The NC highway patrol lost a trooper on June 17, 2008. He stopped a truck towing a trailer that was swerving all over the road. A struggle ensued and the trooper, David Shawn Blanton Jr., was fatally shot.

I got an email at work today about the trooper's infant child. The baby was born premature and was sent back to the NICU this week for complications and the outlook is bleak.

I just can't imagine what his wife is going through. He was 24 years old with only 2 years on the force and now his baby may not make it through the week. :(

Talk about the suck.

wtf??? I mean, really, there is a compassionate God, supposedly?

RIP, Trooper, and thanks to all those that go out everyday to protect and to serve.

Healing thoughts to the child and the family.

Yeah - that happened pretty close to where I live. The asshole straight up shot the trooper and then took his time getting everything back together and slowly pulled off the exit. Then they caught him somewhere at the bottom.

To top it off, the news kept showing his wife and brother at his funeral. His wife was sandwiched in between two other troopers and they were literally holding her up by her arm pits as he was being buried. It was one of the most painful things I've watched in awhile and I thought it was completely inappropriate of the news to keep showing her like that.

the suspect was caught with the help of some truckers who saw it happen and followed the dude until some deputies caught up w/ him. had the truckers not been there to witness or had it been another trooper who caught up with the dude i'm sure the suspect probably wouldn't be awaiting trial in jail :dead:

what the hell is wrong with people? Why do they think they have the right/privelege/what have you to take another person's life for no good reason?

My condolences to the fallen troopers family and fellow officers.

Manimal, look after yourself. It makes me sad to know that so many people have so little respect for people who are just doing their jobs, and want to keep a little order in the world.

wtf??? I mean, really, there is a compassionate God, supposedly?

I learned that there is no got when my brother died.

I was a die-hard christian before that.

I'm an athiest now.

I think there's no logical an all-caring compassionate god could put such innocent people through so much ****.

Rest in peace, trooper, and I really hope that his child makes it through.

No person should have to go through that much **** at all, nevermind alone.

**** man, the world is so ****ed up, I swear. I hate it all.

Thoughts and Prayers go out to his wife and their family.

What a waste of potential. My cousin is a NJ State Trooper - You never know who or what you are going to run into out there... thank God they caught that S.O.B.

With regards to his newborn son - say a prayer/send healing vibes/light a candle for the little guy and let's hope he pulls through.

Very sad.

Oh my gosh...how terrible. My thoughts are with his family.

And I'll echo others...take care of yourself out there Manimal. It really sucks that those who are out there protecting us fall victim to this type of stuff :(

thanks VB, from the statistics i read the other day 2008 is turning out to be one of the deadliest years in a while for LEO's.
We've lost several recently. One to a carload of illegal aliens he pulled over, one gave him a fake name, which turned up a hit. When he tried to arrest the suspect, it turned out to be a carload of illegal alien gang members; he was killed. Another was killed trying to arrest a simple bad check casher. The suspect turned out to have a gun in his waist band, when the suspects girlfriend attached the officer he shot the officer in the head. Both officers died because of interference from people they weren't trying to arrest. Both were young.

Manimal, Please be careful.
