My buddies and I are going to North Star this July 4th and it's gonna be our first time in that bike park. For myself, I haven't done any lift-access bike parks; rather just the local SOCAL shuttle trails. The guys that I'm goin with have AM/Light FR bikes (ReignX's, Enduros).

Unfortunately, I can't decide which bike in my stable would be best for North Star?

Mountain Cycle San Andreas DNA (170mm 66RC2x Works, 180mm Swinger 4 way, HFX9's, 35 lbs)

Marin Quake (170mm 888RC Works, 175mm DHX 5.0, Hope Mono6, 42 lbs)

Mountain Cycle Shockwave 9.5 (200mm 888R Works, 241mm Romic, Gustav, 45 lbs)

tough call, thats quite an arsenal of gravity machines.
I'd go with the Shockwave if you want to hit the more gnar-gnar stuff like Karpiel and Dogbone.
If you are hitting up the flowier stuff, like Live Wire, the Marin would be tight.
The San Andreas is off the list for not having a chain retention system, otherwise it'd work too!

Another vote for the shockwave. Lifts are geneous. There are lots of rocks at N* so more suspension is nice if you don't want to get rattled appart by the end of the day. The runs are all pretty similarly timed, so you can go hit up the big DH trails if you're friends don't want to hit them and then just see them at the bottom. Other than flameout which isn't a very good trail, nothing really requires any pedaling.

How I wish I could take take both the Quake & Shockwave but we're carpooling cuz gas is just crazy expensive.

I guess the Shockwave would be my safer choice cuz it's my first time out there and I'd rather have the extra travel to bail me out of bad landings as well as compensate for my lack of skill. It might suffer on the corners compared to the Quake but would make up for it in the gnarly stuff. I just hope that there is enough gnarly stuff out there though.

That section is lovely! Is that in the upper part? What are the gnarly sections there?

Now I'm worried for my friends cuz some of them have Nixon 145mm forks!

That is part of Sticks and Stones on the upper half of the mountain. I don't seem to have any pics of the burlier rock gardens, but in addition to that trail you'll come to love Karpiel, Dogbone, Vietnam, etc.

Yea I know Casey. The 2 times I was in Tahoe last year I stayed with him. Met him through a gal a friend of mine knew in San Diego. Very cool kid. I got along with his roommate Ben too, although those 2 living together was kinda like the odd couple :D

put the fox shock from the Marin on the mountain cycle and go for it...
Unfortunately they're of different sizes so it won't fit. The Romic ain't that bad specially after Roger custom tuned it for my weight after it blew up on a jump.

I think thats why Alf is suggesting swapping.
The shorter shock put on the shockwave would lower and slacken the bike and it'd still get 8"

.

The Shockwave has a 9.5 x 3.0 shock while the Quake has an 8.5 x 2.5. The shortest that the Shockwave could run without any clearance issues would be 9.0 x 2.75 but that's gonna be too chopper city slack; I need a shorter AC height fork if I'm gonna shorten the shock or get the 8.0 inch travel race links.
