums you achieved.

I think the only way people can wrap their mind around that type of dedication and effort is if you or King or Rockwell were to post their training log for the 6-9 months that lead up to your top results on the Worlds level. Eat. Sleep. Train. Repeat.

And to the person who talked about Rennie's "training", someone needs to sit down with the guy and talk to him about his training regimen. I bet there might be 3 US riders that even come close to the time he puts in pre-season. He's told me the stuff the Australian team goes through, the testing and monitoring, etc a few years ago.

Fonzie's told me the work Hill puts in on a road bike and it's insane too. He pushes harder than just about anyone..and he's 5th on a World podium. :greedy:

however, part of this I think stems out of the fact that the only real automatic qualifiers were AF and last years Nats, so that means that 5 people were chosen based on someone's personal judgment (and far fewer of us know Fitzy than know Todd)... and anytime you have someone's personal opinion up for scrutiny, especially someone that you don't know, you're going to get criticism of that opinion.
Yayyy...a like mind with more tact. :D

No, it was Bravo Condoms. I couldn't believe how many stupid ass Condom jokes the MC was making every time he mentioned them.
Awkward moment of the event. Guys are tossing out t-shirts and tires and all sorts of schwag to the little kids at the Open and the MC grabs the mike and goes "$1000.00 goes the fast qualifier thanks to BRAVOOOO CONNDOMMMMSS!" There was this awkward silence and I looked at Swanguen (name drop) and whispered..."mommy, what's a condom?":rimshot:

it is a very big commitment...stik can attest to it as i trained with Leigh most of the time with the same coach...there were/are many different things we did....lots of swimming, weights and road rides early in the pre season....and tons of different types of intervals and plyo's as we got closer...

it was on average about 4 hours per day spent on specific training.
Eat. Sleep. Train. Repeat, that line really is fitting.

things are a bit different now though....courses are different and the type of training would be a bit different then as much road riding as we did i suspect

there also is less money for a rider who reaches the top level, which can be tough to get motivated for.

i'm sure those CTS trained guys are putting in some hard work..hopefully it will pay off...sounds like it already is for Gerrit.

Okay already, Gerritt probably deserves to go. However, if he had looked at the schedule and planned his early season racing around making the team, it wouldn't even have been an issue. Does that suck? Sure, oh well. As to all the other bubble riders who are on about them same level of some of the team members, this is how I see it. I would say there about 20 guys right now who are all at that same "right on the edge" kind of level. Brad, Ryan, Chris Heath, Sternberg, Leonard, Beytagh, Herndon, Keene, and lots more that you probably havent though of like Steve Wentz, Dave Camp, Matt Fisher, ect, all have the potential for success. If you put all these guys on the same course (and probably a bunch of others I haven't thought of) the finishing positions could likely shuffle infinitely.

If you want to make the worlds team you can either do your homework and work the system, or you can do something really big to outshine everyone else. Anyone who thinks they got snubbed should probably ask them self how much better they think they are than the guys that are going. Are you really going to get a result at worlds that will make the USA look any better than these guys can? Are you sure you are going to put down a better time than Kain or Lars? If you think so, congrats, because your self esteem is in good shape. I'm not seeing it.

All the racers who made the team are stoked for each other, all the ones who didn't are stoked for their buddies too. It's just a couple d-bags on here who are pissed. And this kind of attitude is what will hold this country back. It's crazy that you guys just get relentless in trying to prove that your "homeboy" form your local hill deserves more that anyone else. No one "deserves" anything.

And they're not getting anything. They have to pay their way, a lot of them will do it, and a few won't. They train hard for themselves, not to "get" some "hey, I'm a pro" handouts from people. None of the "actual" racers are asking for anything. They're earning it. Silently. But all the athletes are still happy to be a part of the fun. I'm sure there's a little personal disappointment here and there, but the real racers are stoked for each other.

Mellow out, and pick up an American flag for a change.

Just to "crossthread" a little bit,...Kyle Strait is going to be wearing a skin suit! That in itself is worth giving him the nomination.
