When I was a kid in the 80's there was not anything like dirt jumping, I rode bmx and raced at our local track on weekends, but didn't really learn to jump. I could do some flatland tricks. I started mountain biking in the early 90's and the bikes were tall, long and odd. I loved it anyway but for a different reason. I quit riding and started again in '02. Everything had changed, now the bikes were like I always had wanted them to be. I took up the sport again and made up for lost time going from XC to free riding, now just pretty much AM. Now I want to get into dirt jumping, but I am an old geezer, just turned 38. I need some inspiration from other old guys out there putting in time on the jumps. I have a lot to learn, but am leaving the jumps every day feeling beat down, but happier than I have from riding in a long time.

I'm 36 and been DJing for about a year total. Lots of biking before that but not so much jumping.

There's a 50+ guy named Howard who has been riding with us. He used to race BMX back in the day. He came through on a junky CC bike one day and saw our spot. He showed up a week later with a new Specialized P1. And he is getting his teen son into it too.

Howard can float the bigger jumps at our spot. It makes me happy to know I might be riding another 15 years or more.

OLD GUY:
it's all about riding a lot. 5 days a week for an hour is a lot better than 5 hours just on saturday as far as progression goes and getting that shreddin feelin back. even if sometimes you're just commuting or manualing neighborhood sidewalks. so when you do show up at the jumps you feel solid on your bike.

seems like some dudes that get back into it huck themselves on the weekend, then feel sketchy and say they don't "have balance like they used to." sure you do, you're just rusty because you haven't been on a bike all week like the young dudes have. they'd be just as sketchy if they only rode on weekends.

I'm 39, just recently got into DJ/park. I don't have any incredible pics, just this one of me learning to ride in the streetpark at Ray's. Moments later I did my first ever transfer over the spine.

Thanks, for all the pics, you guys are inspiring me. A ton of rippers on here in their 30's and 40's. Its making me hit the jumps harder. I am working on just letting go and going higher. I now know I have many years left in me to improve. Bad pic quality but I am now at least a foot higher off the lip than last week.
