D'oh. Foot in mouth.

It's only my jackass opinion anyway.
Sucking in my gut when I cruse past chicks really works my lower back.

Its been really, really great getting to know you...
The LE is the same engine as the regular R1, but the suspension is sick and the forged wheels are total bling. My bike has the same engine as the 98 R1, so it's not that much more to handle with the fuel injection and a few more horses. My buddy bought an 07 Liquid Silver R1 and it's a blast to ride.

EXACTLY what I was thinking. :D

A good friend had an R1 (not the special edition) and I logged about 50 miles on it one time because he got scared in the middle of a ride. My god that's a fast bike. You will be going 130 mph and think you're going 60...trust me when I say that no one needs that bike.

Reportedly the B-Last is the most reliable Buell made (which isn't saying a whole lot). It's a nifty little bike but even more of a "chick" bike than a Sporty. Buells are really slick machines though. In my mind they are the bikes that the Sportster should have been if it was allowed to evolve past the '60s. I lust for a 98 S1W or an 07 XB9R, but I'm absolutely positive it would be a love/hate relationship.

How in the eff is it a chick bike?

I like the specs... Belt Drive, 2 up, 70+mpg, under 5 grand brand new. Sure, it doesn't have the biggest engine in the world, but I don't need more than a 500 for just around town. I may ride it out 100 miles to my moms, or a little more than that to my good buddies who lives in the mountains. I think it would still be fun enough, and it's a pretty good upgrade from a 200cc scooter for not that much more money.

Blasts aren't bad, but that doesn't mean that they are great, either. A guy in my Army unit had one for a few months and said it was straight gutless. He got a "real" Buell a few months later.

If your were a buck-o-five, maybe. Just get a used SV650, or something.

I just went to a bunch of shops and sat on a bunch of bikes. I didn't like the SV650, too sportbike-y. Of all the ones I saw today (in my sort of price range) I liked an 06 Honda Shadow 1100. That thing is cool. Just over $7k brand new. I want it.

Mike,
at your size you'd look silly on a SV or any of the "Croth Rockets" (I know, I'm 6'3" too)
I had an SV650 and I looked like a circus bear on the mini bike. My knees were well past the spot they were supposed to be on the tank

Now I have a DRZ400SM and it's perfect for commuting around the city. Highway is "bear"able but not desireable. And I don't look like a complete ass
It's VERY comfortable seating position and can stop and turn on a dime.
if you think you'd like more power get a KTM supermoto

Just ride your bike. Pvssy. :D
I just road my bike around. It's a motorcycle with no engine, now I want a motorcycle with an engine.

From what I saw today, any kind of sport bike, or dual purpose, I'm not that interested in. I really am diggin' on that Shadow.

An 1100 is a big ass Hardley. When you take the rider safety course, they should have some cruiser type 250s. Cruisers have a very different feel and you should practice on the smaller bike first to make sure you like how it feels in the turns.

My brother in law has a Valkyrie and although it has a lot of power, the handles like a couch.

I looked at some 650 and 750s, but they are just too small (physically) for my build. I'm tall and lanky, not a good fit for most bikes.

I did find out that there is a place around that rents bikes for $125 a day, I think a friend and I are going to rent one of the shadow 750s and try it out. I figure it's worth sixty two dollars and fifty cents to find out if I like it!

I just went to another bike shop, and sat on a bunch more bikes. I really like the Boulevard M50, and they just so happen to have a used one. 2006, 8,000 miles, $5,000.

I don't know why everyone is so down on cruisers, I dig them.

I dig cruisers too, but I like to go fast and I like to take corners more. I will have a cruiser at some point, but I need newer sport bike and a dirt bike first.

It's no different than a beach cruiser. They are cool to ride around on, but there are funner bikes for singletrack.

All I want to do is ride around on it.

Anyone have any thoughts on buying a used bike from a dealer vs. new? The dealer has an 06 Boulevard M50 for $4,999 with 8,000 miles, and a brand new one for just over $7,000.

If I were to finance, financing a used bike sucks, hard to get under 12%. I wouldn't have to finance that much of it, and I have some credit card promotional 1.99% checks (yes I have read the fine print) to put toward it as well.

So basically, it comes down to used vs. new. Used has been checked out by the dealer, new tires, oil change and inspection. No warranty. New comes with one year manufacturers warrenty, less than one mile, and ... new! I've never had a new vehicle before.

What it comes down to is this:

Do you care if someone else has farted on the seat?

8000 miles should be nothing on a Suzuki. If my bike can go 80k with 50% of the time spent near redline, than 8k on a cruiser should not even be out of the breakin period.

Yeah, I'll go with that
If it had the power of my FZ1, I'd be all over it. Too bad Honda decided to treat it like a sex offender and cut the nutz off. It's all show and no go. But it does look good standing still.

On topic, though. I would say to stick with the M50. Kawi makes a nice bike, but all the reviews I've read say the M50 is "best in class" for the little big bike (800cc-1000cc). If you want a Vulcan, then step up to the 1200cc, but the Shadow is better above a liter IMO.

<edit> I like the V-stars, myself. But I am partial to Yamaha.

V-Star 1100 custom, very nice.

I looked at the V-Stars as well. Everything I have read says the M50 and the Vulcan are the best, as one eeks out the other in different things. The M50 is cheaper and gets better mileage, which is one reason I'm leaning toward it. Apparently the Vulcan is better for passengers. I am going to try and find a place that will let me ride them, but that will be kind of hard.

Cruiser Mag did a head to head on these bikes, and couldn't choose a winner

A good friend of mine bought a Vulcan 1200 and loves it. I've ridden it and it's nice. All stock, straight off the showroom floor goodness. Problem is I can't leave well enough alone :D

The nice thing about all jap cruisers is you can put 100k miles on them without issue. Change the oil every 5k (3k is way overkill) and use 92 octane gas and they run forever. So it just comes down to fit and finish.

VMAX---

Fast as f-ck in a nice upright seating position. Anything with as long a production life has to be good.
the V-Max was fast in the 80's. Not so much by todays standards. Also, the styling hasn't changed since the 80's either.
