I was talking to the Out of Bounds guy today, and he said that a lot of people want the lift served mountain biking park open. He said the best thing to do is to email and call Wintergreen and "complain." I guess not enough people were using it and they were not making any money. So if you guys could call and email them, they may open it again. For those of you who have not been to Wintergreen, it is a relativly small park with "shore type features" as well as steep and technical DH runs.

ya that is true, it is small, but I think they have 24 short runs. I know it isn't anything great, just a place pretty close that you can spend the day at our whatever. I am riding the 7 mile "downhill" tommorow. Its pretty lame but I have hit 35 mph on it so its fun if you just bomb down it.

I was there a while back and there were essentially 2 top to bottom trails left. I heard Mecca is completely dismantled now (a good thing as it was in POOR shape when I went exploring on that side) and those "trails" are pretty overgrown now. Wintergreen was a good time while it lasted but with SS only 45 min farther away (from the DC area), I just don't see the point.

Wintergreen is one of those places that if they put some effort into it, could be really good. The trails, when they were up and running, were a nice mix of beginner to advanced terrain with lots of options for linking stuff up. With some promotion and regular maitenence they could put themselves back on the map. It's not as tall as SS but the lift is quick and you can get tons of runs in per day.

If I were them, I would look around at some of the more successful resorts nearby, (SS, Wisp, Sevensprings) and see what they are doing to get people out every weekend.

1st thing I would is spend a few weeks grooming all the trails and then hold a super-d race from the top of the lift to the valley on Loggers Alley. That would kick much ass and would get a lot of riders (from DH to XC) out to check the rest of the place out. With Richmond so close, they could have a good base, if they would just put in some effort.

Matt what's the email, I'd like to send them my thoughts on the matter.

Thanks... JD

A better bet would be maintaining the trails already there. But hey, the WG staff and management no better, what do we know.
Apparently, not English ;)

Wintergreen used to be the shizz, then they started to suck. They have not figured out a way to pull themselves out of the suck, and if they do figure it out, it'll have to be pretty drastic

yeah, WG pretty dug the hole for a suck-tastic program all on there own, managment was way to ego filled, and think they can run the MTB program the same way they ran the winter program.. well, IMO, they could be the biggest bunch of jurks every winter, but demand for skiing will always be high, and people with no money, and the rich folk will still poor in to get in on the ever more shortning ski season, everyone wants to go skiing, not everyone can try Freeridding.. haha..I baraly pull it off and I've been ridding BMX/MTB since I was 6!

once they figure out they have to actually rely on the MTB community and their reputation, they might have something to offer..

I worked there, it seemed they didn't want anyone working for them who had to do anything with MTB, just wanted people to come ride... I dont know.. good luck WG.. they need to open the Western terriotry for sure.. or something.. longer trails will give them something more to offer..

bigger!! better!! actualy open!! hows that for reopening slogan.. HAHA

I have to agree with JD on this as well. It has been a couple of seasons since riding wintergreen but it definitely had potential. I think it could really benefit from a group going in and taking the time to groom it up and make sure the stunts are secure and sustainable. I have since moved back to michigan where a place like WG would be epic. Hopefully it can get some support and come back strong.

So far so good. Havent ridden much in the last two seasons due to lack of trails but have relocated to grand rapids and have been riding alot more. Had a couple very good seasons with quadcross and some motocross. Arena cross was great last season.

How have you been?

BTW totally missing the shed. The shed is better than any lift area within 4 hours of where is live. kind of sucks!!!lol

Still rocking the hardtail???
