Looks like the trails will be closed and heavily patrolled after today. There was a kid who crashed and Giantrider and myself came up on him and his buddies. The kid wasn't able to feel anything from his chest down after crashing and landing on his head. I stuck around until paramedics showed up and Giantrider stayed to help out since he knew what he was doing.

Rangers, paramedics, etc showed up in the middle of a trail. Looks like its all done. I would not ride up there unless you are cool with $200+ fines.

Hope the guy is alright.

Holy sh1t! thats pretty much what happened to my friend grande at cali. couldnt feel anything below his chest and he ended up being paralized from there down. If he's lucky he will regain movement, but in this kind of situation that is usualy doubtful. That is super sh1tty. At least it's a better reason to close the trails than just "bikes aren't allowed." these trails will be missed if they are truly getting shut down once and for all.

The riders name is Mike. I didn't catch his last name when he was talking to the paramedics. He was riding with a open face xc style helmet and he had a blue hardtail I think. Sorry I wasn't really paying much attention to that at the time. I really hope he's ok. He was with a group of 4-6 other people and it was there first run down for the day.

I'll definitely be throwing out some healing vibes.

Did you have to go out of your way to hop onto this trail, by any chance? Also, can you guess as to how old this kid was?

Thanks for giving everyone a heads up. As sad as it is, it's good to know that our community is still this connected.

Agreed, healing vibes to the guy. He said he was 23. It probably wasn't the trail you were thinking of, it was on one of the major arteries of the trails. He said he was from San Jose or Milpitas, I dont remember.

Thanks josh, your a good man,

no matter what that homo prettymike says about ya!!!!
:shakefist:

I think Giantrider (Todd) deserves all the credit. He got there and instantly took control of the situation. He knew what he was doing and was super helpful through everything. Those EMT skills rock. Good on you man.

I haven't read anything in the newspaper or anything about it yet.

And that really stinks, man. I certainly hope this guy Mike is okay. Prayer for healing out to him and his family.

Be careful out there, guys. Seriously.

Everyone thank Todd for being a Pro! He may have saved a life!

So yea these things always suck for everyone.I tried to find out if he was ok, but all that info is confidential.I didnt really do much but make sure he was stable, his friends did the best thing by leaving him put and telling him not to move.So everyone just be careful out there.

Dang, that's horrible. Healing vibes to the rider and medical bill bank account recovery vibes to him and his family!

I wish I had seen this post earlier though, I probably would have changed where I went riding on sunday...

Anyone want to PM me with the trail name? *EDIT* I take back what I said ealier about the trail getting torn down.

we all hate to see when stuff like this happens, but it does unfortunately
accidents occur even with the most skilled riders who know how to take a fall
it serves as grim reminder the life is short to respect the risks of what you are doing in the name of fun

hope things improve for the fallen brethren

I went for a mid day ride on Tues., and had a run-in with the man in blue (well..brown, actually). I was on a trail not too far from twin gates. I didn't get a ticket, but I did get a pretty good a$$ chewing. He didn't directly mention any specific incident, but he basically said that someone had gotten hurt really bad recently, and that was the reason that "were all going to be seeing alot more of each other in the future", and that next time I would get cited. He also said something about dangerous stuff in the trails getting removed and all the trails getting restored. They were in a work truck, so hopefully they weren't tearing stuff down already!

And it begins... Thanks for the heads up.

I think his name was actually Matt, he actually works for FOX clothing, and was on a borrowed Specialized Stumpjumper full sus. I don't know him well but he was up there with my friends and my roommate (the guys that were waiting with him on the trail waiting for paramedics)

Turns out he broke both his wrists and a bone in his neck. Originally they thought that his neck/back was worse, but when he got to the hospital and got it all checked out it looked better than it first appeared. He'll still be messed up for a while, but he's in good spirits.

My roommate was incredibly messed up for the next few days, he felt responsible for the crash. Everyone was really thankful for the help they got from other riders that day though, its hard to see a friend crash and they had no idea what to do. So thanks Todd and Josh, you have no idea how much you helped.

I'll see what other info I can get in the next few days.

Wow that is great news that it wasn't as bad as we all thought. Hope Matt heals up quick.

Your friends did everything right by not moving him and calling 911.

... and was on a borrowed Specialized Stumpjumper full sus...
I once took a co-worker to Mach 5 on Limeridge (cover of Hella Greasy 2), and he was also ona borrowed Spec Stumpy. He popped his collar and I ended up taking him to county, and carpooling with him for a few weeks... Good to hear the news about the rider.
