I want to see parts you guys have made for your rigs, or modifications done requiring some fabrication and creativity. i.e. light weighting, reinforcement, custom components, revised purchased components (aesthetically and functionally), etc.

Moto foam doesn't count.

I bought some really sweet muffler bearings for my car yesterday, I'll post some pics after I get them installed.
I was having a hitch installed by my car mechanic last month, and my co-worker who previously sold cars for a living said "tell your mechanic to order new replacement muffler bearings since he'll be needing to move it when he installs your hitch." I really know nothing about cars at all, so I mentioned it my mechanic and he started laughing hysterically at me. :bonk:

On a related note, this is something I did the winter before last. I copied my LG1 backplate with carbon, and drilled it using a dremel. More work than the weight savings were worth, but it was a fun project. It lasted almost until my very last race of the year, but a rock finally ripped my taco off. No problems with its functionality, but it was a huge pain removing the hardware with a small wrench on the back of the backplate every time you needed to remove your crank.

my hardtale needed new drop outs so I got out the jig saw and got to work:

The custom drops give me a longer wheel base and better tire clearance. Keeps the bike nice and stable at speed.

My own ghetto version of a Heim 3-Guide made from stainless and a turned-down skateboard wheel:

Hand-flared 'speed holes':

Outboard-tapered roller so the chain stays put when backpedalling:

Next up will be my Poopercharger bash ring from a Lexan dinner plate. Where's my Dremel?

Home-made shock mount geometry adjuster for Devinci 8flat8. Steepens head angle from 64deg to 66deg. Raises bb about 3/4".

Here's a KHS I'm currently hacking up. I drew it up on CAD and then modified it to use a 8.75 x 2.75, lowered the BB and slackened the head tube to 66 degrees. I'm going to revalve the 5th Element to a pure shim stack. I plan on reinforce the shock mount next. Also looking for a cheap set of 165mm cranks if anyone has any laying around (shameless plug)

P.S. My place is a mess cause I just got back from my honeymoon :happydance:

drops the BB an inch and is almost unridable unless you drop the fork an inch also...

You're putting together a hacked-up/CAD-designed DH bike and you're apologizing for a messy place? Google: Thorsten durbahn

i always wondered why KHS designed the top tube like that.
Was it to teach them a lesson, so that everyone that decided to ride a KHS DH bike became infertile?
please enlighten me.

Custom decal work on my Sunday and also the ghetto mud flap in between the uprights for the rear triangle can be seen here too. Kinda cool as it extends down to lay over the DW link and keep the "bird's nest" from developing there.

I was wondering when somebody would actually do it. So, what's the new geometry and are you using the same shock? how much travel did you get out of it, post a picture of the complete bike to see it!

Ahh ghettoness!

Brake mount I made for my old old Stab, thats the one with the ghetto 7" from the 2" shock links!
Oh thats a Boxxer mount caliper on the rear, hence the ghetto adapter.

Floating brake mount I made for my newer Stab.

Ghetto light I made!

Nah, just the stock Vanilla DH with the remote reservoir, It was next on the list to be fettled, just before the bike got stolen.

Actually that picture was taken about a week before it got nicked!

Does Patineto still post on this forum? That guy had a plethora of crazy modifications... top crown above his stem, custom made chain idler for a high-ish pivot bike etc.

The bike is a little project we have with a couple friends. We tried to design a bike with the ultimate DH geo, that would be light and reliable.
The frame was built in TW. There are six like it. The name we have registered is Rage Bicycles but for the moment we have no firm plans to put it into any kind of production.
The bike in the pic is mine it weighs 18,4kg in that spec. 64° Head angle, 355mm BB, 210mm travel.... We are really happy with the way they ride and it's great riding something a little bit special!
Cheers

How's it ride? Kudos on experimenting, but with the crossed up configuration you have it should actually brake worse than stock with heavy brake-squat (usually feels like skipping). If you want to use that mounting point on the frame, you should drop the caliper mount below the axle, flipped 180 degrees from what you have. That will get you much closer to neutral braking.

Awesome work. So you drew it up in CAD and contracted the prototyping? Who did you use in TW? Do you mind PMing me the costs and contact info?
